Poll IGN-STUDY SHOWS MORE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN BUYING NINTENDO SWITCH (57 votes)

Scorpio be the hot item to get this holiday season 30%
Switch be the hot item to get this holiday season 70%

BY HOPE CORRIGAN A recent survey has revealed that more people are interested in owning a Nintendo Switch console than a PS4 Pro or the upcoming Microsoft Project Scorpio in the U.S.

The Nielsen Games 360 Report reports that, from a pool of over 2,000 participants, 16 percent of gamers aged 13 and up said they would probably buy the Switch, while only 15 percent said the same for the PS4 Pro and 13 percent for the Scorpio.

The report is a U.S. survey conducted yearly with the aims of researching how Americans are feeling about gaming and what products they are buying and participating in.

This trend held with members of the general population as well, with 12 percent interested in Nintendo's latest console hybrid, 11 percent looking to buy Sony's improved PS4 model, and 9 percent interested in the upcoming Microsoft console.

Nielsen's report does make a distinction between the PS4 and PS4 Pro, as well as the Xbox One and Scorpio, however, and including the currently available consoles from Sony and Microsoft dethrones Nintendo's lead. 21 percent of the gamer audience and 15 percent of the general public polled is interested in buying the standard PS4 console, while the Xbox One is next in line with 17 percent and 12 percent interest from both groups, respectively. That puts the currently available Xbox One and the Switch at an even level with the general audience.

Nintendo's new console has proved popular out of the gate, though, with 2.74 million units selling within its first month — causing Nintendo to air ship consoles to meet consumer demand.

The report also measured general awareness of all these platforms, noting that only 77 percent of gamers 13 and older said they had heard of the PS4, versus 27 percent for the PS4 Pro, 72 percent for the Xbox One, 29 percent for the Switch, and 14 percent for the Scorpio. 9 percent of those polled said they had heard of none of the above consoles.

I'm really Starting to feel sorry for MS. I think with all the hype for the Switch has pretty much dominated anything Scorpio related. Personally I think Scorpio is going to flop in sales this holiday season. I feel the only people who are going to buy that console is the current xb1 owners and PS4 owners will be buying up the Switch this holiday. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Flopio is gonna get completely rekt this holiday season. The hottest selling video game consoles this holiday will be the PS4 Slim and Switch. I keep telling lems that no one is interested in a mid-gen overpriced console with no exclusive games but the clowns don't believe me. It's gonna be fun watching them damage control when PS4 Slim and Switch steamroll the Flopio this holiday.

Pro and Flopio are niche consoles for the hardcore console gamers that care about DF comparisons (i.e. People here on SW). Your average console gamer or casual doesn't give two shits about 4K gaming right now or Tflops. They just want a cheap console with lots of good high quality games.

I don't know for sure which will sell more, but I'm more interested in picking up the Switch. Nintendo exclusives are too good to pass up.

Yeah, because 16% is such a HUGE amount worth boasting about and vs 13% such a HUGE margin....

Stupid Study, Scorpio hasn't even got a price or name yet or even released yet. Microsoft hasn't even shown a game running on this system yet or advertised to the casual gamer yet. It obvious only the hardcore gamer would know about it right now!

PS4 pro was half arsed upgrade it's not any wonder sales have not taken off.

REALLY?

Anyway, Scorpio has yet to have an initial reveal. Not to undermine the Switch, cos i'm getting one, but it's a bit of a lopsided study. The tempered interest in the actual Xbox One is just a no-brainer.

I mean, I'd hope that a fresh off release new console would have more interest than a yet to release console upgrade lol.

Still, it's not like those results are worlds apart, and as for the regular PS4/Xbone, the survey has them slightly ahead/even.

Also:

The report also measured general awareness of all these platforms, noting that only 77 percent of gamers 13 and older said they had heard of the PS4, versus 27 percent for the PS4 Pro, 72 percent for the Xbox One, 29 percent for the Switch, and 14 percent for the Scorpio. 9 percent of those polled said they had heard of none of the above consoles.

Kek. Who are these gamers?

Scorpio has not yet been officially announced, has no marketing, no price, no release date, and no awareness among the mainstream. I would hope the Switch has higher awareness, no fucking shit.

Let's wait till after E3 before we see how things are.

yea...it will all depend on E3

if the reveal is stellar.....it might outsell ps4 and switch in its launch month.

if the rveal is ps4 pro level bad then i think switch will win out...but i think it will outsell playstation either way this holiday.

The Nintendo Switch sucks compared to the Scorpio... Alls the switch is, is a neat toy or accessory to a Scorpio user.

Misleading title. That study could be skewed so many different ways (including gamers and general public, base PS4 and Pro, Base Xboxe and Scorpio -- also comparing platform recognition versus intent to buy/interest is a slippery slope).

This thread is bad even by cow standards. You're venturing into Protoss and Harness territory with this one.

As an addendum to the previous thread and posters in this thread contending that Scorpio has no presence in terms of interest due to marketing:

If people contend that Scorpio has no awareness, it says a lot about their marketing operation. They went straight to Eurogamer for a big to-do about the hardware. The same core audience that will be payi g attention to E3 has had a big flare gun popped straight to the heavens.

It doesn't add up. Especially when you consider that the Pro is post holiday bump and people are committing to buy in greater numbers.

And I, for one, remember very distinctly a humongous standing ovation as well as the ensuing witch trials back in 2013 precisely because gamers were perfectly aware of the issues leading up to that E3.

Where the core gamer goes, the industry follows. The myth of the unwashed/ignorant/silent majority has never bore fruit to the believer.

The Switch is more then likely to be the hot item because during the Holiday Season Mario will be out.

The fact that you are referring to the next Xbox system as Scorpio shows that even folks on this forum don't know enough about the system for it doesn't have a name and its actually Project Scorpio.

I'm not sure why you'd feel sorry for MS, assuming this accurately reflects people's buying interests. 36% of gamers over 13 are interested in buying a PS4 (of some type), 30% are interested in buying an Xbox One (of some type), and only 16% are interested in buying a Switch.

That said, it probably isn't an accurate reflection of actual purchases that will be made anyway.

Wow 13% is insanely high for an unmarketed console, when PS Pro is at 15%. Scorpio hasn't even been shown, or marketed on TV and it's practically at the same level as the PS Pro.
