Imagine if sony owned microsoft but apple owned sony but then nintendo bought apple and then the world implodedjoel_c17pretty sure nintendo could not buy apple.
MS would drive EA into the ground and rely on declining sales of yearly iterations of popular sports franchises. EA is probably valued at way more than MS would ever make off of buying them, plus the fact that the publisher has been reporting losses for several years now is not a good sign that it's a time to buy.
How do you buy a large-scale publisher like that anyway? My guess is that you don't buy the publishing brand, but instead its individual components and creative development teams (as well as publishing rights, of course). Wonder how that works exactly....

Not going to happen because,
1. EA is to large to be easy bought. The process of buying EA could destabilise MS.
2. EA is to independent to want to be bought (would fight tooth and nail)
3. This would so get the US government involved, they have a history with MS and a buyout that would put MS at a huge advantage over its competitors (EA Sports alone would get government involved)
MS could buy so many more studios than Sony and Nintendo, yet they haven't. Makes me think the console scene is a temporary thing for them, but given how much money the 360 made for the last fiscal year (over $1 billion), they might start to take it seriously. themyth01
A lot of people on this forum are under the impression that Microsoft's gaming division runs the company, just because the company has lots of money doesn't mean the Xbox guys have it all at their disposal.
If microsoft bought EA they would be a force to be reckoned with. They would own Bioware, Dice, and other top developers tied to EA. Imagine if all Bioware games were Xbox/PC exclusive, along with battlefield and EA Sports. if Microsoft accquired EA they might acctuallly have a strong first party. What's your take System Wars?Plagueless
It would be a great move for Xbox, but it would be a bad move for EA. From one side of it, it would be fantastic for Xbox 360's lacking 1st party support. Instantly, so many big names would be on Xbox only.
HOWEVER, it wouldn't work.EA makes their money being multiplatform, this strategy could jeopardize the entire company.

they could, but just because a company has lots of money, doesn't mean they can just go around buying random studios, its not very cost-efficient and won't make maximum profits.
Personally I'd do it if I was Microsoft but I doubt they would ever do it. Maybe back in the day when Bill was in charge but now they are a bunch of ****. I'd keep the games multiconsole but release them on the Xbox a week or two ahead of the other consoles. That would prevent the huge devaluation of the company and bring in cash from the other consoles. They would also get the 20% of Ubisoft that EA owns. I'd take it a step further and buy T2 and make them exclusive ('cept for their sports games).
That would just about kill the Playstation brand.
..the industry would dissolve into an oversaturation of Kinect games. :PMrSelf-DestructNow that would truly suck.
Imagine if those devs went back to their PC roots(DICE kind of is already), games would be a whole lot better. ;)DragonfireXZ95yep and pirated just as much as they are now thus bankrupting those developers.
If MS bought EA then it would still be buisness as usual. The main reason EA is so profitable is because it's multiplatform, especially when it comes to sports games. MS would just reap the reward of owning the company.
Not gonna happen but an MS E3 megaton of them buying SEGA and having Shenmue 3, new Jet Grind Radio and a new PSO ready for the launch of their new console hmmm... Now that would make so much sense plus at the end of this E3, gamers would be saying, hey, did "N" announce a new console ??
Yeah, also not happening. :P
I think buying Take-Two would make much more sense for them than buying Sega. They are cheaper and they could launch with GTA, RDR2, Max Payne 3 (which they could hand back over to Remedy). Shenmue, Jet Grind and PSO would be great but they wont move anywhere near as many consoles as GTA alone. Not gonna happen but an MS E3 megaton of them buying SEGA and having Shenmue 3, new Jet Grind Radio and a new PSO ready for the launch of their new console hmmm...
