If Super Smash Brothers can get a 9.5; So can Left 4 Dead

And why do people keep assuming I hate Brawl. How many times do I have to say I agree with the score

Still happy with the 8.5 for Left 4 Dead, waiting for the PC review.

Super Smash Brothers is one of the funnest party games out there, which lacked a significant single player mode.

Left 4 Dead is the best Cooperative Game Out There, which lacks a significant single player mode.

Not saying it will, but people who are expecting low scored based on the "length" of a multiplayer game may be overlooking this.

I'd safely say the game deserves a 9.

Notice how I put the quotes on "Real", I'll say this once again: Brawl Deseved the score it got. Brawl has a single player, and so does Left 4 Dead, but anyone buying either title for any reason other than the multiplayer is kind of missing the point of both games.

I'm sorry if you feel like I'm attacking Brawl or the Wii System in general, since that was not my intention. It was to only draw comparisons. 

My point is alot of people here don't think so, and did not think so before it's release and were blindsided. 

I may not of compensated the standards between the systems, but I feel safe in saying that this game could get a 9.5 here.

With the amount of polish this game has, I'd say it has a very good chance at a 9, probably a 9.5.

Smash Brothers got the 9.5 over "real" games like Gears or Resistance 2. The sheep may be gone, but they still have one of the highest rated exclusives this year, with the exception of Metal Gear of course :D

Smash Brothers didn't need a convoluted story, a 10 hour campaign, or Spectacular Graphics. The Game was fun, and every aspect of it was polished to perfection and has mass replayability.

Do I need to point out what's wrong with that statement? 

I haven't had as much fun simply moving down baddies since Jedi Outcast, and Doom before that, but it will be interesting to see how GS rates a game that is just plain fun.

Does it have a story? No, but it wouldn't really benefit from one (it would actually bog down the multiplayer aspect), so should it matter?.

Does it have single player? Yes, as much as a game like Super Smash Brothers has bots to fight against, so should it matter?

Is is short? Not really, replaying the same level plays out differently each time, so should the linear level length matter?

Does it offer a massive, wholeistic package that includes a deep single player campaign, storyline, and the usual multiplayer (deathmatch, CTF)? No, but if it's amazingly fun, should that matter?

The Graphics were great, for the Wii. The Graphics for Left 4 Dead are Great, considering it's running on the source engine, and it looks beautiful in motion. Graphic Whores will disagree.

Brawl had a lackluster story, but it was there. Left 4 Dead has atmosphere; it can be both hilarious and frightening when you make it to a saferoom and see that someone has etched the words on the wall "You'll Never Survive" or "they're Bombing the City! GET OUT!". The simple act of walking past a body covered under a bed sheet is revealing; someone had to of covered up their friend's deceased corpse.

I don't care if the game flops or not, I just want the damn review to come up. It'll be fun to see hundreds of comments saying "Gamespot has no Credibility!" or "Overrated!" respectively.

comparing a fighter with a shooter

I'm sorry, but that game looks like the Average shooter with a sub par story. I looked at videos and screens, the graphics are crap compared to something like gears or even resistance too, and then people act like the premise is so unique and big, wow... Zombies,  big whoop. The features sound great on paper, but how many games were boasted for features and got bad scores?

 Sorry, when I get my 360 I WILL NOT, be picking this up.

I'm trying to compare the game's strengths and weaknesses. It doesn't matter that Brawl was a fighter, it still scored higher than game in other genres. 

Now if games had multiple scores, then it would be unfair to compare them. Like say Brawl got a 9.5 for being a fighting game, but overall it was an 8.5.

But that's not how it worked is it? Brawl got a 9.5 . The score could of been an 8.5, and the review could of been written exactly the same. Brawl got a 9.5 for being a great game. No matter how you spin it at the end of the day, Brawl, according to gamespot, is a better game than Gears or Resistance. 

However, now I'm delving into Review Scores and how trivial they actually are, and as much as I'd like to see Left 4 Dead get an AAA here, it's not going to affect me when playing the game. I just think it's fun to try and guess them :D

Good point. Here's why I think GameSpot will rate it an 8.5 and bog it down because its lack of a single player mode:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl can fit in the party or fighting genre. Either way, neither of these genres have ever had a huge emphasis on single player modes. Hell, GameSpot stated they hated playing alone in of their Mario Party games. Soul Calibur I didn't have that great of a single player campaign, but it still got a 10. Soul Calibur II had a more fleshed out one than Soul Blade, Soul Calibur I & III, but honestly, it boiled down to little more than killing people in different ways. Brawl, whichever genre you put it in, is part of a genre(s) that has never had strong single player aspects.

Let's look at Left 4 Dead. It's part of the shooter genre. Shooters these days have had a huge emphasis on multiplayer modes, but the single player modes are still strong. Hell, you could release a single player first person shooter, and it'd be okay. Look at BioShock.Single player party games and fighter games would not be accepted. In every FPS, you expect some kind of single player campaign. The ones that got 9.5+ have all had at least an above average single player mode. There's Crysis, Halo 3, The Orange Box, and, uh... I can't name anymore with 9.5+. Even Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 have had at least some form of a single player mode. Left 4 Dead has that, but I'm not sure how strong it is.

I thought Left 4 Dead was a lot of fun, but I don't think it really has a huge chance of getting 9.5 I definitely could, but I doubt it.

Case in point: Left 4 Dead is part of a different genre than Brawl, and has different expectations because of that.

L4D is a disappointment for horror fans. It's not scary and the zombies are stupid. Valve should of stick to endless violence FPS and let Capcom deal with horror games.redneckdouglas

Horror fans might be dissapointed, but for zombie fans, L4D delivers.

I personally don't think Brawl deserved the score it got. I think it deserves an 8.5, tops.

Between tripping and so many bizarre glitches I've encountered in multiplayer, the game just doesn't seem as good as Melee was.

There are too many that hate the Wii on here to be able to get a good opinion. The one thing both Lems and cows have in common is their hate for the Wii. I though the same thing when people are calling L4D the king of Multiplayer for the year. But it's was not really worth fighting about because you will lose more by shear numbers than anything else.

Even if the game deserved a 9.5, it's not really fair to compare a Wii fighter (or any fighter) with a 360/PC shooter.

Dont forget about standards and i think that Left 4 Dead on PC might score 9.0 if not than its robery (even if we agree that Pc have higher standards than x360 so pc game scored 8.5 > x360 game scored 8.5
