I think the PS3 would n't have had a blue-ray in it and the graphic will be Xbox graphics, and since nintendo doesn't care about graphic they are more innovative Sony wouldn't have pushed their console to far. and it stays between them both.

What you think.

The spot where my 360 is would be vacant space. Vacant space that echos into my nightmares and claws at my very soul until nothing is left but a cold dead shell of a man....... other than that not much would have changed really.

The Blue-ray isn't in PS3 because of Microsoft, its in there because Sony wanted to use its dominance in the game industry to push its format as a winner. Whether Microsoft was in the industry or not Sony would push its format in the PS3 because they didn't want another Betamax. It is actually a great thing that Microsoft entered the gaming industry because it served as a wake up call for Sony and maybe next time they wont be as arrogant as they were this generation.

If MS never existed in a gaming world, online gaming would be a disaster(Dreamcast). Halo would'nt be the single best Console FPS of all time for consoles, we wouldnt have HDD in our Consoles either. PS2 was supposed to last 10 years and thanks to MS releasing their next-gen console, some people get to enjoy PS3 and all its prowess, without the 10 year wait. Not to mention X360 was the first to shorten the gap between PC-like performance on a console.

Lets be realistic here, Online gaming probably wouldn't of evolved as much because Sony didn't have a good set-up for PS2 and Nintendo just plain DON'T care about it. I think without the Xbox, Halo would of been "another" great FPS on PC and most of the Xbox exclusives like Ninja Gaiden, Forza, KOTOR...Fable Etc...would of gone to PC and PS2.

I think the PS3 would of not been out until fall 2007..because 360 wouln't of exisited...no pressure from Nintendo as PS2 was resisting most Wii sales and Sony could launch PS3 with a smaller price point and more games. Mind you PS3 would of had a much bigger userbase of HD gamers.

Only a fanboy like yourself couldn't realize the contributions MS made in the gaming buisness.

yeah, their "bribe the developers so the game is exclusive on our system" strategy really helped the gaming business!

seriously, I can't stand their monopolistic tactics. they do this on as many fronts as possible: computers, operating systems, and now game consoles. they are sneaky and underhanded. don't give me the whole "but all game companies are like that!" spiel. microsoft is the worst, with their CEO as the most arrogant geek on the planet, more than all of sony. MS doesn't believe in competition, they believe in totally crushing all opposition in any way. honestly, they would not be this appealing once they achieved market dominance, jacking up the price with their "optional" add-ons to whatever console they will have in the future. I don't trust them, no matter how fun or appealing their games may be, they are still not nice people.

Well, when talking about the gaming industry I think Microsoft contribute a great deal, but as for the console market they've done nothing to say they were needed. PS2 already had plans to come with HDD and online. They was just slow to make it happen. As for Halo? That's giving credit to the wrong team. Thank Bungie not Microsoft. When it comes to console gaming Microsoft perfected the cut and paste tactic. If you realize how MS got it great games, it was all thanks to Windows OS money. Paying off a developer one at a time.

if it wasn't for microsoft buying bungie; the halo would have remained a simple RTS game for the mac. so part of the credit does go to them.

Hm... i dont know.  M$ revolutionized online gaming (much more than the DC did).  Also, M$ have forced $ony to not milk their consumers as much and try to appeal to more people by making great games instead of just monopolizing the industry like they did with the PS1/2.

So, i think the industry is a better place now with M$.

If the guy who created Bungie wanted it to be a Buger joint and not a Gaming software company, we wouldn't even have the idea of a Halo. You see what i did there?

the PS3 wouldn't have cost that much if MS hadn't decided that they had to enter the race with power and only power. Seriously this power race between MS and Sony is disgusting, each one just trying to out do each other with the gamers being asked to pay for this war. $600 PS3!? WTF?!?! 360 Elite?!? WTH?!?  Never before has gaming been so untouchable by the mass market. Who in their rightmind would pay $600 to play a videogame? Blu-ray? utterly useless to everyone but the tech geeks. There is a theory out there that technology will reach a point where consumers will only pay a ceratin price for it, i think we hit that last generation. There is nothing (to the average joe) that warrants the 360 and PS3 to cost so much. People aren't going to buy it, people aren't buying it. This generation has the potential of having the least hardware sold ever. certainly lees then last generation. I don't wish MS never have joined the race, only that they should have taken a different route.

