Those that remember what it was like to game in the 90s, probably dont give a crap about scores and sales.

Sucks to be a new generation gamer.

Nope, I remember looking at scores in magazines in the early 90s. Link To The Past was the highest on the SNES. Dead on, scores are handy ya know?

Scores aren't that handy. I would have missed out on alot of great games if I followed scores.

I would have bought a lot of crap without them! And of course, there's no law that says you HAVE to follow them... it's just of use to get an idea

Not everyone is busy with scores and sales.

I don't find it funny. Poor attempt at making fun out of QTEs and on-screen help or tips.

And ironically the original Quake didn't have any graphics options either other than changing resolution and screen size/brightness.

Haha I still do that. It's got to be one of the best ways to find good games along with today watching gameplay videos. If you know what you're getting, and you're interested in it then there's a really high chance you'll enjoy the game. I own hundreds of games, and have played thousands in my lifetime. I have hated about as many games as you have fingers. I buy my games by looking at the back of the box :P I'm never going to be naive enough to think reviews are actually going to point me in the right direction. If a game is uninteresting to me then even if it got 15's out of 10 across the board I'd still not find it to be very fun.

It felt really weird when I got MGS4 and actually had to read the manual again to learn everything. I was so used to current manuals I was surprised at how big it was too. There were actually more than 5 pages in the thing.

I imagine if Quake was to be done today, it would look kinda like Bioshock.

Just saw the video and man that is really sad.

I didn't even do half the crap that guy did in the end of the video and yeah that is the truth. Corridor FPSs that have no free roam or anything and DLC up the butt just to nickle and dime you.

Yeah, scores are stupid. Read the review and find out if its for you. Too many people look at just the number and base their decisions off of that. Well, hype mostly and scores second.

^ I second this right here. I wish they were good still, I am concerned about Doom 4 to be honest. I wish developers would start making really really good FPS again not this **** generic military crap. I am sooo tired of it, even battlefield, I jsut want to frag people with a ginormous flak cannon like in Unreal again, and nerd out with my friends.

Yea, but I personally feel their peak was the first Doom. The later games weren't as good or were more multi-player focused (the Quake games in particular).

This X1000000. When I opened Gears 3, I was so disappointed to see that there was no manual whatsoever. Hell, most games seem to have manuals that consist of only a few black and white pages now. Back in the day, looking through the colorful thick booklet was one of the best parts when opening a game case for the first time. Not only that, but they used to give the box a heavier feel that made the game seem to be worth more. I miss 'em. :(

What happened? Consoles ruined shooters.

Don't worry, give it 15 years and the console generation will be saying the same thing about the iPhone.

while playing quake, dark forces, ultimate doom, and duke nukem 3D 10+ years ago, I never imagined the obnoxious pretentiousness that would spawn from their fanbases years later and their condescension towards modern FPS games.
