The Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 was the #1, as expected.
The Dualsense was rated #5.
The Dualshock 4 was rated #3
The Series X version of the Elite Controller gonna be buriful, lol.

How stupid must you be to put DS4, an abomination of a controller over the DualSense, the first well made Sony controller?
Nice to see the DualShock 4 at number 3. I even invited it to receive my congratulations personally.
Sadly, its battery ran out before it could get up on stage.
C'mon we all know (even cows even though they won't admit it) that Xbox controllers 💩 all over PS controllers.
Its not even an opinion its fact.

Playstation controllers are the preferred controller for fighting games.

Mine drifted away.
£160 for an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 controller!
I would never pay that amount just for a controller.
@SolidGame_basic: What those niche games where devs have to hold fighters back and sell them in " fighter passes" so they can make money from the games, well ok lol.
PS...what was the last fighting game Sony made for its fanbase???
I really want to get an Elite 2 for PC gaming. My only problem is the horror stories. That's a lot of bread to drop on a potentially faulty controller.
If I see a good sale though, it's over.
I'll invest in a Xbox Elite controller when the industry addresses this potentiometer issue they have ignored for years.
I have yet to try the Xbox Elite controllers, the Xbox Series X|S controller, or the Dual Sense but so far my favourite controller has been the Xbox One controller followed closely by the Switch Pro controller.
What if the next version of the controller has swappable analog modules?
Considering how expensive the Elite controller is, this is something that should've been a thing since the first version.
I had an elite 1 for my xbox one S. (4k blu ray player and forza 7 gaming machine). It was a great controller. Dualsense is better though.
For standard pack in controllers the DS4 is king IMO. Haven't had a chance to try the ps5s controller though. Although like usual I'll say all modern day controllers are damn good minus the pro-cons, WTF was Nintendo thinking, just God awful.
Imagine if you used an Xbox controller, you would probably be able to play games lol.
All preference, but I do agree with Elite 2 at #1.
Weird that they put Dualsense that low, even below the DS4, but admittedly I only used mine for about two weeks.
Never tried that Astro controller, looks cool tho.
On the GameCube Wavebird:
"It may not have been the original GameCube controller, but it’s hard to separate our fondest memories of the console from how great the WaveBird was to use."
Oh f*** you, IGN! I swear, I can't wait for November and the press will pull an "Eric Andre with a gun, and asking who killed his victim" on that console, just like much of the internet has.
@nintendoboy16: Ummm...what?!?
Just calling out IGN playing to the revisionist reception on the GC crowd! And referenced this sketch (which has become a popular meme on human hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness):
My personal favorites atm are the Series X controller and the Switch Pro controller, never tried the Elite controllers though.
Lets fight over preferences and opinions. 😎
Right? Opinions are like assholes in many ways. Everybody has one and lots of them stink.
@nintendoboy16: Yeah...was that supposed to be comedy or...you know what never mind it's adult swim garbage better left alone.
Even if you don't like the sketch, many of the memes it spawned are gold!
@i_p_daily: I have both. I use xbox one controller on PC. It works fine for what I play on there, except it's a little weird trying to press on r1 or l1. All I'm playing right now is FFXIV and the xbox controller would be horrible for that game.
Doesn't surprise me that elite 2 is #1 for as much as it cost. It also has a built in battery. All good quality controllers have built in batteries.
Never tried nor want to spend that much on Elite 2 controller, but I'm sure it appeals to many enthusiasts out there.
Both the Wavebird and 360 controllers were the best controllers I've held on my hands.
Ignorant article the number one controller is easily the wii as it shifted over 100m units and was so easy to use.
It's all subjective, but the list is embarrassingly lacking in controllers with good d-pads. The late genesis/Saturn controllers belong on there above the SNES one (which DOES have a good d-pad but not as good, and it is less ergonomic and has fewer buttons), at least - even if you preferred the SNES console itself
Listing $200 controllers as number 1 seems a bit strange, but also makes sense. I feel a top 10 like this should be stock controllers.
I wonder why SONY hasn't done any kind of elite controller... I have bought 2 Xbox Elites and will very likely get one for the Series X as well.

Dry list. Nearly all of them are so samey, using the same template. Where are the arcade sticks, joysticks, light guns or racing wheels? And where is Sega? The 6-button Mega Drive controller and the Saturn controller are two of the GOAT 2D controllers.
Eh, a lot of those would unfold into long lists of their own, have a more specific appeal, and the defining differences would go "woosh" over most gamers heads. I also doubt IGN has anyone on staff who could tackle those without simply parroting someone else.
And in the case of arcade sticks, kind of whatever at this point. More about the parts, less about the branded box. If you like Japanese sticks/buttons, look for something with Sanwa, Hori, or Seimitsu parts. Like Korean levers, look to Crown or Fanta. From there it's all preference. Size, weight, features, aesthetics, ease of modding, price point, etc. Dozens of top notch out-the-box options these days, so ranked lists are always silly. Mad Catz established the standard and it blew up from there.
Agreed on the Saturn pad tho. Still the best dpad of all time and a great button layout.

They want clicks, so of course they're not going to add Sega controllers, and besides they're probably too young and were in nappies when Sega was doing its thing.
What a stupid list. No PS1 or Sega Saturn controller? Both were the apex of d-pad gaming. But most that list is this generation or last. And the Switch Pro controller is better in every category than their competitors this generation. The first to use USB-C, the first to use HD rumble, the largest battery life, most ergonomic grip, most comfortable thumbsticks. Yeah, okay.
