off topic Westwood was bigger than Blizzard in the early-mid 1990s. According to reports they were 5 or 6% of the entire gaming industry at that time.Bioware will be fine. They're such a large developer and they have other franchises they can rely on. EA will be peeved if it flops, but I'm pretty sure it won't.

Also there is a lot behind this project so for it to outright fail is pretty much guaranteed not to happen. Even if it ends up really lame there is a strong star wars and D20 fanbase that will still probably play it regularly.
Even assuming it does fail, it's not like this is the only project Bioware is investing in. Mass Effect 3 and other titles are coming up and Dragon Age 2 just sold more than a million copies so there really aren't any signs that TOR is the make or break game here.
At worst, the game will sell horribly, in which case I could see EA trimming the fat and fusing studios so Bioware's quality remains consistant, but I can't imagine they would just go "nope sorry, that's it, game didn't live up to everyones expectations, go find other jobs."
even if it were to bomb and lose tons of money, people still buy bioware single player games. ea wouldnt axe a viable developer of one area because they couldnt expand to another. at worst it would effect budget.
of course, its unlikely it will bomb. the combination of ea's marketing push with the star wars and bioware names will get a lot of people to try it out. i doubt bioware will make a niche mmo to turn away the majority.
They only need 500k subs to be profitable. http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/star-wars-the-old-republic/news/ea-the-old-republic-only-needs-500000-subscribers-to-turn-a-profit/a-20110203102848828093/g-20081021163120143024i5750at4Ghz
This pretty much.. and it's definitely going to get more than that.
No. YOu don't seem to know that Old Republic isn't actualy being made by Canadian BioWare. It's made by their new Austin branch. So if it tanks I can easily see BioWare Austin getting closed down, maybe along with Mythic (or at least Mythic will get another big reduction), but the canadian BioWare? Doesn't make any sense.Somehow whats happening here is similar to what happened to Westwood.

It was bad enough the first time :(.If it flops, off to another dragon age they go. :P
Progressively gets worse every time.

yea, the forums for ToR already exceeded 1 million active accounts. Not to mention Mass effect 3 coming this year too, they'll be VERY profitable this yearBioware will be fine. What other franchises? Mass Effect is reaching the end. Dragon Age's future doesn't look that bright after the second. SW tor is a huge huge risk and no, it will not be only EA that will be peeved. Bioware and EA are one after all, EA is not just a publisher, EA owns Bioware as well as everything Bioware makes.
I don't think this game is going to tank. Sure, there are some disappointing features, or lack of content, but for the most part I see this game being a success. I also see it as a stepping stone into a Mass Effect MMO. Mass Effect has the lore to pull it off, and I think Bioware can capitalize on that after Mass Effect 3.
Firstly, i don't think the game will be such a major disaster.
Secondly, they are backed by EA and have a very good reputation (regardless of the tripe that was dragon age series) with hardcore gamers. EA is like swimming in a heck lot of money, so no worries about (lol) an 'end of bioware'.
its going to be a huge let down.. will it be a abd game only time will tell but ALOT of folks are going to leave with sad faces tears and popped baloons from that circus.
will ti kill bioware hardly.. thats like saying a sherman can slay a panther with its reference short barrel...

i assure you that its never going to happen
[QUOTE="John_Read"]Ea already killed bioware :PkillzonexboxExplain how??Under EA, Bioware has started developing a record number of games in a short period. The quality (DA 2) is starting to decline.
They haven't 'killed' Bioware but Bioware at the same time isn't the same company it was during its prime.
Honestly, virtually nothing is actually even known about this game. Very much has been kept secret. Given that its one of the most expensive games in the hisotry of the industry (if not the most) with a budget thats been rumured to be as high as 300 mil, its not very clear where that budget is going. EA clearly has a lot of experience with MMO's, so I doubt its simply going to waste.
I dont think it will be a better game then Guild Wars 2, but I can see it being far more profitable.
The last MMO EA published was APB and it was a HUGE failure.Honestly, virtually nothing is actually even known about this game. Very much has been kept secret. I think TOR will be profitable but no where near what EA wants. You don't spend the kind of money they are spending to be middle of the pack in terms of profitability and 5th or 6th in terms of paid subscribers. They're spending top two money and it's unilikey to happen.

I meant EA Mythic, in the sense that they own a MMO dedicaded studio, and Warhammer online was profitable for them.
