Poll If you had to be stuck with one family of consoles forever, who would it be? (poll) (134 votes)
You get one family of consoles and they're entire backlog. Who do you pick?
PC IS NOT AN OPTION, this is consoles only.

Nintendo is the easy choice. Their old consoles are way more fun to go back to. I think Sony is hurt by not having anything older than the PS1. Early 3D games are pretty rough.

While it's true 3D games have aged badly over the decades, their are some that I think are worth revisiting that didn't suffer 3D age badly, those games be, Mega Man Legends/2, Ape Escape, and Chrono Cross are all classics to replay.
Since PC is no option, I assume I can still have my PC and only one "side console". If so, the choice is obvious: Nintendo. Its exclusives and its portability are a fantastic fit for any PC user.
However, if I weren't allowed to play on my PC, I would probably go with Sony.
The one that I can hack and run unsigned code on.
OG Xbox is great for running all sorts of retro games. X1 is great for running all the old xbox games in a modern way. XSX might have a Windows mode for new PC games.
Playstation with its few exclusives just can't match the value proposition. Heck Nintendo has the upper hand of PS in terms of exclusives.

I picked one but that would suck. Eventually, one or two gens are gonna suck for that console family.
I feel like Playstation keeps trying to be more considerate about the gamer, so probably Playstation. I'm not that into Nintendo games anymore as a primary console, and Xbox chucked out features left and right from the Xbox One to chase those Sony sales which says it all about them, just business first no matter the cost.
I would probably say Nintendo, they generally offer an experience that is different enough from "regular" games.
I game on PC, and I bought a PS4 that I haven't touched after playing the disappointing exclusives. So PS is a no-go. Xbox rarely had any exclusives worth owning an xbox for, plus everything is coming out on PC now.
Nintendo is the only thing I've never really played since the N64 days, so I suppose I have some catching up to do.
As Arch and Conan said, if I can keep my PC the Nintendo all the way, there’s little overlap in games and some of the console’s first party exclusives appeal to me. If a console is the only gaming option however, The PlayStation has the broadest library and decent enough visuals (not 2 generations behind with jaggies as Nintendo likes things), and those 3rd party JRPG’s I love. Not a fan at all of their 1st party movie games though,
I can't pick just one. Nintendo and SONY probably come up as my first two choices overall, but MS has had some of my favorite games of all time. I'm glad we don't have to choose :) That's my answer.
Also, SEGA is great and all, but I'll count it out (if I have to count out anyone) since they are no longer in the console race. Also, of the 4 (although I loved the GEN) it's my least favorite. Although I still really like it.. lol. Why pick one when you can have all? That's my take. Life is too short to limit yourself to certain experiences and since you can't take it with you when you're gone, you might as well enjoy it while you have the time.
So for that reason I chose other.. even if it's skirting the rules a bit.
PlayStation easily wins. Each PlayStation had the best 1st and 3rd party games while Sony always created new franchises each and every gen.
Nintendo sucks because they stick with the same franchises over and over and just port them with an added gimmick. It’s really lazy. I can honestly say that if you played 1 Nintendo console, you basically played them all...well N64 and up anyway.
The NES/SNES are overrated.
Sega LOL
Microsoft LOL
Real tough choice between Nintendo and Xbox but I think I would have to go with Xbox as I don’t think that I’d want to go without some of those awesome third party games such as Resident Evil 2 Remake, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, etc.
Nintendo makes games you can go back to and play years later that haven't lost their charm or value... I feel like Sony and Ms produce games that get stale after a year.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask are prime examples I love revisiting older Nintendo games and even Golden Sun/Lost Age have all aged well, they're fun to replay those games. I always feel that Nintendo knows how to futurproof their games well enough to replay them again in the distance future.
Love Nintendo, but I couldn't stick with them as my only console. Need 3rd party games along with great exclusives. So playstation is my pick.
@Litchie: Right you are! Lol, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the poll results.
I figure the main reasons someone would choose Sony over Ninty is based off of hit and miss decisions the company still makes, and preference for strong AAA third-party support.
@TheEroica: I agree with you about Nintendo making some games that can stand the test of time (though maybe not all of them.)
I'm not so sure Microsoft and Sony games are all trash within the year. Many have stood the test of time. I think Microsoft just tends to focus too much on multiplayer and incremental upgrades to series', and Sony tends to make movie games and games with alright stories but little replayability.
Nintendo is the obvious choice. They have the largest back-catalogue of brilliant games that are endlessly replayable.
I can't imagine being a Sony-only gamer. I'd probably try it for a while, then give up and find a different hobby.
None of these systems offers enough on their own.
So you would have access to thousands of games no matter which one you chose and yet one can not offer enough? what do you play 10 different games a day or something?
I didn't vote but I would take Sega first and MS second, Sony's games are for casuals that much is clear and Nintendo don't offer enough adult content.
I have said it before to me Playstation is the modern successor to super nintendo. They should have just made that console nintendo and stay with 3rd party devs. The ecosystem that 3rd party games built on playstation is tough to miss. If pc is not option. Its very close between nintendo and playstation.
Easily PS. SNES had some really good games but that’s not enough. Sony’s investment in PS VR clinches it.
Playstation. I grew up on the ole PS1 console and I think it has some of the best exclusives. Feel the same way about the PS2.
