...making a game?

if you had to work on a brand new IP game (so don't think of your halos, metal gear solids, marios.), how would you distribute the time into each of the following categories to make it a successful game?

for example, if i gave you only 100 points to distribute, how would you distribute the points?... so lets say the more points you place into audio category, means the more time your employees will spend in the audio department.

Categories:

Visual presentation (graphics, menus, camera angles, etc)
Story (script writing, character personalities, etc)
Design (levels, quest, puzzles, etc)
Audio (music, voice overs, etc)
Gameplay (offense, defense, combo moves, animations, etc)
Multiplayer (game types, ranking systems, etc)


For me it would be:
VP - 25
S - 5
D - 10
A - 10
G - 35
MP - 15

It depends. I've always had ideas for a single player shooter that would go like this...

Visual presentation: 15%
Story: 25%
Design 25%
Audio 15% with an emphasis on VA over music
Gameplay 20%
Multiplayer 0%

Fully destructible environments, hundreds of thousands of particle effects, particle physics, thousands of global illumination lights (includes particles), the best dang lighting you ever done seen, 15k polys for character models, etc.

The goal of the game would be to... Can't think of anything. Probably just release that in a patch or something.

100% of the time of audio, basically what I'm saying is I would release an album and charge 60 bucks for it.

40 % of my time will be invested in story

40% in gameplay

20% in graphical/visual department

I'll then hire somebody with his/her own points who will spear head everything else and run his/her work by me for the final word. :P

What the... you'd spend as much time on visuals as gameplay, and work more on multiplayer than single player? You're TRYING to appeal to the masses right? :lol:

Nah if you wanna make money you need multiplayer, the true market lies in the blood thirsty casuals..... and they love multiplayer.

In my ideal game I'd do what you did, move 10 from Design to Story, and 20 from Visuals to Gameplay.

No MP in this game. Har, Har.

In short, most of my time will be in the Design, Audio (more towards the soundtrack, gotta get Jesper Kyd on this,and voice acting), and Gameplay. Hopefully I can get some Ex-Biowarewriters to work on the story for me. =P
