Their prices are ridiculously high. Royalties from games + base price + a monthly fee is getting a little silly especially because there are better cheaper alternatives for most gamers out there that are not so limiting.
And MS is still kinda bad at making hardware for some reason.
I dislike how your hands have to be so close together on DS4/XB1 controllers. Ever since the Wii I miss being able to move my arms around whenever I feel like it.
All platforms can be 'worth it' if you have enough imagination but people should take a look at PC's. Consoles are not a primary platform. Especially Sony/MS consoles have lost pretty much all properties that made them viable in the past.
Theres very little distinction between the competition, its the sort of environment where corporate third party monoliths monopolize the industry and run amok. Theres no innovation, no quality control from microsoft and sony, fees out the ass, cleverly disguised early access games with cut content dlc and mobile inspired micro transactions, and lets not forget the most important thing of all, no exclusive games.
Ps4 and xbone are both more anti consumer and generic than the 360 last gen, which is quite the feat to say the least, theyre borderline toxic at this point.
The current problems for each company?
1. For Nintendo it's terribly underpowered hardware and no third party support.
2. For Microsoft it's whoring out all exclusives to the PC making the console itself completely irrelevant.
3. For Sony it's a complete lack of effort to get backwards compatibility on what would be an amazing ecosystem.
For Sony, their biggest flaw is that their online service still sucks compared to Xbox Live yet now we have to pay for it. I'm happy to pay for a quality online service like Xbox Live, but if they can't match Xbox Live's quality then they should not charge for it until they can. Any gamer that cares a lot about online gaming knows that Xbox Live is still the place to be.
For Microsoft, I would say their biggest flaw is that they don't have as strong a library of exclusives associated with the Xbox brand as Sony and Nintendo have associated with their console brands. Microsoft's first party is weaker than Sony and Nintendo's first party, plus Microsoft is letting too many Xbox games also get released on PC which further weakens the Xbox brand.
For Nintendo, I'm going to say their biggest flaw is something different than the being underpowered and lacking third party support answers that most people would give. I think their biggest flaw is that they no longer have strong second party developers. Let's face it, for most people, Nintendo consoles are secondary consoles that people buy just to enjoy Nintendo's exclusives, so even if Nintendo had better third party support, people still would not buy the third party games on Nintendo consoles. But Nintendo could still be very successful as a secondary console if they have a big enough library of great exclusives. I look back at the N64 and while it had weak third party support and was not the top selling console of that generation, it was still a very popular console because it had a lot of great exclusives, not only from Nintendo but also from great second party developers like RARE. I think that's what would benefit Nintendo most right now, having a new RARE that can fill in the gaps between Nintendo's releases and offer more variety to Nintendo's exclusive lineup.
@ShadowDeathX:
The download speed(s) on the X1 is laughable indeed. Hardwired into the router and even getting 99% or so of the speed I am paying for results in slower downloads than my Wii U connected via wifi. Of course I can still download a huge update or full game relatively quick but on a data to data basis, the Wii U is faster.
Nintendo flaw is their ignorant, weaker console, bad third party relationship, defective online platform are results, now the old executive is gone,we may see a change.
Sony flaw is poverty, greedy and charge for psn, lack the money for marketing, remaster every possible title, passive on prices battle..They are the poorest of the three, fail a big move and we could say bybbyb to playstation,or even Sony.
MS paying for their arrogant, almost throw them out of the game. They still have a set mind, their games or strategies only focu on America market, arrogant fool. For example,Sony is feeding chinese with games and locate support, growing China to be their home market just like Europe. With so much money they could waste,MS still act like they was never there.
@lastcoin: Sony has been doing horrible in China though. They blame Chinese censorship for it. Sony thought China lifting the console ban would help them, but guess not to their liking.
7. Patches out the ass
8. not being plug and play
9. Greedy practices like DLC, season passes and microtransactions
10. Games taking too long to come out except for iterative crap
That said I don't actually think the *Ps4* is underpowered, Sony did the best they could given the energy and heat restrictions a console has. Consoles don't compete with PC, though unfortunately they're becoming more and more like PC anyway.
@mesome713: It is a growing market, they are building their fanbase. What?Sony expected a million sell form them?
Could I get a source of what you just said?

