I have to agree with their assessment of Contra Hard Corps. I never did beat that game the full way through (there are secret ways to beat the game). I made it all the way to the last boss (Colonel Bahamut) with Brownie and got him down to his final form, I think, and he always killed me then. Good GOD that game was hard (like squeezing your nuts hard). Pretty badass overall, but not as good as Contra III on the Super NES.
Oh, and Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts is a good pick. I HATED those flying demons that you encountered frequently around world 6 (I think that's the world). Those guys were FREAKING impossible to avoid, and only one weapon (the dagger that flew in a Z motion) was really that effective when it came to hitting them. Strangely, the bosses tended to be (relatively) easy.
They should put that LoTR game on the GBA in that list. Not only did individual battles take 10 minutes of mind-rotting monotony to beat, but there was a bug that prevented you from actually completing the game. If that's not tough to beat, I don't know what is.
Agreed. The 1st Megaman was a pain in the #@$%, but I finally beat it when I got older. Contra was hard as hell too, unless you used the cheat code. Smash T.V. was almost impossible to beat unless you had a few dozen quarters.

my half brother played contra growing up and has proved to me twice that he can beat it without losing a single life. and what was funny was we played halo after the 2nd time he beat it in front of me and just couldn't figure out how to play a 3d shooter.

I think the list is referring to games that were hard but still fun to play. Games like Ikaruga (and that other 2D shooter that was posted) are so hard that most players can't play long enough to figure out how hard they actually are.

What a bunch of rookies. Megaman 1 wasn't that hard who cares if you couldn't use energy tanks or slides. No game should have the energy tanks PERIOD. Hell I don't even use the special weapons unless I'm just F'ing around I think it makes the game to easy to use Boss weapons. Megaman Zero also isn't that hard what are these guys smoking!? Is Megaman really this hard for everyone? I always found the game kiddy and yes easy. Contra for NES I always found easy too.
The old school shooter games are hard but you can master them after enough plays. Me and my friend mindlessly played Darius Gaiden 2 for the Saturn so much we could beat it without using any continues. I think I managed to get to the last boss without losing a life and some people think that game is really hard. A lot of these hardcore shooter games are cheap quarter munching screwjobs.
hmm... I would certainly have the whole top 10 filled with NES games.... I think they kept the scope to recent and popular classics to make this more interesting. I totally agree that F-Zero GX was the hardest game of last gen... I am still sad that I never got to see the AX tracks locked away in that little GC Disc ;____;
to this day im proud to have beaten ninja gaiden black, that game was crazy, i hated that stupid second form of alma when she transformed into a scorpion, that figth was ridicously hard
Shinobi, DMC3, NG.. I must be the only person alive that didn't think those games where actually hard on the base difficulties. DMC3 only got difficult on Dante Must Die mode.... That's because I'm not grinding to get cash for health on easy. :p
How is DMC3 on there, that game was freakin easy, last boss and Beo were the only ones that were semi hard and I still beat Beo in 1 try and last boss in 2.
I never played NGB but I was under the impression and hoping it was harder than DMC3.
MDK2 was a hard one, I remember playing that game.

Yes! Awesome. I never had trouble with MDK haha. I'm the megaman master. I used to be able to do bubblemans stage in Rockman 2 with my eyes closed. I can also beat MMX1-6 in less than an hour, without dying. I have never beat contra hahahaha. I owned DMC3. Double SS baby! I love that article. Thanks for showing it to me.
