If crappy games sell, why should developers make them any better?

I mean AC was ok, but not as good for the amount of copies sold.
i mean if AC sells in its current glitchy and repetative form, why should AC2 be any better in terms of gameplay.
hell they can just use the same gameplay in the modern work like a hitman ****game.
AC is not the only one, SPiderman 3 (insert others here)
madden is basically the same basic **** every year with minimal changes not worth the $60
so why should developers spend millions in making better mechanics and time making better gameplay when they can just sell rehashes at a good rate?

i wish consumers wernt so easily satisfied....

Very true. If I could get away with pooping in a box and selling it for $50, I'd do it too.

Pride? Someone like Shigsy or Kojima actually wants to make a good game more than profit.

I hear ya! :)

But for a poopy game to sell, they generally also have to be advertised alot.

Anyways, to answer your thread title.. alot of developers make games because it's their passion.

AC isn't a bad game, I enjoyed it. However, I must say, it's nowhere near "bad" quality either, and why shouldn't it sell? It's a new IP, which is great, and also it's a game that costed lots to make. Ubisoft deserves to make money back for a game that likely costed millions.

Also, if "crappy" games were just made, it's be the '80's era of gaming all over again and we'd have another market crash

If their publishers tell them to make crap, they will do it or get fired. These men are not above the ones that provide them their paycheck.

Konami wouldnt be anywhere without Kojima, the only other franchise they're known for thats important is Silent Hill, Kojima has his own productions thing anyway.

It's not so bleak, I was pretty critical of AC too but still liked it enough to see it through.

All you can hope is for the devs to not let the unfounded critical acclaim go to their heads and say "Hey if they liked 1mph horse rides they will love that AND 2 mph cart rides in the sequel." or maybe...

"Hey if they loved sitting on a bench and listening they will love the new leaning against a wall and looking casual."

or... "Running from the top of a mountian every level was so popular that now the Assassins abbey is on a glacier that sits atop the mountian."

The next one can go either way.

That's not even sort of true. Castlevania and DDRare two very important franchises that are still bringing in the big bucks for konami. That's not even addressing the brilliant games they produced in the past, that helped shape them into such a powerful company.

Good games still sell a hell of a lot better than bad games. You're not likely to have a huge runaway success making anything but a AAA game and there is quite a bit of correlation between review scores and sales.

Because reviewers are gonna boost a game's sales by giving it a good score. Someone who doesn't know crap about video games may pick up a Gamepro or EGM and read a bit of the reviews.

They shouldn't and they won't! Nintendo figured that out years ago and put it into consideration this gen with the wii. Either sell out, or don't sell at all like SEGA is the motto.