All multiplatform games would be only on PS3, looking like garbage with washed out colors, no A+HDR, and 1/2 the resolutioin textures than 360 gives

A pure disaster, 360 with the best hardware simply wins, i would rather have Wii or PS3 not release at all

I'm sorry but how did the PS1/2 monopolize gaming? I'm pretty sure Sony never bought out any company, they all went to the PS1/2 themselves Sony never forced them to (unlike one company whos in the console gaming now).

A misinformed gamer he is...

1. Sony never monoplize the console market
2. Nintendo shun 3rd parties i.e. Squaresoft, and Sony welcome them with open arms
3. Nintendo always wanted the seal of approval on there games. 3rd parties didn't like it, so Sony was the preferred choice
4. Sony is a Japanese company. They don't need to pay out for a Japanese developing company to support them. Loyalty to ones nation.
5.  Even as today, people criticize Sony for not paying out the doe to keep their games exclusive.  No, I don't want Sony to scoop to the level of greed like Microsoft.

Blu-ray doesn't have anything to do with MS being in the game industry. If anything this generation would be far better without MS forcing it to start early. PS3 would've seen a staggered 2007 launch likely with a better GPU. This year is the year this gereration really starts..... MS just blew it starting way too early. MS is leeching off of PC gaming and transforming console gaming into this hybrid that really only appeals to a niche, albeit a "hard-core" one.

Thats competition. How do you expect to grow/get better if you have nothing inspiring/competing againts you. There has to be a start somewhere to encourage change and growth. Why don't you realize this.

LOL - what world are you living in? Sony has been doing this way way way waaaaay more often than any other console manufacturer out there have ever done. And still you crap on MS. Incredible.

A console market without MS would :

1) Have made us wait until at least 2010 before Sony stopped milking the PS2 and gave us some new hardware.

2) Not have online for consoles. Because 'it isn't needed' according to some companies...

3) Not have any great FPS-games for consoles - a trend largely started by XBox (and the online capabilities).

If MS didn't enter the "console gaming industry", I would still be only playing on my PC.

Haven't bought a console since the SNES, only been PC gaming since then. And if the 360 never came out, I most likely would of never bought either a PS3 or Wii and would still be PC gaming.

Competition is the key, having 3 consoles only makes it better for all console owners.

The PS3 would be a runaway success; and there'd be no such thing as PSN. Online console gaming would still be a nice thing that pops up with one or two games, and is never any good.

[QUOTE="hyruledweller"]If MS did n't enter the gaming industry...the industry would have been a better place.Mordred19

Every now and then, people make a post which guarantees they will never again be taken seriously on system wars. This is your post.

Bribe the developers? Are you kidding? They sign contracts. They make deals. It's been that way for decades? BRIBE the developers? It's not like Sony had a contract with Rockstar to keep Grand Theft Auto on their system for years, is it?  Sheesh.

And i love how you take the typical stance of "microsoft and bill gates are teh evil". Bill Gates gives more to charity every year than the entire sony game division even earns. I'd love to see Sony establsih a company with the soul purpose of finding people who need money and then giving it to them.

And finally; i'd like to see one "underhanded" tactic you're whining about. It's not like Sony put rootkits on people's computers or anything.

Entire post = nonsense.

MS did bring some great things into the gaming console industry like a unified online service, a standard harddrive (even though they went backwards on this one), making console gaming like pc, and competition is always good, but I seriously think we should fear MS dominating this gen because then it allows them to charge for services that should be free (online gaming, downloads), price gauge downloadable content, and get away with putting out poorly designed hardware (red lights of doom, disc scratching).  I don't mind MS in the console industry as long they dont monopolize it like they have done to pc industry. I really hope that PSN improves to kick MS in the a$$ so that they don't nickel and dime gamers.
