Let me ask you guys this question. If all gaming were to go to a iPad-esque touch pad/virtual sick/buttons would you continue to play or would you quit and find a new hobby. Keep in mind, Im not talking about certain genres. Im talking about everything from Mario to Madden to CoD and Metal Gear to RPG's and MMO's!! Im also not talking about just playing games on a iPad, im talking about a control scheme while allowing you to still play on your HDTV/computer monitor.ShoTTyMcNaDeSAlready there, my friend. My 360 is a Netflix and media streaming box, and my iPhone and iPad are what I primarily play games on. It's not so bad, you know. You can play most games on your HDTV through your iDevice. It's pretty great.

I play a game on my iPad called Modern Combat 3 and I can say to all of the doubters out there, playing this game is proof that a game like CoD or BF will work just fine with virtual controls.

ShoTTyMcNaDeSTech moves quick. It's amazing how small and powerful we can make things now. Expect that trend to continue.
Damn it, musicalmac is already in here spreading propaganda. lol :PStevo_the_gamerLike I'd try and slip in some subliminal buy a mac messaging. That's the most apple rules outrageous thing I've ever seen go apple.
Smart phone gaming is the future, console and PC gaming will die in next few years
You don't want to end up like your pathetic lazy loser father/grampa who didn't learn how to use computer and is still living in the past watching VHS tapes, you shouln't do what you enjoy just go along with masses
I would probably get into whatever new touch-based/motion-based tech takes over and completely dominates how games are played in the future.
But, I'm still definitely holding onto to all my old stuff, that I play with regular control pads. That stuff will always have a place in my heart and hands, as far as just having fun playing games the "old fashioned" way. That can never be replaced for me.
I already spend a lot of time gaming on my iPad so no I wouldn't look for another hobby. But I don't want that scenario to happen and it wont anyway.tomarlynHow can you be so sure? I mean with MS launching Kinect a few years back, we were shown that controller free gaming is very viable. Now, that being said, it still has not been fully introduced into the major genres like sports, shooters and action or adventure type games. That is only a matter of time. I see no reason why CoD for example cant be done on Kinect this next generation through the use of both hand and audible gestures. The same goes for Madden. For example, in CoD, you can verbally tell your on screen character to crouch or prone. You can put a leg forward of back to run or walk. you can either verbally or motion to reload your gun or use a knife and obviously you can use a throwing motion to launch a grenade! It can be done. The question is whether the whole lot of us can get past the uncomfortable feeling of making motion or talking to your TV while others look on? I also see even less of a reason why virtual buttons and control sticks wont be the wave of the future.

Even Nintendo is going back to a more conventional means of control. Kinect is a flash in the pan, its cool in some ways and terrible in many others. Also, dudebro's would rather be seen dead than pew pew pew their way through COD.

And yet you still have companies like Activision refusing Call of Duty unless a more 'suitable' (in their thoughts) controller is available. No reason why the two can't co-exist.
I would definitely consider stopping or at least I would cut back a LOT on my gaming if that were to happen. I prefer when I can sit in the dark at night and just immerse myself in a game.
lol, hundreds of thousands of games, hundreds of thousands of iOS device sales, but it's not happening. Your rock sounds cozy. :>won't happen so I dont need to waste time thinking about what I'd do if it did.

I wouldn't quit, I would just continue to use my old stuff. Touch based gaming is too imprecise for my tastes. Plus there will always be PC gaming. As long as there are PCs out there somebody will be making games for them. That's where I'll be.
I love my Iphone, but I haven't played a game on it yet that has made me think that it isn't anything more than a shallow diversion compared to my PC games. For that matter it doesn't even hold up to any of my favorite console experiences.
Depends on how well it works. If the controls are comfortable and the games are still great, then I'll keep buying new games. If not, I'll resort to modding old ones to keep the hobby going.
I could see andriod devices being a means for gaming in the future that replaces my PC. But, apple products will never be capable without being a glorified shell with microsoft nougat filling.
Eh, Call me when tablets can output good enough picture, and complex games without melting down due to heat, or go black due to thier battery getting sapped.
Ive seen too many technical "marvels" herald to change gaming, or the way people do different things, so many times now that Ive found that ONLY the cheapest and most reliable tend to be the norm, as of now? Tablets are neither.
If the scenario were to happen tho? Well, I would wait and see how much of a hit the gameplay takes in that transision, if nothing at all, then I would be fine with it, if the hit is noticible, then Id lay the hobby to rest. (Or rather, play my halfinsane backlog on the consoles and PC I own). I care too much for gaming to be content with it taking steps backwards, instead of moving farwards.

A large, powerful and responsive touch screne I can hold in my lap to play RTSs on? Yes please.
I would play older games on my PC. And complain about the casualisation and bastardisation of my hobby.
Assuming its forced Touchscreen only controls and I'm stuck playing games designed for a gamepad with them and gimped tablet games yes I probably quit at that point. If they had gamepad support then its just like playing on a console once you hook it up to an hdtv and there's not way there not going to include that i mean they already have the support and 3rd party accessories that do that. What worries me is they probably won't have m/kb support so assuming this scenario of only one form of gaming happens I'd rather cloud services like onlive take over with that you can play on all your devices and with gamepad and mouse/keyboard.

For sure, if it slides well and immerses the player more into the action, yeah. Evolution, it's time to learn a new set of skills, caveman tap on buttons is what they will say twenty years from now. The less newton force you exert to command the flashing photons the more your brain will eat it up. My two cents..
