I've noticed that there has been some talks about Konami reviving the Silent Hill IP and I have absolutely no faith in them cuz they managed to get the project lead for the Sega Genesis' Contra: Hard Corps (as in... arguably the best Contra game of all time) to lead the development of Contra: Rogue Corps, and we all know how well that turned out.

I think it's safe to say that we're all just waiting for Konami to die, so... yeah. If or when that ever happens, who do you think are the ideal owners of Konami's IPs?

To start off the thread, I guess i should post my opinion on which IPs should be owned by what company

DanceDance Revolution/Dancing Stage - Bandai Namco Entertainment

Probably the most logical change in ownership IMO. While arcades aren't exactly as widespread as they were in the 90s, Bandai Namco pretty much owns the arcade market in the Americas (unsure about Europe) with games like Mario Kart: Arcade GP, Star Wars: Battle Pod and the appropriately named World's Largest Pac-Man. They have also brought in pre-release versions of Tekken 7 to select Dave and Busters locations during the development of that game. Assuming that the development of a new DDR cabinet is done internally by Bandai Namco Studios, Inc., I can definitely see BNSI being a valid successor to Bemani. I'd ask for Bamco to also own Castlevania, but the only thing worthwhile would honestly be the Castlevania/DDR crossover songs. If anything, 505 Games is probably the best owner for Castlevania

Zone of the Enders - Kojima Productions

Yeah, I know the obvious thing for Kojima to own would be Metal Gear, though I am under the impression that he wants to work on things other than Metal Gear, and Death Stranding shows. ZotE 3 seems like something Kojima will likely look into in a post-Konami world, provided that he has the intellectual property rights.

Silent Hill - Capcom

Probably a controversial opinion, though given the recent Resident Evil games, I can definitely see Silent Hill being rebooted as part of the RE universe, and probably find a way to make it work. At the very least, Pyramid Head in the Resident Evil engine would definitely be well worth it.

I hope that not only do Konami survive but thrive, as it would make a LOT of people on here very salty lol.

  • Many of Konami franchise is closely linked to Playstation so MGS and Silent hill should be locked in Sony vault of never will mention franchises again and its dead for sure.
  • Contra goes to Activision for it to live as a mobile cashgrab from King.
  • Castlevania goes to Nintendo probably, idk they good at platforming stuff and milking franchises.
  • Suikoden goes to Vanillaware (YES). Cross gen PS4/PS5 Suikoden VI please.
  • Zone of enders give it to ubisoft so that now we will have yearly games and everyone will quickly get tired of hearing and mentioning this franchise.
  • PES. . . Hmm I think Tencent or 2K games could make a great addicting mtx football game.

Why would Konami go under? Their profits actually sky rocketed after they left gaming. Hell their profit increased just by firing Kojima.

No more letting that hack piss away their money.

Smart move.

Pro Evo is a massive cash cow. It probably makes more money and sales than any of their other games combined.

Konami? Going under? Not any time soon with those Pachinko machines.

More likely they take another huff of cocaine and go on an IP selling spree. Still a remote possibility, but still more likely than them going under. At which point...

MGS to Kojima Productions. It's his baby. Let him have it, why not.

Silent Hill to Frictional Games. The SH games were never about the gameplay anyway.

Contra to Devolver Digital. It just fits, somehow.

Castlevania to From Software. Dark Souls games are basically modern-day Castlevania games in many ways anyway.

PES to 2K. *Shrugs* I dunno.

Castlevania: Team Cherry or From Software

Bomberman: Nintendo

Silent Hill: Sony/Kojima Productions

Frogger: Nintendo

PES: Sega?

Metal Gear: Sony/Kojima Productions

Gradius: Nintendo

Suikoden: Nintendo/Monolith Soft

Those are all the ips I care about. I didn’t know who to give Contra to.

Give Platinum everything.

