Diablo 3 got away with it because its Diablo, arguably the biggest PC franchise of all time and it was always an online game anyway, the only time i played D2 offline was to use a trainer and try out builds.
other games will not get away with it, there is a reason Ubisoft took away the DRM. because it didnt help sales and only increased piracy.
If its online game like diablo 3 strict online DRM is only good thing since less cheaters
Zurrur
but cheating was a part of Diablo 2, everyone had a map hack or a bot running baal/chaos sanc runs (which helped low levels to lvl faster/get gear)
isn't diablo a online game anyways? so what would be the point of playing offline even if u could? IDK never played it, the gameplay dont look fun to me.Diablo 3 got away with it because its Diablo, arguably the biggest PC franchise of all time and it was always an online game anyway, the only time i played D2 offline was to use a trainer and try out builds.

Diablo 1/2 could be played offline, but most people played it online anyway, since you couldnt bring your single player character online, so it was a waste of time playing offline.
I did not but Diablo 3 (and never will) because of the online only gameplay
And will probably never buy any such game ever
I would rather quit gaming than become the puppet of any company
Sure. The inconvienence od always online DRM isn't a huge deal breaker for me. Especially since there would still be many games without such DRM to play on the rare ocassion when I'm offline.
I would like however for developers to release patches that remove that DRM few years after the game's premiere.
Some games do. Diablo III benefits from it. For others there's no need, but it might help calm the publishers' paranoia.why SP needs this DRM ?
badtaker
It would be nice if such DRM would give something back. Anno 2070 is such case. Yeah..online DRM sucks in it, but the devs have integrated online so much into the game that it actually enchances the experience immensely, which makes the DRM easier to swallow.
Except Diablo 3 has a ton of players who use bots.If its online game like diablo 3 strict online DRM is only good thing since less cheaters

Diablo 3 benefited from the series being popular and being made by Blizzard...Sure, but it also benefited from being constantly onlineDMR is BS, I'm happy I don't have to deal with it.The_RedLionlol every single console is just a big DRM platform.
No,to me,AO-DRM is the exact same thing as not having the game at all...
Makes no difference to me,I'll never support that crap...
Also, when I buy a game,I expect to be able to play it whenever I want, with AO-DRM,servers will get shut down sooner or later, usually 3-6 years,I'd say,and pubs aren't legally bound to release an off-line fix. They can just kill the game whenever they want...

Exactly,D3 is nearly an MMO,also,Blizzard can do whatever they want to their games, and lots of people will still buy,due to their reputation among the PC community...
Anyone other than Blizzard has no chance,AO-DRM games either flop at sales(AC2,HAWX2,C&C4),or the DRM is removed after public backlashes(Brotherhood,From Dust)...
Yes. I have an extremely stable internet connection and I have a 2.5mb/s download speed. It took me only a few hours to download even the largest Steam games, some only took 30-45 mins. My mum hardly uses the internet so its pretty much just me.
I only play games when I have Xfire running and counting my hours so in a way.. I only play games online anyways, even SP games for DEM HOURS.
So playing as I usally do + more AAA exclusives for the best platform? please please please

I dont understand pc gamers sometimes... The biggest pc games atm are online only (LOL, WOW D3) yet they wont accept it.SamiRDuran
SP=/=MP
I rarely play MP games, give me one reason why I should be on-line to play my SP game?
I want to enjoy my games, not worry about Internet drop-outs,sever issues, and eventual sever shutdown, that permanently disables your game, the one you paid for.As I said, pubs aren't legally bound to release off-line fixes, for them, pulling the plug is by far the easiest solution...
lol every single console is just a big DRM platform.SamiRDuranNo, it's a system of hardware that's designed to process specific hardware. Not prevent you from playing games when a company sees that you're actively visible and constantly handshaking their servers.
Diablo 3 benefited from the series being popular and being made by Blizzard...Sure, but it also benefited from being constantly onlineSwings both ways really, it's arguable it isn't and it arguable it is. As far as I'm concerned it nuked my enthusiasm, but for most people interested in Diablo that didn't seem to be an issue. What is telling is the prevalent issues and the long run.[QUOTE="Jebus213"][QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]Some games do. Diablo III benefits from it. No. My work takes me overseas and whatnot, where Internet is not a given. Would hate not being able to play.
6 million people bought Diablo 3, which makes this poll rather obsolete
The gamers have spoken, they have decided to become slaves of the game companies as long as they provide good games
Soon Blizzard will ask gamers to stand on one foot, give them your women and children and play online only sitting in a torture chair and i am sure Diablo 4 sales will go to 8-10 million
Personally i will never touch Diablo again until they offer offline gaming
Blizzard and its games are like non existent for me right now

Unfortunatly its where all games are going to go from here on in..Its a sad trend in the pc erra we are in..Thats how these companies are stopping pirating..Thats the biggest thing i think as of right now..Until pirates figure out a way to break them..Its what its coming down to..It will happen pirates will break them..It might take awhile..How ever until that happens blizzard wins the battle..So right now bliz thinks they won the pirating war..Hate it really..Also hate how short d3 is compared to d2..The items are flat and boring..Game becomes boring later on..Its nothing like d1 and 2 where..Here comes the flames an jimmy crack corn an i dont care..Its my opinion..

How? It would have had an always online mp feature regardless of its wretched DRM. Kitablo3 the Auction House Simulator. I'd rather have been able to 'exploit' and actually play the game, since they did the balancing so cheaply, than have some stupid anti-cheat bs in a game where there is no real competition in the first place. Blizzard even made sure that it was known that it wasn't a competitive game. Screw anti-cheat in casual games... funny that SC2 which needs (and has) anti-cheating components is moddable, yet that piece of crap Diablo isn't.
@Loosey, name sold the game, they didn't speak in favor of the onerous protection methods.

The fact that it had DRM decreased pirated versions. And that is what all companies should do I suppose, if they can't trust players to even buy their games, there has to be a penalty...Please Log In to post.
