Which would it be?
FRUITY
or
GRITTY

I dont know, i prefer realistic looking games... that are set in fruity environments.
Like oblivion, is that fruity or gritty? Beautiful landscapes but not cartoonish. I like games that look like oblivion.
Depends on the gritty.
If you mean Stalker kind of gritty yes, as it still has colour. If you mean Killzone 2 kind of gritty, no i will take fruity.
Stalker is very colorful, its not that gritty honestly...

This is the point, a game doesn't need to be grey and brown to be gritty. Its more about overall atomsphere and bleakness, and in that respect Stalker is very gritty.
I prefer color as opposed to no color.

This. And context of gameplay is important. You don't want a MAfia game to look like a water color painting, not do you want a family-friendly platformer to be all greys and browns.
And colorful =/= "fruity".

When I think of gritty I first and foremost think of presentation rather than atmosphere.
Depends on the game.
Also, I wouldn't call STALKER gritty. Walk around in the Swamps or Agropom at day in Clear Sky and tell me it's gritty.

Depends on the time of day. :P The Zone can look pretty at times, in a macabre sort of way.
very few games really sit on extreme ends of the spectrum but if i had to take one, i will take the colourful look
Fruity if it's combined with a great art $tyle I mean Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts is far beyond what any other cartoon game looks like this gen imo. It makes you happy, and cheerful just to explore the environements.
Gritty adds a lot to the atmosphere of a game in some cases. Take a game like STALKER for example. You'd lose all the atmosphere if it was a bright and colorful world given the theme of the game.
Neither $tyle is really a preference to me though. It's just that in some cases you need one $tyle over another, and I'd say 99% of devs realize this, so I can't imagine I'll ever come across a gritty game with a rich atmosphere, and think to myself "Wow I wish this game was bright and colorful"
It depends how they combine it with the artstyIe.
To me, this is like Metroid Prime vs Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Both have amazing artstyles. I personally prefer Metroid's, "gritty" lonely environment, compared to Mario's happy colorful environments.
I like both equally, but i picked color as its the colorful games that usually give me the "wow" moments when first playing them, Kameo being a prime example of that.

Looks like a bit too much color imo. The best looking part of the picture is the rocks and the water imo.
Does Shadow of The Colossus count as "fruity" or "gritty"?nervmeisterI haven't played SotC, but from what I've read and seen, it's rather gritty. Your this guy who is killing these magnificent creatures to save one girl's life. It's definitely not all rainbows and butterflies.
And that final boss fight...
[QUOTE="lundy86_4"]
I wonder if... You could combine them? :o
It really depends on the type of game.
pc-ps360
u should play bayonetta
*barfs* I take my statement back, I don't want a combination of both. I'll play both types of games, gritty and err fruity lol.
Who the hell would want to eat a cereal called Gritty Pepples?nervmeisterA real man would 8).