Castelvania, Zone of the Enders, Metal Gear (so they can make a Rising sequel)

I have been saying over time that Capcom should buy the SH franchise it would be a perfect fit they also could bring back Team Silent for input.

That would be nice.....

Maybe they can make a deal. Konami can have the licence to make pachinko with the properties. Leave the games to real devs.

Yeah it‘d be nice for something to happen with all the excellent IPs that they have languishing around.

Silent Hill should go to Kojima productions, but we know that will never happen. There are rumors that Kojimas next game will be a new horror I.P, hopefully it will be similar to P.T.

Love how no one mentoined Yu-Gi-Oh. This one would probably be the toughest one to figure out a new owner for tbh. I don't know if Fantasy Flight Games has any interest at all in collectible card games and Hasbro has Magic: The Gathering.

I'd prefer Capcom get most of them. Sell MGS and ZoE back to Kojima. Sad to say but Capcom and Konami were my favorite 3rd party companies back in the day. It's great to see Capcom doing well and making great games but Konami needs to die. They have lost everyone and have no plans to make great games.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, since Silent Hill deals with interdimensional overlapping. They could probably work out a feasible story.

Castlevania to From Soft

Silent Hill to Frictional games for the atmosphere they build in their games.

MGS let it die or give it to Kojima

Suikoden to Square Enix or Monolith Soft

Bomberman to Nintendo

Contra to Nintendo or Capcom

Frictional would be a logical choice for SH, for sure. They could definitely handle the series, although it would be far different from the old Team Silent days.

Another dev that might be able to do something good with SH is Bloober. Not all of their games have been great, but if they could recreate the kind of heavy atmosphere and general surreal creepiness they achieved in Layers of Fear I think they might be a good match for the series.

Would it still be Castlevania? I would argue that 505 Games would be a better fit for the IP as they would hire ArtPlay to make a new game proper. Castlevania without Koji Igarashi will feel a little weird. Lords of Shadow 1 did what it did really well, but something about the second game just felt like it was missing a lot of things. Atmosphere being one of those things.

I hope they don't go under but if they did here is what I would say would make the most sense. I'm not going to name devs or specific publishers, just the likely landing spots on each of the big 3.

Adventure Island - Nintendo

Bloody Roar - console multiplat - any number of devs or publishers could pick up the IP and I would be cool with it. I really want to see a new one.

Bomberman - Nintendo

Castlevania - Playstation/Nintendo

Contra - I could see MS picking this one up. Just for the love of god make a good one, that last abomination is a disgrace to the name.

Dance Dance - Man I don't know... I would like to see a new one but I can't see it working outside PS or Xbox. I'll go with PS.

Frogger - Probably Nintendo, but I think it could work with any of the three, and this could easily be another MS pickup.

Gradius - Likely PS

Metal Gear - PS

PES - who cares

Silent Hill - Multiplat or PS

Suikoden - PS or Nin

Zone of the Enders - PS

@flashn00b: Japan recently put through some new laws limiting pachinko productivity. So Konami suddenly being interested in game development again is little surprise.

As i've said earlier, they got one of their best guys to make a Contra game and they still failed horribly, hence why I have no faith in Konami's future endeavors regarding game development.

But yuh, I guess I will have to be in agreement with Kojima owning Metal Gear because even if nothing is to be done with that IP, he can still net some cash from MGS5 sales on Steam.

As for @WitIsWisdom's belief that DDR would really only work on PlayStation, I disagree. Depending on who owns the intellectual property rights, I can see it working extremely well on PC since pretty much all the work that has been done for the relevant peripherals has been targeting its usage on Windows PCs.

Completely disagree, and i remember reading something similar before GOW came out. Lots of people were complaining that it wasn't in top down view. These two games are very similar gameplay wise. If the dev in charge is good, castlevania created with the same style as gow could be godly.

Lord of Shadow 1 was good, but if that world was made in third person, with much more secrets, optional bosses and a bunch of unlockables, it could've been so much better.
