If ps3 sells more than 360 in 2008, should lemmings start saving up $ for 720?

The 360 has approx 7million more consoles sold than the PS3.
If you compare last years sales figures then you will see that the PS3 outsold the 360. Even if you say the PS3 will outsell the 360 on a high average by two million consoles every year then your still talking approximately 3+ years just to catch up to the 360. (If they managed to outsell the xbox by two million then that would be a good year for Sony)
I know the first year sales between the PS3 and the 360 are close but i think the 360 just edges in front. If the PS3 second year sales cant beat the 360 second year sales by a wide margin then it might never catch up before the new xbox.
The PS3 has to catch up on console sales but it also has to catch up on software sales.
Sorry i could find the link i was looking at yesterday with the sales figures.
One would think so if paying attention to this forum in the past few days - almost seems like the SDF have the form letter topic and repeats over & over & over - Yikes :?Is there a random dumbass thread generator on these boards, where [insert fanboy] access it, grabs a topic, and floods the boards with bull?!?!?

Technically an electronics product should sell at it's strongest in it's 1st year, and then weaker in the subsequent years to follow. I expect the ps3 to outsell the 360 in 08, but will it surpass it's lead..I'm not sure. Price drops usually combat this cycle and are most likely inevitable.
Either way though the Wii won the sales war, and both consoles really took a big chunk out of the 120 million ps2 user base. I don't really see this enourmous ps3 sale surge coming. I bought a ps3, I had a ps2, wtf is everyone waiting for?
Well, in the end, Microsofts 2nd console will come in last, again. ThisCurse
Again?
What do you consider losing the "war" the amount of time the console is inproduction?,the amount it sells?profit?

I had all the Nintendo console and i loved each of them. The PS1 comes out and i dont buy a gamecube. Sony was the favorite system for a few years but that does mean people will just buy the next one. The only way to get the massive sales the PS2 is to match the PS2 sales price to the same level as the PS2 was selling for just before the PS3 came out. Even this wont work as the PS3 had no serious competition for years.
There is not 120million users. Am sure its 120 million PS2 sold.

i got mine, and you are right they did take a big chunk away from sony, but i still believe that the ps3 will outsell the 360 by mid to late 2010. i think the figures by the end will go something like this,
Wii: 90 million
PS3: 85 million
360: 75 million
the reason why i think it will be close is because now more than ever people own more than one console and will eventually own all of them at one point or another, i had a 360 but dumped because of hardware issues and believing i seen the best they have to offer. i got PS3 due to great games this year and blu ray. i will get a wii because my wife said so.
i hope people aren't stupid. no,people wont get a system just because sales r picking up. im set in my decision, i got a wii and a 360, and will be getting my ps3 when there's a fair amount of GOOD exclusives (kingdom hearts 3, god of war 3, FFXIII). and that wont be happening till 09
Not really. Even if the Xbox360 comes in last place, it is still a good console with very good games. And it will also have more good games in the future.kentaro22
i agree 100%

Wrong, MS will drop it just like they did original Xbox owners. Just like they do with software customers when a new version comes out. If they come in last place they will drop X360 and there will be no future games. MS runs it's business on pushing people to the newest release. That's just how they work.

2010 will be a five year lifespan, tbo I'm hoping MS won't try to milk an extra year out of it but I'm thinking they will wait until 2011.

Next time you go to Bestbuy ask them for a desktop or a notebook with Windows XP and see if you can find it. Look at what they did to original Xbox owners. MS has no problem dropping huge amounts of customers. They do it everytime they release a new product.
edit: I don't know when they will release a new Xbox though, just saying when they do they will not support X360. They will want you to get the new box.

The 360 is much more popular than the original Xbox.

Why is that bad news? It seems to me that we are both on the same page here. They want to put out a new system with new games and not support the old one and I want to buy a new system and not have to worry that any dev resources are going into making games for a system I don't care about any more.Win/Win, at least for me. The rest of you can deal with your own problems.

