If the PS3 beats the PC in everything, but loses to Wii60 in games...

Has Sony accomplished their goal? They want the PS3 to be a multi-media device, and beating the PC would accomplish that. On the other hand, the Playstation brand has been known for games, and losing that would take a major hit. What do you think?

I'm not saying it's going to happen, it's just a scenario!

The PS3 gets rid of the PC, basically replacing it. The PC dies. However both the Wii and the 360 game sales cream the PS3's game sales, even 1 on 1. Has Sony done what they wanted to do by beating the PC, though losing to the Wii and 360?

This question cannot be answered because it is based on a scenario that's impossible to comprehend even in the theoretical sense.

PS3 plays the game. Developers makes them. Understand that concept.

PS3 replace the PC? No. Why would a hermit shell out $600 for a PS3 when they could buy the latest videocard or CPU for their kick ass PC?

Please bear in mind that 7 generations of of supposedly PC killing video game consoles could not kill the pc, that the PS3 would have any better luck is highly unlikely

Well if they did tat but still loss the console sales war, I don't think they accomplished it. They're main goal I think is retaining their industry lead over Ninty and MS.

lol, the ps3 cant even hope to replace the pc... the pc is is far superior to the ps3 graphic wise, since its technology evolves at blazing speeds, the ps3 and xbox360 try to keep up to it, but they never will meet up to the pc expectations, game wise the ps3 is superior on the Rpg and action games,(i forgot the actual word for it so action will have to do it)kind of game while the pc dominates FPS'/mmorpg/rts kind of game.
but in the bottom line consoles try to emulate the pc(especially current gen ps3 and 360) the only console that's going on a different direction is the wii, and while it cant kill the pc. i wont mention the wii here since it has a completely different target.

PS3 will never replace PC in anyway. I rather browse the internet, watch movies, listen to music, and play video games on PC rather than PS3.

PS3 will never beat the PC its that simple. Media Center PC's continue to outsell everything else intended to do such a thing. PC's are just a lot more flexible than any console at the moment, and will continue to be that way for years.

Then why try to speculate on things that are extremely unlikely to occur, I could speculate all day on what could happen if Microsoft bought out Nintendo, but I won't, why? Because it's stupid to even consider the possibility of such a thing happening at all given current circumstances

Um, no the PS3 does not get rid of the PC. Don't believe the hype, the PS3 can NOT do everything a PC can, and I would prefer to have a PC over any console any day of the week.

One point here, when you say the PS3 is superior in RPG games you mean just JRPGs right? Because, you know, the PC has vastly better RPGs than any that are available on consoles, Balder's Gate series (which are nothing liike the pale imitation series by the same name on the consoles) reinvented RPGs for its time, Torment, Oblivion (though I personally am not a fan of it), Diablo, etc, all beat any kind of RPG available on consoles, since they cannot be played properly on them.

I don't think PS3 will replace PC and I certainly don't think the games announced for the PS3 are bad. I think PS3 will be fine. They're going to get more exclusives/games announced as the userbase steadily grows.

To answer your initial question, I think no.

Sony knows that they are competing in the world of video games. There are two main reasons I see as to why they touted the PS3 as a "super computer". One is that $500-600 seems like a lot of money to most people for a game system, but its not that expensive sounding if you are talking about a PC.

The other reason is that they can get some great hype built up by saying things like "super computer" and "leap frogging this generation" because the general public does not understand computer specs and what they mean, so when they hear that, they think the PS3 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Wii and 360 that there is no need to own either if you get a PS3.

All in all, its just marketing fluff. Every company does it.Â
