There have been some early rumours that Nintendo are going to announce a new system soon. Sony and MS are both working on hardware accessories for their existing consoles, but would they be overshadowed by a new Nintendo launch? Would Nintendo announcing a new system bring forward plans by Sony and MS to launch their next console?

What do Nintendo need to do with their next system to win over people who were not impressed by the Wii?

Also, would announcing a new system now effectively kill the Wii? Would you buy a console, knowing it was going to be replaced imminently? (I guess lots of people bought PS2s after PS3 was announced, and even after launch, but the PS2 was a legendary machine!)

Its going to be an interesting year to be a gamer I think.

What would it mean for Xbox and PS?

It would be FANTASTIC news. Nintendo would be doing for them, what they couldn't do on their own, help kill off the Wii. It would be a miracle.

However, Nintendo won't do this. Looks at history...NES, SNES, DS, GBA...no, Nintendo won't be doing this at all.

At a later point, they will, but the Wii is only 3 years old, to release another console so early is like admitting their mistake.

A mistake, I might add, that doesn't exist, since the Wii is an uber seller. No, they will ride these profits sky high, and for a long time.

It's amazing how much they make per unit on every DS and Wii sold, but the consumers find the pricing JUST RIGHT.

I really doubt Nintendo would release a new console soon. Even if the Wii is losing steam it's still selling better than the competition and with such a huge install base theres still alot of money to be made from software.

But pretending something like this actually happened I think it would actually be a good thing for Sony and Microsoft. It would confuse alot of the Wii consumers. They'd be torn between this new console and their older one, Nintendo would likely quit supporting the Wii in an effort to push the new hardware out the door and it would be a mess akin to SEGA pre-Dreamcast stuff.

A new Nintendo handheld seems more believable(although the DS is still doing really good), if Nintendo were to release a new handheld that wouldn't really effect the 360, it's largely a different market and demographic. As for Sony, much like the 360 a handheld wouldn't effect Sony's PS3. The PSP though, I guess it would effect that although PSP isn't doing so hot except in Japan. So I guess that would hurt the PSP more, not that anyone here cares.

1. they wouldn't do it with this system being so young it would be a big mistake. the way the wii's r selling??? replacing them just doesn't seem right and unlike some of there other comepitors once they start a new system they ususally end the old one one the spot.

2. if they did do that (when they do it eventually)I think that they would jsut take the wii, make the controls more presise and then the graphics... thats why I always thot that the wii was so great. the other consoles can't go much further, there rreaching there limit in graphics (within the average spending range) and have no where else to go, but wii has alot they can expand. ^_^ woot

Nintendo made too much money off casual gamers with the wii to go back to making a good, quality system. I wouldnt care and wouldnt buy it.

I would imagine that wii hd would be possible via firmware update and component cables.

Doubt they will any time soon, they still profit from both wii and the DS. That said however, i wouldn't be too surprised to see them being the first ones to release a next gen console, but i can't imagine it happening until 2012-2013, because after all...

It certainly looks like the Nintendo rumours have been referring to a possible new DS, rather than a replacement for the Wii.

It will be facinating to see what a "next gen" handheld will be able to do.