I could not agree more - Nice. Also, aren't Microsoft still selling Windows XP?JandurinShhh. You'll kill his whole argument...He seems to forget that MS typically supports older operating systems for at least 2 years before they drop them. They even have a website that explains this.

When the PS3 first dropped they should have started saving there dollars, when they got the first RRoD, they should have traded it in for a PS3.

The next XBox console won't be out until 2011-2012. I'm just curious as to what media format they will us for it. I'm sure M$ is already working on it. Hopefully they will do a better job with QC this time.

You may want to get a new crystal ball. You opinion does not equal fact. :)
I don't think M$ is going to drop the XBox 360. They may actually keep this system going if it's still profitable. M$ really needs to get the price of the system lower then everyone else first. The Wii isn't going to get a price cut this year either, so this would be the perfect time for M$ to get their hardward at $250 or less. I'm still surprised they have discontinued the Core (Arcade) system. They need to get rid of that and get the XBox 360 Pro (premium) to $250 before the end of the year. They may also want to try a new bundle, like Gears of War and PGR4 included in the Pro.
I would just like to take a moment before I go back to replaying through Saint Row to thank Gamenux for once again giving us all the chance to say so many nice things about the 360.
Thanks man, you are one of the premere supporters of MS on this forum.

My God How many times does this inane argument have to be refuted? Well here I go again:The PS2 is a cash cow for Sony so why would they kill it off? They own all the components so were able to decrease costs to the point where they are making a profit while selling it for $129. The original XBox was made of all third party components which MS has no control over - therefore making it unprofitable even at$170, so of course they stopped production when the 360 began.
With the 360 MS owns the components and will be able to reduce cost in the same way as SONY did with PS2 and will with PS3.
Do you really think if the PS2 was unprofitable at this point Sony would still be producing and backing it?
The fact is PS2 is at this time subsidizing the PS3, why would Sony kill off what at this point is keeping them afloat.(but to some extent it may start backfiring as the PS2 is still more popular). On the other hand original Xbox at this point would be an anchor around MS's ankle. 360 after two years has become profitable on the hardware side, they will not kill it off immediately as it will subsidize the next Xbox in its first two years of existence.
The only reason the PS2 is still supported is because it is profitable, not because Sony loves you.

I think Ps3 would need to double the 360 sales which is near impossible, but may happen.. Since 360 still has that 1 year headstart they still have alot more consoes sold than PS3.
PS3 gamers need to start buying games as well, otherwise who the f**k wud wanna make exclusives for the platform if no1 buy games, it could also make multi-plat developers use PS3 as main console..

XP is supported until 2014
When Vista launched they actually made it where you could not get XP at all. Many business customers stopped buying computers, so MS was forced to back track a bit and now there are a few models with XP available, but it's only temporary. MS is forcing people into Vista and that is a fact. What makes most customers angry is that XP performs so much better than Vista.
"XP is supported until 2014", that just means tech support and critical updates. That doesn't mean you can go and buy it.
1. Software and hardware are two different things.
2. Most large businesses have an image they put on PCs, doesn' tmatter what it ships with.
2a. If a consumer replaced your XP machine with a Vista machine, he/she still own a copy of XP - he/she could technically install it on the new PC.
3. I'm sure you can't buy a new Mac with OS IX(just an example - it happens everywhere)
4. Support for a product is very important
5. Look at my first response.
1. Software and hardware are two different things.
Agreed, but MS did work original Xbox owners the same way they do they do the software business.
2. Most large businesses have an image they put on PCs, doesn' tmatter what it ships with.
True, but they will have to still pay for a Vista license or they are out of compliance. You can no longer purchase XP licenses.
2a. If a consumer replaced your XP machine with a Vista machine, he/she still own a copy of XP - he/she could technically install it on the new PC.
That is illegal, you cannot transfer an OS from one machine to another. Unless you are in Microsofts business licensing program , but you pay much more for the OS license, but you do get transferability. OEM licenses are purchased for that machine only and cannot "legally" be transferred.

Not sure about policy, but your still paying for license either way. What the company installs deosn't change that.

OK, but not if you actually purchased the OS seperate from the PC
