If Blizzard actually manages to port Starcraft 2 to the consoles will it strengthen the already huge fanbase or weaken it? Well id just like to know your opinions about this and also I do know that Blizzard as of now has no plans on porting to the consoles.

Depends on a lot of variables. If they release their PC version as planned then later release a console spin off ala Starcraft 64, it'll probably increase it.

If they try to make it a PC/console multiplat at release arguably the game's quality could suffer, and potentially decrease the fanbase.

This is all based on speculation however.

Why would it decrease the base? The hard core Starcraft base, which from what I understand is huge, will continue to play it on PC with newer PC users that have come on board since the original game. So some console people may pick it up and try it out for console. But I doubt that it will keep the PC crowd that was going to buy it from buying it anyway.

Your options are so limited since it's going to increase/decrease. How about staying about the same? There may be ~100 people buying console version, but that doesn't change the fanbase that much. Remeber the Starcraft N64? I don't remember that doing so well.

Some PC gamers feel some of their classics (Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, C&C) have suffered being made for both PCs and consoles to the point where the game is simplified.

It actually would decrease it if they worked the game to work on consoles, which means the PC version gets gimped.  Korea gets disappointed and stick with the original Starcraft for tournaments.

don't worry about it. the game won't be on consoles so why even make a thread about it.

neways it will decrease it's fanbase because if an RTS is on consoles it will have to dumb down it's gameplay. look at LOTR and CNC3. There's no micro involved in those games.

If they dumb it down so they can put it on consoles, they've just lost a fan and i'll continue playing SC1.

ES3 was good despite being on PC and XBox. I can see the other 2 games and ES4 being used as examples though.

i think it would increase its fanbase but it could make it frustrating to play it so it could actully make people hate it

So long as the game is made with PC in mind, I don't see how it could decrease the fanbase by releasing it on consoles.

RTS games really don't belong consoles anyway. It's too micromanagement intensive and a controller isn't suited for it.

Listen, I'm starting to think no one here has played SC.

Fans of the PC series will not buy the console version for obvious reasons.

SC2 on consoles could draw in new people, but the game is just plain better on PC no matter what

PC gamers don't really care if a game goes console, UNLESS it gets consolized and chopped up and spit out. Thats the reason people care. So I guess my answer is a two parter. If it did go to consoles AND was consolized it would lose audiences. IF it did go to consoles in all its glory it would gain audiences. But I hate hypotheticals. It won't go to consoles.
