i think WOW is $15  a month. For 1 year it is $180. Now for 1 game you are going to pay 180. PS3 gamers really have no excuse over free online because $50 is not that expensive per year expeccially when compared to WOW.

Go figure, huh?  Then again, WOW is probably the most widespread addicting game ever made, so I can see why the price is higher to play.  Once you start, you're hooked.  See what happens when one company has total control?

Because WoW is an MMO that uses dedicated servers, not peer-to-peer stuff and it isn't going to get shut down 1 year after you buy it.

WoW's playability is dependant on the people you meet ingame.

Hermits are are self owned just by playing it. They should play GeoW on the 360.

Why in every thread mentioning WOW does someone have to lie about having played the game than growing bored of it? I am a WOW player and will never talk trash about it and I do realise it is a life sucking game!

??????????? That might be true? It was for me, I have played it for 8 months or so, now I cannot go back to WoW anymore, I have simply grow tired of it, it was fun while it lasted. But anyway that isnt the point of the topic, but not everyone lies when they say that. Ofcourse people can grow bored of WoW ... :|

It depends. I only play 3 times a week, at least 2 to 3 hours each time. I normally just go in, do a dungeon, pvp and log off. in and out. Then again, I know the meaning of self control. The same cannot be said about those who consider WoW an equal to life.

That's one of the reasons I never bought it. The other is I dont like the cartoony look of the game.

People can get bored of WoW. But that has nothing to do with this topic at all, or most of the WoW related topics. People will just come in, bash WoW and run off, like it's some sort of achievement to hate WoW. And yeah WoW is super ex (for me). One of the reasons I have to quit :(

None of the two things are a rip off. You are paying for two completely different things. Take FF11 on 360 you still have to pay the fee ontop of your gold subscription. These things cost money to keep running so no they are not overpriced. If you think that is the case then dont play WOW or buy Xbox gold.

Because not everybody that plays it get hooked on it. Also, when Blizzard claims they have 6 millions players they obviously count all the people who made trial accounts during the one free month offer trial that was released a couple months back. I played and it was boring imo. Not everybody has to like WoW.

It's 8 million and this is how they measure subscriptions:

World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

Blizzard > all. If Blizzard ever said.. "we only make games for ______ platform now," then I would only need that platform. Oh, and that's why I own a PC that runs everything from Warcraft 1, to World of Warcraft.

I don't think it's overpriced, I think "The Price is Right".  It's just the lemmings saying that 360 is more casual friendly which I don't really get.  Cause honestly I just wanna game online and I don't wanna pay to do that, oh and also I need a wireless network adaptor which comes in built-in with ps3 so for me it's much easier to game online on the ps3 rather than the 360.  Also, the reason it isn't as casual friendly is because if people just wanna play games to have fun or to pass time or something why pay extra to do that?  I can understand for marketplace and stuff cause those are online stores but paying for subscription just so you can play online?  My brother hardly plays video games I mean he plays them but hes not a hardcore gamer and we have a 360 and the only thing he plays is halo 2 against me and that's it.  He doesn't even like gears of war, I do because i've played online and he doesn't even care he's not willing to pay extra just for getting the most out of the game.

This is what I think about xbox live its not expensive its just...why do I wanna pay extra to get the most out of a game I already paid for?

wait.. wait... is that some fanboy logic? cause by your standards... WoW has more sales than even the 360 had in its first 2 years. (as far as I know) also, WoW was released on Nov. 4, 2004, but I quit in July '06, however, I played the stress test, and was hooked (litterally, I spent almost every waking hour on the message boards, waiting for open beta... it was sad. very sad.) anyway... LOL @ fanboy logic.

WoW is expensive, but it costs a lot to keep games like that running.

My only beef with XBL is that it is hands down the worst online community ever.

I havent played WOW but I have played MMORPGs so here is my opinion. They cost more because its an entire online world that has been created. One map with 20 players in a FPS cant come close to huge world with 10,000 simultaneous players. The servers have to keep up with all of the players information like armor, weapons, quests, friends, gold, and many many other things. At the same time these servers are allowing hundreds to thousands of battles all at once, and its keeping track of farming and fishing and crafting and things like that.It provides all of this as well as new updates that you dont have to pay for (you do have to pay for expansions though). Not to mention paying people to be mods in the world when things are getting out of hand. All of this is alot more then Live provides for all of its games.

WoW is a lifestyle (life sucker if you so want) not expensive to play if you think of that you have no time to play/do anything else than WoW. If you not played Wow you probably bought  1-3 console games instead and that is expensive compared to the monthly fee for play WoW ^^

WoW you play for dedicated hosted servers, which all MMOs require, and you will pay these fees on consoles too (with some rare exceptions like Guild Wars which works differently).

XBL you pay to do things you can do for free on PC.

Sony actually was far from the first to start charging monthly fees for MMORPGs with Everquest. Ultima Online in 1997 really galvanised that.

WoW has dedicated servers. XBL, to my knowledge, is peer-to-peer.yodariquo

not all games are peer-to-peer on the 360 BF2 just for an example has a designated server as do many other games

i think WOW is $15 a month. For 1 year it is $180. Now for 1 game you are going to pay 180. PS3 gamers really have no excuse over free online because $50 is not that expensive per year expeccially when compared to WOW.

$50/year for XBL gets you a peer-to-peer service that you should get for free.

$15/mo for WoW gets you a game with dedicated servers, and persistent words with thousands of players per server.

The joke will be on XBL players when decent MMORPGs actually come out for it... $50/year + $15 month.
