If mw3 has a pay to play model, does that mean 360 owners have to pay twice?

First I am NOT bashing xbox in this thread, I'm simply pointing out something that I think is unfair to the 360 consumer base.

As some of you know there are rumors going around that Modern Warfare 3 will charge a fee to play online, and while they are JUST rumors at this point, you still have to wonder if it will be true especially considering that this is Activision we're talking about here.

I don't play on 360 very much but I still think that IF there is an online fee to play mw3 online than that's just treating the 360 owners unfair, we are ALL gamers here and while we may have differeng tastes, I still think that there should be certain things were we draw the line as a community. And this is one of them.

360 owners already pay for Gold membership to play online so I think that mw3 should be free for them IF it has a seperate online fee. It simply isn't right to charge them again for something like that.

Anyways I know it's just a rumor right now but I remember during the E3 Battlefield 3 presentation EA mentioned something how they arn't going to charge an online fee to play BF3. So that's something to keep in mind, WHY would they say that?

Anyways go ahead and tell me what you think.

Of course they will. CoD sells the most on the 360, and I'm sure they'll be the ones to eat this "service" right up.

I guess they will, though as Activision have said, you won't have to pay to play it online. You will only have to pay for some of the Elite features.

Of course. XBL = MS, MW3 fee = Activision. There is no correlation. MW3 is not going to be pay to play though.

But why would they do that, I seriously doubt people would. Why would ANYONE pay for something that is free, it doesn't make sense. COD doesn't have any servers and it's always been free to play on so why would they start paying for it.

I think people are smarter consumers than that.

Ok just because I like ps3 more doesn't mean I hate 360, I'm simply stating how I think it's unfair to charge 360 owners againif they are already paying for it. And I think the vast majority of 360 owners would agree with me.

Modern Warfare 3 won't have pay to play online. Most of those rumors were probably hinting to Elite. (Which is mostly free)

Ok so there is another seperate mode to it that you pay a fee for. Well that's not as bad I guess, still pretty stupid though considering that they would have to pay again anyway. What does elite mode have like extra maps or modes or something because if so than that stuff is already free to begin with.

Elite is not a mode, it's a service. It's basically a stat tracking/COD social website.

I doubt they'll charge to play online, if anything they'll have a free pass in all new copies and something people who buy used will have to pay into.

Not pay twice. Pay 4 times. 1. Cable bill (your actual connection) 2. Xbox Live bill (middle man with no assets involved) 3. MW3 buy the game 4. MW3 online bill (either 3 or 4 is not necessary) If you pay for online, then game should be free. If you pay for game, online should be free. Paying both is the equivalent of saying your game costs $200-$300 to play. Like in the 2000's when all the games started going MMO, companies were thinking "Pay $15 a month to play a game" was a trend that would apply to everything. Consumers pulled back, most MMO's failed, oops. We are not as stupid as companies think. We will not be milked that easily (well, Xbox 360 users will, the rest of us won't.)

Considering Activision isn't part of Microsoft why would XBL Gold members not also have to pay for CoD Elite? Activision isn't just going to give it away to people for free.

While it's known that they are not currently charging for Online itself, this is a test to see how far they can push people. If it is a smash hit and they start making mad bank on it, you can damn well guarantee Pay to Play isn't far off in their minds.

LOL

most MMOS go F2P because of WoW, it just made MMO to hard to be competitive enough. but other companys probably make more money off stuff you have to play for PLUS, since you can't get the full game without paying for something in MMOs, being F2P is pretty much not a strong point if your not Guildwars 2.

and again, PC online gaming can be free because the community pays for the servers you play on, something that consoles currently lack

I would love if MS and Acitivions announced a deal where all users get the elite at no extra charge, would be huge.

One, there is no pay to play model for mw3, of course EA would try to start a rumor (they're called rumors for a reason like Christopher Nolan filming Inception and Batman in 3d, that never happened did it?) like that. Second, Elite has a free model that includes the stat tracking and clan/group stuff that is already free for every other game so Activision won't be stupid enough to charge for that in the first place and the paid subscription parts of it have not been revealed yet because they are related to MW3 stuff. Third, EA has been recycling games since before 2002 (its called the EA sports division, all they do is add a new number to every single sport game they make with a slightly better engine which which surprisingly they've gotten away with it so far, no one seems to realize that. Fourth, people who buy preowned copies of EA games like Medal of Honor, Dead Space 2, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have to buy online passes to get the most out of their online play. Unfortunately, no BF fan is going to get this through their thick skulls while the MW3 fans have to suffer because the BF people spend elaborate amounts of time creating and supporting sites like modernwarfare3.com dedicated to bullying Activison and its fans. Y'all BF fans need to chill out and get a life.

Granted, the Elite features are purely optional (you can still play online without it, but you'll be giving up on a few things), so I guess you have a choice in all of that. I mean, if COD games are dead set on coming out every year, then I don't see a point in staying loyal to just one title when it's basically "obsolete" after a while (sure, people will still be playing the older titles, but support for it won't be as active).

PC online gaming can be free because the community pays for the servers you play on, something that consoles currently lackgamer-adam1
Almost all console games are peer-to-peer, the "server" is someone's console. Secondly online FPS games typically come with "free" online because there's much less content than say an RPG or something. Compare the content in CoD with content in Fallout, doesn't even have 1/50th the content, it's just crosshairs and a map. The content IS the servers. There's alot of ripoffs in life. CoD is one, Xbox Live is another.

MW3 won't be pay to play. Activision will never charge for CoD multiplayer. The features and services that are currently free will remain so for all eternity. Because they want to grow their 30 million strong userbase and sell them additional content and services.

This vilification of and severe mistrust in Activision is quite misplaced. No online pass, no pre-order BS, no paying for cheats, AFAIK no locked content on the disc, no spamming your friends to unlock a thing, no content withheld under the pretense that it's "free maps" etc. It's EA who is always at the forefront of these dubious schemes. They're wallowing in that ****, they love it. Yet it is always Activision that people complain about and toss feces at regarding these types of things.

MW3 or any other CoD will never have a fee for playing the multiplayer.

It's not a pay to play model so it doesn't matter :).

If they wan Elite, then 360 gamers will have to pay twice. Iantheone
Not really. If they want the premium COD Elite service then they will have to pay for it... but it doesn't keep you from playing online if you don't. There's still a COD Elite service that's free. I also don't know where TC is seeing these "rumours" about paying to play MW3 online. That was squashed a long time ago as I remember it. You pay $60 for the game, that's all.

Of course they will. CoD sells the most on the 360, and I'm sure they'll be the ones to eat this "service" right up.

MW3 will not be pay to play. They would destroy their fanbase if they did that.
