Here's the theory:
So according to this article, E74 is on the rise since the NXE update released in November.
Here's a chart of E-74 error occurrences.
Ok, here's a direct quote from Joystiq.com :
Alternately, a more sinister theory is making the rounds on forums that Microsoft has changed the diagnostics of the system to report the Red Ring of Death error as E74. This, however, seems unlikely as many in our poll are still reporting RROD failures post-NXE.
another quote:
So, why isolate the E74 error? While Red Ring of Death is covered under an extended three-year warranty, those who get the E74 later than 12 months and one day after their purchase are forced to pay more than $100 for a repair.
It's like there's a mass murderer out and about killing 33% of the population of 360town. Everyone is ****ing in their pants. Everyone moves out of 360town. No one wants to live in 360town anymore. That means no more newcomers to 360town. No one like 360town UNTIL the mass murderer is caught. But he's too elusive. He can't be rid of. So to get everyone happy in 360town and get some new comers to 360town, ya gotta pretend you caught him. Just get some random dude, frame him, call him E-74, everyone forgets about RROD, and all is dandy in 360town. Everyone is happy, and everyone's buying 360's again.
Lol at my metaphor.
Anyways, I think it's a great plan from MS. everyone thinks rrod is gone, but really is just has a new name. they basically just lowered warranty coverage from 3 years to one year. save some money pretend you got rid of rrod. you win. Genius imo.
If you think this is untture please state why.
