To answer your initial question, I think no.
   Sony knows that they are competing in the world of video games. There are two main reasons I see as to why they touted the PS3 as a "super computer". One is that $500-600 seems like a lot of money to most people for a game system, but its not that expensive sounding if you are talking about a PC.
   The other reason is that they can get some great hype built up by saying things like "super computer" and "leap frogging this generation" because the general public does not understand computer specs and what they mean, so when they hear that, they think the PS3 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Wii and 360 that there is no need to own either if you get a PS3.
   All in all, its just marketing fluff. Every company does it.Â
