"The combat system is so simple it exists on a single button. Press X and you attack. That's it."

Thanks for the self ownage. Combat looks crappy and shallow. Even Naruto has better combat.

Wow, I mean WOW, did you not read the entire article? At the end he stated, and I quote "I can see the potential for Fable 2 to have one of the best combat systems to date"

you really did not read it did you? He said it exists on a single button, but can throw together very different variations of combo attacks and coutners, he said it has the potential to have one of the best combat systems to date

Thanks for the Self-ownage

What a suprise, Turgore using geek language ("Self ownage") and can't manage to read half a page.

If you would have carried on and not acted like a 9 year old you would have found this:

"While your melee weapon is linked to the X button, there are dozens of variations you can attempt. Combat is largely rhythm based but, unlike many games with similar systems, the range of the timing seems fairly broad. Pressing X, X, (hold) X and then releasing creates a different result than X, (pause) X, (hold) X and release. To help players feel the rhythm, drums begin to pound when you string combos, signaling times to press the X button. It's an almost tribal experience. And though the drums are initially jarring, their beat melds into the ambient noise quickly. It wasn't long before it felt as if the music were in rhythm with my button taps and not the other way around. Blocking is also done with the X, simply by holding. This also powers you up for an attack, but each time you parry that charge is instantly dissipated. So you can't block and then suddenly released a powerful strike.

Counterattacks, which require some timing and (as Molyneux pointed out regarding my play) a little luck, offer some visual panache. Landing a counterattack (hitting an opponent just as they begin to swing at you) leads to brutal execution-****moves. The camera snaps to a dramatic angle, time slows for a few seconds, and our hero performs one of a variety of moves. In just ten minutes of combat, I witnessed more than a dozen different flourish moves. One had our hero slam a bandit against a brick wall with his forearm, breaking his neck, and then shoved his sword deep into his gut. Another was a simple backhand that actually looked utterly humiliating for the opponent."

I don't think it's that great. Offcourse there also is magic and ranged but I think it will be too much like a buton masher.

Noooo they stole my rhytm based combat idea!
Seriously though, i can't seem to think of anything that isn't being put to use somewhere. There are just too many humans on this planet. Creds for doing it. It could be a nice addition to future games.
I have played Fable. I have heard stories of being able to play a female. I'm interested.

Sounds promising. The combat in Kotor didn't use very many buttons, but it was still amazing. You basically selected your enemy, and attacked them. Simple, yet fun as hell.

I really dislike molynex: He always talks about how amazing and hes game will be like a real life andyou can do anything you want.

But then when its finally released it just a game above average.

So they are using single button combat for this game. Figures. I wonder how the magic and range will work out. Maybe they will have some combos to them as well? Also, I wonder if they are adding more environment interaction like how they showcased in the video from before.

Sounds promising, but I learned from the previous Fable to not listen to the hype. I don't think I'll be reading any more about this game.

I did enjoy the first Fable, it wasnt revolutionary, and it didnt change the genre but it was a fun action rpg. I can't say whether they will deliver this time or not, but I can say one thing, I am intrigued about the rythm based combat system.

I will have to see it working, if it only uses one button could be a good way to control a sword with a wiimote, considering it can be swinged as part of the context the article speaks about. I think the context may be annoying if it is not done right, a long time has passed but I think I can remember the hero in Fable saying "hello" with this hand while a couple of hobbes attacked him.

Beside of that, this is the fable 2 manual: "Press X to win" (I had to say that)
