IGN burnout Paradise review (8.8)

Burnout Paradise has its share of flaws, but it's also incredibly fun. The change to an open world brought its share of issues, like having to use the map as a crutch to get around for a while, but it also allows for freedom unseen in any recent racing game. Most importantly though, Criterion has once again delivered a racing experience that can best be described as controlled chaos, one where even crashing is immensely rewarding. If you're even a remote fan of racing games, be sure to check this out.

It just doesent seem like traditional burnout to me.

I'll probably buy it when its a bit cheaper - even as I am quite the burnout fan.

burnout has just gone silly now....

i hate the new demo, burnout 3 was gold to me, revenge was like a nosedive into rubishness. i dont understand why though! the game just seemed so much worse, but gamespot said otherwise.

hell yeah, 8 cars online is where the real action is. but no splitscreen is a shame.. but i don't mind.

Lots of racing games came out without splitscreen. Dirt, Motorstorm, Formula 1. Don't know about Forza and pgr because i don't have 360.

That is lame and I thought it was Motorstorm I was thinking of.....

Well any racing game that comes out without splitscreen has one less customer from me...Because I just will not buy it

I WISH Motostorm had Split screen - let alone a quick race option.

PGR and Forza did have split screen.

yeah PGR 3 & 4 are probably the best split-screen racers this gen

So PS3 based games Motorstorm, Unreal Tournament III and Burnout Paradise don't have split-screen...

Is this just an embarrassing coincidence ?

I dunno. It would have been better just to have an arcade mode and a free style mode. Bunching them together just makes for an unuesal experiance. Burnout was one of the racers (hell, any genre) to just be straight out racing... nothing more, nothing less.

Unless to make that level of graphics they just could not do it with split-screen, they just don't care or they don't think enoght people use it to make it worth their wild

I don't think it has to do withhardware limitations, I've played the campaign in Gears of War in split-screen co-op and it was one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had in a while.

Perhaps it just comes down to laziness, like developers creating 5 hour games and trying to compensate it with online multiplayer, which is a practice that should stop immediately.

No split-screen, no buy for me, it was the first time Im truly interested in Burnout, but this small feature will keep me form buying the game.

This reason also kept me from buying UT3, I think developers are forgetting about the standard features about games being fun for the whole family which is multi-player split screen, these kinda games supposed to have multi-player as a standard, shame on them.

Agreed, I don't know WTH developers thinking by dumbing the split-screen?

Unfortunately, Casuals are the victims, they are gonna buy it not knowing whats missing.

I agree with you totally. I expect certain things from a console and offline MP is one of them. if i wanted only online MP i'd just play games on pc.

I give em credit for daring to add new elements to the franchise. Keeps things fresh. I just hope I'm not running around forever looking for a race. The online is pretty amazing in how it just instantly turns on without leaving the main game. Very innovative.

Before this thread I didn't know that this game didn't have split-screen multiplayer. That's just weak.
