VHS to DVD is bigger jump in tech than DVD to Bluray. move people bought PS2 because it was a cheap dvd player
they should add the wii with ps3 and 360 against xbox gamecube and ps2. then it might be worth a story

Actually, the 360 is only about 4.5 years old, and the PS3 is only about 3.5 years old.
IGN, man, that's a sad article.
However, I don't think either machine will fare well being the tough economy these days, and the high asking price when this generation started.
How did the Wii fare in all of this, after all, the Wii is the same age as the PS3...IGN, good job IGN.

But it had the worst graphics of last gen... graphics = everything. No it did not, the Dreamcast had the worst graphics of last generation.[QUOTE="felipebo"]
Seeing as how the PS2 is the best console ever made, handed down to us by gods, I'm not surprised.

That being said, there was some real graphics beauties on the DC, PS2, GC, and Xbox.

The console with the worst graphics was the first console to drop out last gen.
Can the dreamcast even be considered last gen? It came out in 1998?[QUOTE="Slashkice"][QUOTE="Fightingfan"] Anyone else notice the console with the worst graphics always wins?Fightingfan

Can the dreamcast even be considered last gen? It came out in 1998? you could say that a gen only starts when sony says so. according to that logic dreamcast is last gen and 360 is too (i belive the wii came out after the PS3 so they are safe)[QUOTE="Slashkice"][QUOTE="Fightingfan"] Anyone else notice the console with the worst graphics always wins?Fightingfan

I'm going to keep this simple.
The Sega Saturn was the rival of the PSOne and N64.
The Sega Dreamcast started last generation, which was followed by the PS2 a year later, and the Xbox and GC a year after that.
As you might know, the DreamCast came out earlier in Japan, but the Dreamcast launched on 9-9-99 in the U.S.A., not a hard date to remember. That's also the date of NIN's The Fragile as well.
Anyways, No one else can notice what the myth and you said regarding the PS2 being the weakest Hardware last generation, since it's simply wrong.
Not a big deal though, people forget about the Dreamcast all the time.
It doesn't mean that the consoles SUCK nor would sales indicate that at all unless they were extremely low. I don't understand how this is a laughable subject seeing as how both consoles have sold well in the millions.
You also have to look at the fact of how many consoles this generation are selling compared to last generation which was completely dominated by the PS2. While this generation may be dominated by the WII, both the ps3 and xbox 360 will break the 40 million mark. IF you added all the console sales up at the end of this generation you will probably get a similiar number to those of the last generation in overall sales of all consoles combined. Xbox sold 24 million UNITS, xbox 360 is almost at the 40 MILLION mark (That's getting close to double the amount sold as the original xbox)
Wii is at the 70 million mark while the gamecube only sold 21 million units. (That's about 3.5x as much as the gamecube)
so why is the PS3 not selling as much as the PS2? Because a lot of the consumers who had a PS2 bought Wii's and Xbox 360's instead this generation.
What you're seeing is Nintendo and Microsoft doing way better then they did last generation, and the only way they can do better is if they are taking sales away from sony because there is only so many consumers (Consumers that are dividing a lot more then they did last generation) This doesn't mean the PS3 is selling bad either it just means that it's selling worse then the PS2 because the Xbox 360 and WII massively cut into the PS2 numbers this generation.
Look at it like a piece of pie. Sony had 6 pieces of pie, nintendo had 2 and microsoft had 2. Nintendo then stole 2 pieces of pie and Microsoft stole 1 leaving Microsoft with 3, Nintendo with 4 and Sony with 3.
While this is not exactly accurate this generation it's a good way of explaining how it currently is.
3.5+2.5=6years. PS2=5years. Your way it would be 11 years combined. What? When he said neither console, he was referring to the 360 and PS3.[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Neither console has been on the market for 5 years. /threadLOXO7
I think the videogame industry is dying. We should make the best of what we have now guys. :(Mr_CumberdaleIt's actually quite the opposite, if u think about it we saw in this Gen a BOOM of new gamers they might not be hardcore but the gamer style is being change to more casual, the industry is growing but in a different way
Blame the economy...wolverine4262
this doesn't explain the wii though. i'm pretty sure that the combined wii/ps3/360 sales are more than their previous gen at this time during their cycle. and it's mostly because of the wii.You know, we were/are in the worst recession since the Great Depression...Contrary to what people will tell you, the gaming industry is not recession proof.

It's not talking about just the 360 or just the PS3. It's talking about together. The article is sort of tricky this way. It says the 360 and PS3 combined, which is their sales and years combined...and it's more than five years. But seprate. Don't combine wrong now. Like 35 million sales don't combine to 35 million years. That would just be silly.[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Neither console has been on the market for 5 years. /threadtwitchmonkey399
Ign is full of morons they completely forgot the economy is in bad shape if it wasn't for that games and systems would of sold much, much more. After five years the PS3 and 360 combined have sold fewer units than the original PS2 had after five years on the market.
