Can't we just be gamers?meetroid8
I'll go with the OP on this one.
If you KNOW your stuff, and play enough games, you're hardcore.

People here look down on the term "hardcore gamer" but were deserve to be called something different than just a gamer since most people here know more about games and play more games than the average gamer lol.If we arent "hardcore gamers" then what are we?
Seriesly, I get dumber by the moment every time I see people misusing the word.

Maybe I'm just as dumb as he is but I think it is than. If I'm wrong about that, then I'll redeem myself by correctly your spelling of seriously :P

"than" is a comparative statement. "then" is a sequence. 2 is more THAN 1 1 and THEN goes 2. "seriesly" has a history here in SW. (can't find the original thread)Really? I dont mind when I do it :P lolI don't know about you guys, but I'd be mighty embarassed if I had to introduce myself as even just a 'gamer' in real life.

"Hardcore" has a loaded meaning which can be pejorative, elitist, or egoistic. It better for enthusiast gamers to be called either "core" or "dedicated" gamers. At least these terms do not have loaded meanings behind them.
My bad geez.If we arent "hardcore gamers" then what are we?

No prob. Not trying to be a grammar police here.
I just can't stand words being wrongly used esp. they're/their/there

Well, I prefer to lure people in by acting normal, then spring my quirkiness on them after getting acquainted.

Weird I just read it again and now don't understand why I thought it was 'than' to begin with.
i dont think most people who consider themselves to be "hardcore" gamers are really that hardcore.
to me the term would be like "otaku"(note that otaku is usually a very derogotive term and most people are not impressed in the least by it), completely obsessed with video games and anything to do with them(think collecting every version of the game sold, every poster, the cash-grab books, movies, tv-series, the "dolls/action figures", the OST, studying the every aspect of it, and generally overly-engrossing yourself with it).
OR
professional gamers. please, you "hardcore" gamers, tell me how to be more hardcore than a guy on a korean starcraft 2 pro team.
that being said, i play video games. i enjoy video games. i am neither a "casual" nor a "hardcore" gamer. i am a consumer who enjoys a product, and that product happens to be video games. if i must be titled, then "gamer" is more than enough to describe everyone. if you feel that you need recognition for the fact that you have a hobby that you spend your(at least i hope its your) hard earned money on, then i believe that "attention w****" is a better term. no one else cares that you play video games. it is not something to be so proud of that you spurt "im a hardcore gamer...im better than everyone else" unless you earn a living by it. playing video games is not an accomplishment, its a pass-time and a hobby.
just gamers. some are more informed than others about games.
no need to come up with a silly label for yourself

"Gamer" is quite a silly label on it's own as well.

Really? At least where I am, gaming has become so popular that we can pretty much assume anybody from the age of like 15-30 is a gamer. It's coming to the point where it's like tv or movies. Everybody does it.

What? It's quite an embarrassing term. Not one I would ever use to describe myself, especially not it social occasions.
I really don't care what anyone is, as long as they're having fun. If you have fun in Farmville, by all means have fun. I know I play Zuma, Bejewled and Angry Birds (the first 2 on LIVE) and I don't care cause I enjoy it. I also own over 80 games too. But no one should ever judge anyone on what they play, the end result for gaming is to have fun.

You should never be embarassed to play games. I classify myself as a nerd all the time, saying I love to play video games and read. It's not a stigma, enjoy yourself. (edit: can't post 2 messages in 2 mintues? What stupid...)
The way I see it is ............
Hardcore - Plays really often. Really into his/her games. Plays long hours. Most likely owns multiple platforms. Substants over everything. Includes niche gamers.
|
Core - Average gamer that plays often. These are the people developers should be aiming at because they are a perfect mix of mainstream and hardcore.
|
Mainstream - Plays games occasionally or plays games often but sticks to popular games like COD, Madden, NBA. "Bro" gamer type. Flash over substants people.
|
Casual - Barely plays games. Sticks more to the kid friendly, ultra basic gameplay games. Plays social/party games when given the chance.
Definitions are loose but I think you should get the idea.
Gaming is a large part of our lives, and we hate the direction it's taking because companies try to cater to people who don't really give a crap about gaming in general.
But then if gaming was still perfect, we would still whine on the internet.
What exactly does "hardcore gamers" mean?. All i know is that some people consider only playing "mature" titles makes you "hardcore".
sheep are casual gamers. lemmings are xbl arcade gamers because kinect sucks or they would like to at least be casual gamers since they have no games. and cows, they are the hardcore gamers.PinnacleGamingP
This is exactly why the term hardcore gamer is looked down upon on here. Because of knotheads like this, and this kind of "logic".