Microsoft's Xbox engineering team is pretty crap compared to either Sony or Nintendo. Original Xbox was like two times the size of its competitors, 360 had RROD issues, XB1 is bigger than the PS4 while also being weaker. They also had to fix their controllers within each generation.
Original Xbox
People were pissed off about the size of the original Xbox (Duke) controller, so later they released the smaller Xbox S controller.
Xbox 360
Initial 360 controllers had crappy D-pads, so years later they released 360 controllers with transforming D-pad.
XB1
Initial XB1 controllers had flawed shoulder buttons and no standard headphone input.
Now in regards to Sony, their biggest flaw in the past was creating hardware that was tough to develop for (Mainly PS2 and PS3). They fixed that now with the PS4.
@mesome713:
And the western media already calling it a game over.
Now,I highly doubt those sell numbers, since japanese anime culture is very popular among chinese, and the PS4 they selling are region free.According to what I heard(from gamer),MS is the one doing horrible there.
The sells are low,for such a massive market, but it will get better.
@lastcoin: Yeah, i think so, so far PS4 is predicted to sell around 500k total by the end of 2015 in China experts say. Source on the expert can be found below.

Who cares? Bottom line? A person can buy the Sony or MS console and get the biggest releases every year, which are usually Multiplats. Nintendo isn't getting them. I don't care how good Yoshi's anus is, if I cant play The Witcher 3, MGS5, Fallout 4 on the console. They know it also.

For XBO's APU chip size, Microsoft wasted transistor space for 47 MB ESRAM which could yielded another 14 CU (12 active) Bonaire GPU, hence the total CU count would be 28.
For PS4's APU chip size, Sony just needs to add extra cooling to slightly increase the clock speed for CPU, GPU and memory. Sony did a good job with their lesser budget.
PS4's chip size: 348 mm^2
XBO's chip size: 363 mm^2 <----------- larger than PS4 and still inferior GPU performance. LOL
XBox One's APU. Notice the 47 MB ESRAM (look at SRAM blocks) wastage.
Xbone has an astronomical amount of flaws that would simply not fit on Gamespot. PS4 has underpowered gpu/cpu, shitty batteries, Made in China feel all over the place (from the console itself to the controller and the HDMI cable included with the system), not enough exclusives worth a damn. Its simple, ps4 is messy but Xbone is even messier which is kind of an achievement on its own.
Their 1st party lacks, PSN needs work.
Are you F serious or what ?
Go to metacritic and count each and every generation what Playstation offered as of 1st party titles vs Nintendo and come here again to tell me 1st party lacks ... What the heck.
Sony's first party is lacking, and compared to Nintendo's first party, it is nothing short of a joke.

Playstation says hi / Playstation 2 says hi / Playstation 3 says hi / Playstation 4 will say hi soon.
Are you guys such fanboys to call PS consoles lacking 1st party ? Is this a joke ?
EDIT : And i wont even count all those AAA time exclusives that defined PS brand like FF7 / RE series etc .. Come on now ...be legit please
If people don't support Nintendo gaming is definitely in trouble in the coming years
Its nintendo themselfs that need to support their products way more than they are the last 4 generations in orded to keep people interested in order for them to keep supporting Nintendo and not the other way around.
Look Wii , supposed the winner of last gen , 100M userbase and still Nintendo let all those people with literally no games very early , system died way faster than competition etc ... Wii U the very same thing ... An amazing 2014... a whole year with mediocre games 2015 , while waiting for 1-2 great games in 2016... and then death is coming.
All in all ... its Nintendos fault. If they really want people to keep supporting them ...they should support their own products as well.
Destiny has flaws, lots of them, and still sells well. Marketing is god, actual quality is only one means to effective marketing.
Sony is winning so much because they won the marketing war so drastically this generation. Nintendo completely missed its moment and went on the wrong train, while Microsoft completely fucked up early on in the Don't **** Up contest. Sony didn't mess up on its marketing and was carried a long way by its competitors' incompetence. And just like WoW, what is popular only gets more popular, since a lot of people are programmed to prefer what's most popular on the market.
@AzatiS: Nintendo is supporting their entire console business (albeit poorly) mostly exclusively on 1st party games. If Sony or MS tried to do so absent 3rd parties, their business would collapse in very short order.
Like Nintendo's games or hate them, you have to give them credit for supporting themselves almost entirely on their own. That's an impressive feat. It is true that their business is shrinking, but it would be nothing compared to watching how quickly Sony and MS would tank if all 3rd party support suddenly up and vanished.

