Why the fuzzy heck junk hasn't there been a sequel to Shenmue made, yet? It's obvious that this series has HUGE, and I mean FRICKIN' MONSTER MANDINGO HUGE potential! Think of the action on next-gen system! The sights, the sounds, the interaction! Shenmue would own on any next-gen system!MantiCore2K8
Excuse me, do you know where I could find some sailors?
Hey do you know the four Wude?
Oh and because Shenmue 1 and 2 sold like crap, SEGA's reluctant to get burned a third time.
IMO, the series wasn't that great. It had it's moments, and there were some times where it was really good, but overall it was barely above average. Besides, it didn't exactly sell too well (at least in the US), what reason would Sega have to make a third one?
It's highly unlikely to say the least that there will ever be a Shenmue III. Shenmue was SEGA's worst game commercial failure in their history x2. Why on their right minds would they make a sequel to their worst failure ever, and that it would require previous playing of games that hardly anybody bought in the first place. Because despite popular belief, Shenmue following is small, hence the games being the colossal commercial failures that they were.
I don't think SEGA will ever spend $70 million on another project, Shenmue or other, like ever.
Shenmue was really great, and I consider it an adventure game. Sure, it has it's awkward factors, but what adventure game doesn't? Even the top ones like Grim Fandango have plain awkward puzzle designs and other questionable design decisions.
The thing is, Yu Suzuki had a vision about how the game should be played, and obviously that vision crashed with the mayority of gamers that just wanted to get through the game and carry on the storyline. Of course it wouldn't had hurt for him to be more flexible in that aspect, but still the game is so immersive and filled with lots of things to do. Plus Shenmue I&II along with SEGAGAGA are SEGA fan-service heaven games.
There is already a petition (which i've signed some time ago). Why not start an online petition, that'll be just as effective.
Anyway, isn't Shenmue the game where you have to make appointments to see people, then run around splashing in puddles until the appointed time?
chutup
But i highly doubt there'll be another Shenmue game.
