Then why is it that so many games are trying to emulate it??? I see that Lost Planet 2 trailer from yesterdaylooked exactly like the Killzone 2 trailer from a year and a half ago, and that 2033 game looks like it was built with the same engine as Killzone 2 used. There were also another game from a GI article that looked like a bogus Killzone 2 with a lot of tropical colors. All I am saying isthat people should stopwith the calling Killzone 2 "bland" and "generic", because it is indeedthe flagship title this gen for realism.

Wat?

It is obvious that you have not played Metro 2033... If you have you would know that it looks at least 123489072390457890 times better then Killzone 2.

People didn't think KZ2 was unique because it felt like Call of Duty with sluggish controls and a cover system Ironically, Modern Warfare 2 feels even less unique, because it doesn't even have different controls or a cool cover system. But it's not an exclusive so people don't care :P

KZ2 isn't any more generic than all the stupid military shooters that come out every year, it's just how lems damage control not being able to play it. I'm not playing it anymore, but I sunk tons of hrs into the online. It's like a grittier TF2 with bigger maps. The campaign was awesome too, every FPS since that lacks a cover system feels incomplete in some way. Just my $.02, it's one of the more popular games to hate in SW, but it certainly doesn't deserve it.

Hmm, what was 'like Call of Duty' about it except that you shoot people in both games? KZ2 is set on a totally different planet, has a cover system, has class-based multiplayer, slower movement, totally different hit detection, it takes more bullets to kill people, the guns are different, the environments are different, one level actually uses the environment to change the dynamic of the whole game (the wind on the train level that affected grenades etc)... I could go on. I don't see any similarities between the two except that they are both shooters.

lol, then i guess Killzone 2 was a copy of call of duty? Because the multiplayer is similar, gameplay is similar, and has many scripted events like it.............oh, and every other shooter is a copy of the one before it i suppose?

They were on a different planet. Who knows if flowers exist?? As for the rainbows.. you have a point. Except well in the levels it was either raining. or it wasnt. No stopping of the rain during a level.

Soliders could crush flowers beneath their combat boots while a rainbow appears behind them as the sun reflects off of their enemy's blood.

the only unique redeeming factor that I saw in kz 2 was the streamline objective shifts in warzone matches.

other than that it was a solid, run-of the mill futuristic shooter with satisfying gunplay and pretty graphics.

No, it isn't. Even the iron sights use a totally different button and they are toggled, not held, and the most common thing mentioned about the game is how it DOESN'T control like COD, in fact that's why it turned so many people off initially. The weapons were similar? Why, because they had rifles, shotguns, pistols, SMGs? Sure, that goes for 90% of shooters out there, and if you want to go that route, then COD4 copied wholesale from Battlefield 2. COD doesn't have a boltgun, a chain lightning gun, or a minigun, for starters. Perfectly linear, scripted? Again, that covers most shooters out there, including such greats as FEAR and Half Life 2. Evil bad guys and tough good guys?!? That's just reaching, since that covers, again, at least 90% of shooters out there. Which ones include morally ambiguous bad guys and wimpy good guys? The multiplayer, because it has classes and objectives, plays nothing like COD, and the campaign, because of the cover system, enemy AI, hit detection and control scheme, plays nothing like COD either.

Killzone 2's campaign was very good but its the multiplayer where it shines. I played CoD4 online a lot then moved over to Killzone 2, both excellent online shoters.

It is quite unique you use motion control to set bombs and open valves. You have a cover mechanism you have amazing graphics and has a unique control 'feel' to it.

1. Tacked on motion control is not that rare.

2. I agree with the cover mechanism.

3. Lots of games have amazing graphics.

4. I find that most major FPS have a certain "feel" to the way they control.

Killzone 2 is one of the best FPS this gen, but I do think that people try a little too hard to prove that it's unique instead of simply arguing that it hits at the rights notes for being a great FPS.

LOL. Do you really think the developers couldn't have made the game colorful if they wanted to?

It's pretty freaking obvious that the color scheme was used to create a certain atmosphere.

The whole "it's grey, it sucks" talking point is one of the most facepalmworthy in SW IMO. Games should have whatever color scheme fulfills the vision of the makers or is appropriate.

I wouldn't describe it as "golden" exactly, but you bring upa good point.

There ARE other colors besides grey and brown. Just because thecolors are not bright primary colors doesn't mean there is only grey and brown.

Every game accused for being just "grey and brown" actually has alot more colors then grey and brown. The grey and brown talking point is just the usual SW hyperbole.

Yeah, the OP fails pretty hard. Saying that a game with tropical colors is trying to emulate Killzone 2 is stretching pretty damn hard.

I guess you either like Killzone or you don't. I personally love it. It gets a reputation for just being gray, brown, and black, and I see the reasoning, but there are colors, they're just very subtle. There are some parts in the Killzone 2 campaign that look jaw-dropping. In chapter 3, when Garza tells you to drop down and fight those Helghast across the street, when you go downstair through the hallway and the light shines through the door, it's crazy good.

lol, then i guess Killzone 2 was a copy of call of duty? Because the multiplayer is similar, gameplay is similar, and has many scripted events like it.............oh, and every other shooter is a copy of the one before it i suppose? navyguy21

There's about as much simelarity betwen CoD and KZ2 as there is betwen Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3.

[QUOTE="Infinite_Access"]

[QUOTE="dragonfly110"]

so a game having good graphics+forgetting that they can change the background design from Grayscale to RGBY automatically makes them copies of KZ2?

Yandere

so you wanted pink flowers and rainbows in a gritty war game??

Soliders could crush flowers beneath their combat boots while a rainbow appears behind them as the sun reflects off of their enemy's blood.

. . .while (These are a few of) My Favorite Things is sung in the background. Epic.