Thats the problem right there .... What you said on first sentence.
Because of Nintendo releasing very few really amazing games doesnt mean that they supporting as much as they should their userbase.
I understand the situation Wii U is in and why it will die so soon , i really am , but on the other hand the very same thing happened with Wii. When having 100 million userbase out there , winning the console war by far , you dont let it go so fast and in that fashion , no you dont. What Nintendo did with Wii was unacceptable imho and it was the very first console in history that despite its amazing sales and profits died way faster than competitors. The one and only in history.
So as much as i want to accept the fact that Nintendo letting Wii U go because of its sales and that alone , Wii comes up and makes me think that no , thats not the case. Its Nintendos decision to do so and when it make sense Wii U wise , it freaking doesnt Wii wise.
So all in all , what if Nintendo releasing 3-4 really great AAA caliber games every generation. Does that mean they supporting their fans till the very end. No it doesnt and you all Nintendo fans shouldnt accept that imho. I know you are all happy just with the usual but whats next ? For example why not Mario Galaxy 3 ? Why not another Zelda ? Why not another Smash for 100+ million users out there? You get my point ?
Take PS3 for example , it had such a rough time the first 3-4 years , with literally no big 1st party to show off the first 2 , overpriced , lost exclusives to competition that defined Playstation brand ( Final Fantasy series , Tekken series and more ) , had to cut down hardware ( BC , drives etc ) to get cheaper , lost multiplatform war while SONY themselfs were on a multibillion loss as a company , every single year of PS3s life up to its death ...
And yes its this company that didnt pull the plug so fast when they had ALL the excuses you can imagine to do so and not only that , AAA caliber games like TLOU and GT6 released few months before PS4 official release. Yes , the company one step from death , yes the console with the hardest time that ended up dead last. THAT ( caps to emphasize not rage ) my friend is what i call support and THAT is what nintendo never ever did from N64 and beyond with Wii and Wii U being the epitome of what i call MD ( middle finger )
So support doesnt mean great games for a year or 2 and then show the middle finger ... Support means what Sony and PS do since PS1 , game after game after game even when next-gen arrive under any circumstances let alone if you have 100+ mllion userbase out there. Thats what i call support.

Vita is not a console and yes Dear F god about Vita in general. But you are out of topic
As for PS consoles ... when sheep themselfs saying Sony first party is lacking and compared to Nintendo are a joke ... you cant do nothing else than laugh out loud.
@AzatiS: Nintendo's first party is absolutely better than Sony's. Your personal preference does not come into the question. They make more, better, higher rated, higher selling games.

1) we talking about if Sony consoles lacking 1st party titles in general or not ... and the answer is NOT.
2) Calling Sonys 1st party titles compared to Nintendos a joke = a joke of a statement itself
So , neither of those 2 statements can stand on their own , its your own opinion of it and does not come into the question . So please now , wanna have a debate with lists of games and see ? Lets do it and then tell me Sony lacking 1st party games or their games are jokes ... lol.
The company that each and every generation proviced NEW AAA IPS one after the other is a joke ? If you wanna talk with facts and not opinions im here , lets do it.
@AzatiS: first party can be lacking in quality, and Sony's most certainly does. Again, I don't care a rat's ass what you do or do not like, but Nintendo's first party is emperically better.

The other guys post were saying lacking 1st party titles in general which you agreed. Thats not lacking in quality. I dont care either what you do or you do not like but calling Sonys 1st party titles a joke ... roflcopter . You just showing your fanboyism and nothing else
I have a PS4 and a Wii U. My brother has a XBone. Even though I don't touch the XBone as very little of the MS first party stuff appeals to me (as yet - although Halo 5 will most probably change that), I still think that the PS4 and XBone have what it takes to cater to the mass-market. Nintendo on the other hand have cornered themselves into a situation from which there is NO coming back as a mainstream gaming player. Not only in terms of brand awareness but also in terms of industry support and momentum, together with first party IP that (on the whole) doesn't resonate with gaming audiences. As an example, GTA5 has sold more copies than every game on the Wii U combined.
Anyway, I talked about some of Nintendo's problems, and got to gripe about them here: http://prankster101.com/columns/youtube-fan-conventions-what-next-for-the-backwards-nintendo/
