Fallout 3 is one spot too high, but yeah sure New Vegas over Fallout 2, I'm not necessarily disagreeing too much. I'd rather go to bat for Fallout 2, but New Vegas is terrific. Fallout 3 is lame though.

Yeah, that was cringeworthy.

The engine and gameplay in NV are indeed bad. But man, that world building, and the general writing. The world buliding in Fallout 2 was rather inconsistant compared to Fallout 1 and New Vegas, but still far more coherrent than Fallout 3.

Why is Shelter not the superior #1?

They have good taste putting New Vegas as #1. A world class game.

Pretty good list, but I would have Fallout 1 higher and Fallout 3 lower. I even liked Tactics more than F3.

what was the story is vegas? oh right, it doesn't matter because it was so forgettable. but dont worry, there is tons of empty brown spaces for you to walk through.

What was so bad about Fallout 3? I had always been under the impression the Fallout fanbase loved FO:3 and hated New Vegas, though personally I love NV and haven't played 3 so just wondering what made it so bad. I know the gameplay is mostly similar in NV and 3 with the usual buggy and crappy Bethesda style, (though I love it still) the story I assume is a little better with Obsidian developing and I assume also writing? Usually there isn't a huge difference in characterization of the NPCs between Bethesda games, (similar voice actors that get the job done and lame companions) but I'm not sure. Other than that what make 3 arguably the worst of the main four games?

I came here expecting FO3 to be at the top of the list but was pleasantly surprised.

I still think FO3 is shit, but wandering around the radioactive wasteland in full 3D was just so new at the time. For once I actually agree with one of IGN's lists.

Honestly, NV wasn't as great as people make it out to be. I honestly think people praise it because it's Obsidian and not Bethesda. The writing was good, better than Fallout 3 even, but not on par with other RPGs in the world and certainly not on par with the writing of Fallout 1 or 2.

Never thought Meta was all that. My opinion is the be all end all for MY MONEY and gaming TIME as I am sure yours is.

Well, I did enjoy Vegas, except for a nasty game-breaking glitch that forced me to restart after more than a dozen hours played. I believe that was the first time I had ever encountered an irreversible bug in an rpg like that. Unfortunately, none of the several saves I had kept were far back enough.

I remember the glitch was documented online, so I knew there was nothing I could do. Otherwise, fantastic game. I never tried the old PC games, hopefully one day I will.

That's about how I would have ranked it. New Vegas was my favorite as well.

Because its called roleplaying. There is no set story, its like the first two fallouts.

Fallout 3's story is memorable for how moronic it is.

Fallout 3 isn't terrible in the slightest. But it isn't a properly Fallout game. I think the IGN order is pretty spot on.

Fallout is pretty shit all around, but at least New Vegas was bearable thanks to the absence of Bethesda's clown car of writers.
