To me "next gen" means new innovaion.

I totally wish the Wii had better graphics to immerse players even deeper into the experience but I find well controlling wii games much more immersive than games of the PS3 and 360.

Now I do not want to just trash the Wii here, but if all the consoles had the same controls I would no longer play consoles. I, like most i suspect, was tempted to buy the Wii just like everyone else. I decided to wait for my girlfriends spoiled little brother to get his. He did, and everyone had a great time making Miis and playing Wii sports. Literally a week later he stopped playing it, and he is nine years old, so I suspect he is the target audience. I am not biased against any console or game without experience like "fanboys" are, but the people I know who have a Wii got bit by the Wii sports bug, and then realized there is little depth to the system as a whole. Nintendo are talented developers, so they are not to blame for my, and others'. disappointment with the Wii, I believe the controller is to blame. To call the Wii "next gen" when it doesn't even support high def (Xbox 1 did, as well as the PS2 I believe), or even play DVD's is just strange in my opinion.

Thank you for your response. Well thought out. I am 25 and I play my Wii a lot. Now I do have to say that I would have never bought a wii on my own, or any other console I have always been a computer gamer, but the Wii has brought me back to consoles. My family that bought me the wii just like you said were initially cought by the wii sports bug. Wii sports the most in depth tech demo ever. I have really grown to love many other games like Resident Evil 4 wii edition, Tiger Woods golf, and most of the Nintendo first party games. I often take my wii to friends houses and being so small it travels well. There is always something for everyone from the most casual players to the most hardcore.

Again, thank you for your opinion and hope you also understand mine.

By the way. The wii does support high def. It does not support full 1080p high def. However I don't think there has been a game yet that really took advantage of the high def capabilities.

No, it means that if that motion crap is forced on me, I will stop consol gaming and stick to being PC only.

I really hope console gaming as a whole doesn't go that way, but I've seen the writing on the wall ever since the Wii was so successful. Looks like PC gaming it is..

No, it just means that both will be trying to cash in on some of the success that the Wii has had, and it will merely remain an option for those who wish to buy it and use it in addition to the standard controls that are (and will remain) the basis for both the 360 and the PS3.

I wouldn't say so, PS3, X360 and the Wii are all true next gen consoles in their own right, it would just mean that they are taking one of the Wii's biggest appeals and using it for their own consoles.

The Sixaxis had motion sensors from day one, the thing is the game developers just haven't bothered to use this feature yet.
