If Mario wasn't Nintendo's mascot, who would replace him?

Edit: Soryy that I din't include Luigi, guys. Truth be told, I love Luigi more than Mario. But it would be to obvious for Luigi to win, so I didn't include him.

Link, without a doubt. The Legend of Zelda is Nintendo's third best selling franchise (next to Pokemon and Mario). Pikachu isn't much of a mascot for his own franchise, so I doubt that Nintendo would use Pikachu to represent their entire company.

Almost certainly Link.

Haha, loving all the link love, i'll be different and say Fox though. Just cos Zelda games are good, and samus games are good. fox games are going a bit downhill. Him being the leader will hopefully bring quality to him games.tirralirra

True, that could increase the quality of Star Fox games. However, couldn't it also just decrease the quality of all the other franchises? I could see things going either way.

It would definitely be Link, he's just the next most well-known Nintendo franchise.

Were have you guys been? Mario stopped being Nintendo's main mascot ever since this gen started. Mii's have replaced him. Ever heard of that game Wii Sports, you know, best selling console game of all time? chaotzu

link or pikachu, i doubt many non gamers even know who olimar, samus or fox is.

pikachu is known because of the whole pokemon craze that went on with the colllectors cards, tv show, games and movies.

link has been around for along time. non gamers will know the name zelda, but know the character/looks of link, but most people should have clue who you are talking about.
