Have you ever thought that perhaps userbase isn't that crucial to a games success? Personally, I think a consoles game library holds as much, if not more importance. As some people have already pointed out, at the time of release Gears had little competition. It was like walking into an ice cream store and having to decide between vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. Say Gears is strawberry. As more games, or flavours, are made available, naturally the strawberry's sales will slowly decrease.

Now compare this your example, GT4. When GT4 was released, not only was there vanilla, chocolate and strawberry to choose from - there was banana, caramel, mango, lemon, sherbert, rainbow etc. See my point?

Good then MGS4 should be right down your ally as far as gameplay goes. If you like RE4, GRAW and FPS's (shooters in general) then you should enjoy MGS4 :).

It's kind of someone hating the RE series before RE4 was made. Now almost everyone loves the RE4 and are anticipating RE5.

I'm glad Konami is making a huge step changing the way you play the game and not just adding small improvements like most sequels do now-a-days. MGS4 should be more accessible to shooter fans and casuals.

There were 100 million PS2's when that game was released. There are only 8 million PS3's now. If 3/4ths of all PS3 owners bought GT5 (which won't happen) it still won't match Gears of War.

Are you people honestly that thick? GT3 sold 12-14 million copies when PS2 was nowhere near the 100 million userbase. And yet you base it on GT4 when you know that sequels almost always sell less due to the lessening of shock value. AndI could use the, "oh well the PS2 has a huge userbase so that game didn't push systems" on every single PS2 game...

Gran Turismo is one of the best selling console games, ever. Please don't try to deny this because "oh only 8 million on such a large userbase" because you have no idea what you are talking about.

And I hope you all know GeOW 2 isn't a system seller. It's called a sequel. This was the 360's best year for shooters and the system had a price drop, and the holidays are over. Most of the people who want to play shooters on a 360 already own one now, and they arnt going to buy a 2nd just to get GeOW 2. That doesn't make sense.

The first Gears was a system seller, the 2nd one will push few to none. Common sense.

GT5 will outsell GeOW2 in the longrun. If you haven't noticed,the PS3's userbase is growing pretty steadily. 3/4 of all current PS3 owners getting a copy of GT5 when it's released isnt too far off. The Gran Turismo name is huge and GT5 looks great.

The only game you need to play in 2008 is Metal Gear Solid 4.

PS3 lineup, while good, doesn't overly impress me. All the games many list can be equalled by something on the 360 anyways, generally. I don't think anything they have will bring the masses over to it by any means.bretthorror

I don't know how much the casual fan is going to latch onto GT when it's not on the top selling system. Sure, it will sell great, but I would think Forza 2 would be enough for most. I don't think those two games eclipse the best 360 games out there. If I have a choice between Gears of War and MGS, I'd take Gears and it wouldn't even be close. Basically, I don't think their lineup will sell systems. But, I do think more will sell as the price drops and everyone seems to own 2-3 consoles nowadays. I probably will end up getting a PS3 when they release a smaller version.

The bottom line is, yes so far sony does have the most impressive 2008 line up out of the big three.. Ill even admit that as both a PS3 and 360 fan i think the 360 is the better console but to be perfectly honest.. Not ONE 360 exclusive in 2008 impresses me.. With that said, I do however think that if MS would announce Gears 2 for 2008 it would be huge enough to shadow ALL of PS3s 2008 line up.. Dont get me wrong, MGS4, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Socom will be Great but Gears 2 would just be on a totally different level, its the type of game that just that one game alone would overshadow all of PS3s exclusive.

Infact im going to go out on a limb and say Gears 2 would break Halo 3's record with no problem.. When I play Xbox live and even when I play Halo 3, i hear a lot of people on there talk about how they cant wait until Gears 2, The bottom line is.. If MS can pull off Gears 2 in 2008, i honestly dont think sony could do anything to combat the hype and publicity that game would get.. But on the same token, if MS doesnt announce Gears 2 or something with equal greatness for 2008, then they are in a world of trouble becasue so far.. PS3s 2008 line up destroys the 360s 2008 line up

The world isn't just you sweetheart. Gaming forums represent one of the smallest demographics in the gaming market. Fact is, Gran Turismo sells like a new pokemon game -- alot. It's a very popular genre and GT is the most popular in it.

GT 5 bleh, Burnout is the best racing game as far as I am concerned. I doubt I will even rent GT5 when I get a ps3, but I will be renting and beating MGS4, DMC4 and others.

I think Gears 2 has a chance of selling as well as halo 3.

I think it would be better if someone listed the cool games coming in 2008 for both systems.

The bottom line is, yes so far sony does have the most impressive 2008 line up out of the big three.. Do you even know why gears of war and halo are so impressive? because they have nothing else on the 360 to be compared to. so when a blockbuster game finally comes out, MS hinges on having their sequels do just as well...and they do do well, because there is nothing else to look forward to. Sony on the other hand has been great at finding diversity in their gaming division. not only to you have great racers like motorstorm and GT5, action games like uncharted, shooters like Resistance, sneaking games like MGS, but they also find new ways to improve their technology, like with the Eye of Judgement. While not a mainstream title, it is a lot of fun and VERY innovative, i've never had so much fun with a deck of cards. So yes, Gears of War and Halo are huge franchises for MS, but now with Halo over, they will need to step it up and find new and exciting games, or they will find their user fanbase getting bored.

I find it funny that you mention these "diverse games" when NONE of these games actually SELL on the PS3. Assasins Creed ( A NON SHOOTING GAME) sold nearly 1 million copies in one month on the 360. How'd the PS3 version do? I won't get into the specifics of other titles because the 360 simply sh!ts on the PS3 in that regard. The Fact is noone seems to be purchasing games for the PS3 other than bluray movies. And don't get me started on games lineups..

PDZ, Kameo, PGR 1/2, Dead Rising, Gears, Mass Effect, Forza 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Viva Pinata.. The 360 has about as much (if not more) diversity than the PS3.

Hmm, well gran Turismo is a huge and well known franchise, with wide appeal as well. The series has sold over 40 million copies, with the last one selling close to 10 million. Gears, while it has sold a lot, it's not at the top of the sales charts anymore, so the possibility of it selling over a few hundred thousand copies next year are unlikely, as it fades out of the spot light. Unless by some magic reason, everyone decides to pick it up, selling 200,000 copies a month, it's not going to got to 10 million.

Gears doesn't have the class, or originality, or sheer dominace in its genre that Gran Turismo has had.

People today are comparing Forza 2, a new Xbox 360 game, to Gran Turismo 4 a 2 or 3 year old PS2 game.

If that can't leap ahead of a PS2 game, than i'm guessing only it sequel can.

Gears was an 8.5 at best not this god sent 9.6 game that everyone bought into. I beat it and then put it down 3 weeks later and wasnt till about a month ago that I playd it again. Sure I would give Gears2 a try but its just not my cup of tea.Killfox

What makes you think a rushed sequal on a console that appears to be relying exclusively on rehashes and rushed sequals will kill the PS3 in a good game year, when the original and graphically impressive Gears 1 couldn't kill the PS3 in a no game year?
