OK, that chart shows the PS3 in third place. SUCCESS!!!!1111
i give up people here just wanna say what they want. all im saying is, do u knuckleheads see that red line way above the green one in recent months? Its called catching up.nippon_gamer
Your graph isn't showing what you want it to. You showed the sales since launch, it isn't the same time frame.
Here is all sales over time. See how the 360 is still ahead of the PS3? And they are basically sloped the same? PS3 doesn't seem to be gaining any ground.

Cows dont want to admit it, but PS3 sales are purely because of PS2 brand loyalty.
If MS had PS3 specs and PS3 launched with 360 specs a year sooner, MS would be dead now. SOny brand power kept PS3 afloat this far.....and everybody knows it.
What is the actual ps3 sales figure, cus some people say 15 million, which i dont belive, and some say around 11-12?scottiescott238
It is hovering around 15 million, little less, little more.

Its exactally how i see it, alot of people get teh console for a game taht is soon coming out, for example a few of my friends brought a ps3 for gran turismo 5 back in 2007 thinking it would be out this year, LOL

Wheres the source for this, the only one i could find is next gen wars, which says its at 11 million, apparently they use npd and chart track data as well?

All it shows is that the PS3 is selling better than the Xbox 360 did at that time of its lifespan. Unfortunately in the real life, the PS3 came out a year later and as a result, is still far behind.

Im pretty sure VGChartz does update their information when Media Crate and NPD figures come in. I have no idea where their getting their Europe numbers though. Im pretty sure Sony themselves said. I'll try to do some digging around.
But if next gen wars says 11 million, i guess we could assume that the actual figure is anywhere from 11-15 million. But neither source has really had a good track record.

your saying that 3 to 4 million behind is far behind? It has a pathetic choice of games, thats all that matters right now. I don't care about 2009, 2010, 2011, etc. Right now, its garbage and a total disappointment. Spent 600 bucks to play MGS4, Uncharted, Resistance, and Disgaea 3. Whoopee.Cloud_Insurance
I would have said this, but I'd have been a little less snide about it :)

your saying that 3 to 4 million behind is far behind?actually its around 5.5 million. stop defending what doesnt deserve to be defended.
your saying that 3 to 4 million behind is far behind?GARRYTHAre you saying 3 to 4 million is a small gap? That's almost a quarter of the number they've sold this far. How and when are they going to make up that ground?

Well, I own a PS3, have since launch day. I also own a 360. And so far its been surprising but the 360 has had a significant advantage in the games department and thats all I care about. I don't give a crap about review scores, everyone enjoys different things. That said, 360 has the far biggest variety and overall game library this gen...so it "wins" in my book. The PS3 has been absolutely nothing like its previous incarnations, which satisfied strongly from the very beginning.
Going into this gen I thought it would the be same as previous ones. Sony's console would be my primary console, I'd get MS's console just for a few excellent exclusives (as I did with the original xbox and before that the N64). Turned out to be the opposite.
The 360 need to completely stop selling while the PS3 need to keep it steady in sales. But in reality the 360 will never stop selling making it impossible for the PS3 to "catch up" and pass up the total of 360 sales. And thats just the way it is.
It sales well because of the blu-ray player, AS a gamer i can really see no reason why i would buy a ps3 over a 360scottiescott238its all about preference, i prefer the ps3 over the 360 because of games like mgs4, god of war, and other ps3 exclusives. even though i own a 360 also, i play my ps3 a lot more.

I agree. I determine it by me buying every important multiplat on 360. Better online/Achievements and the community features are much easier to use. I would judge by exclusives, but I really don't like many of the PS3 exclusives unless you count MLB The Show...and maybe Uncharted. Wasn't a fan of MGS4 or Resistance.
Also doesn't help that my PS3 was purchased mainly for FF13 and Tekken 5/6...which I don't even need a PS3 for anymore.

your saying that 3 to 4 million behind is far behind? So why is it that when it comes to sales, PS3 fanboys say "we're catching up" and "its only 3-4 million behind" but when people discuss the games not selling well, then its "teh install base is smaller"??
Someone needs a reality check... do you know how dominant the playstation brand was 3 years ago?
they had to screw up monumentally badly to convince the millions of die hard fans of the brand to all realize how badly it sucks compared to the competition. Just look... even after all theyve done they still have lingering fans. Thats called a hell of a brand
but theyre throwing it in the garbage can

The only way the PS3 is going to pass up the 360, is when MS introduces a new console already, and the cycle will continue of Sony playing catch up. Third place is good enough for Sony this gen. We all accepted it already. Just aslong they come up with first place exclusives thats all that matters.

Then you're not much of a gamer.
As a GAMER I can see a clear reason why I would buy a PS3 (and did). It has worthwhile exclusives that I can't find for my Xbox 360 and as a GAMER I enjoy playing everything that I have an interest in regardless of the system it's on.

when was this 10 mil lead? Pre-Europe release, cos Sony screwed its European fanbase AGAIN? Of course it caught up in its launch cycle :? But since then it really has failed to make any big inroads. Its sold slightly better than the 360 this year, but only slightly.failure? how come? can't say that a system is a failure until it actually fails..right? one example of a failure would be the dreamcast. BTW you guys cant even see how much improvements the ps3 has. when the xbox planned to upgrade to HD dvd and then they discontinued it.. that is a failure.

That's your opinion. I sold my PS3 when I didn't play it for 2 months straight...what was the point of keeping it when I was always playing 360. Am I any less of a GAMER? If you played all the great games on the 360 and the PS3, how would you have time for anything else? People can have a preference....although fanboys take it too far. I didn't play the PS3, but I know it still has quality games, I just prefer the 360.

uh no, definitely not. The PS2 launched (here in the US) in Oct. 2000.
Ico - not commercially succesful but an amazing game - released in Sept. 2001
Devil May Cry - Oct. 2001
GTA 3 - Oct. 2001
MGS 2- Nov. 2001
Gran Turismo 3 - July 2001
Tekken Tag Tournament - Oct. 2000
Jak and Daxter: PL - Dec. 2001
Ace Combat 4 - Oct. 2001
Final Fantasy 10 - Dec. 2001
Those are among the biggest games of last gen in their respective genres and all were available less than 2 years after the PS2s launch here in the US...
