IGN MGS4 Preview from a "Non fan"

This preview should give non-MGS fans a look through the eyes of someone that's - admittedly - one in the same IGN

Still, despite being a bit rusty in my MGS ways, today's playthrough captured my attention again, as Metal Gear Solid 4 is one hell of a game.IGN

As mentioned, the demo today harks back to the TGS version we played a while back, though it's now fully in English, and contains some stronger AI.IGN

I decided to open up on a few soldiers to check out MGS4's revamped combat control. It's a huge leap in the right direction, using the same over-the-shoulder RE4-like camera, with the additional option of rocking a more classic "auto-aim" function for MGS purists. IGN

From my very brief stint with the game, however, Metal Gear Solid 4 is already very impressive, and a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.IGN

Everything from the smooth controls to active camo system (which can display over 100 textures in the game) and RE4-inspired aiming hooked me within just a few minutes, and now I'm stuck wanting more.IGN

As far as I'm concerned, MGS4 is already shaping up to be the best Metal Gear since Solid.Take it with a grain of salt, but it's the first game in the series to really hook me in nearly a decade, and there's something to be said for that.

Maybe there's a grain or 10 of truth in there, and maybe that's what gets to you.

Being blindly pro-American without knowing why is the reason other countries hate America. If you care about your country, stop being ignorant. It's one thing to hate what America was FOUNDED ON (impossible, you freedom haters!) and another to hate what it currently stands for.

Anyway, off-topic, this will get locked if we carry on like this.

You are oversimplifying a complex story. The concept of a dark organization within the US government that uses evil tactics is not an insinuation toward America. The "bad" group represents the greed within men. If you understood the reactions of the main characters, you would know the director's stance on his own story. The main characters are fighting against this symbol, and they are both Americans, trying to protect the idea of freedom behind America.

You don'thave authority to tell me what I know. I know that MGS is a story with a theme based on the struggle between freedom and order. You don't bother to understand any part of it, so why should you judge it either way?

Its basically the only game that actually takes advatage of the things PS3 has. So far most games look better on 360, sixaxis is basically crap on every game so far, and online play is less then what we see on Wii.

MGS4 changes most of these things even if this may be the only game to do it.

Well, I can definitely say that you've never gone online with the PS3. The Wii can't even come close to the PS3 in online gaming, and the PS3 is far behind the 360.

the wiis online play isa joke, and i have no problem adding people to my friends list, inviting them to games, and no problem with connection speed on my ps3

The sixaxis in heavenly sword was also awesome, most fun ive had with it yet, though i havent played warhawk, graw2 or folklore yet.

I'm definitely looking forward to the game. Can't wait.raynimrod
