Didn't watch the video.
I agree with the sentiment that nostalgia can blind you, there's definitely some truth to that.
I still think BoTW is one of the best games ever made and thoroughly enjoyed the shit out of it. I'm enjoying TotK just about the same.
Just play whatever you fancy and have fun 👍.
But of course. It says Nintendo AND Zelda on the box, its an automatic 9/10 minimum. And you know this being true when Zelda SS was getting 10/10's.
edit: lol looks like he is mentioning Zelda SS😂
@vatususreturns: This clown says Zelda fans agree Skyward Sword is horrible while posting amazing fan reviews. Then dude says fans agree BotW is greatest game of all time, they must crazy. Wtf?
Dude states nostalgia is why people rate these games so good, yet Nintendo has the youngest fanbase and Critics are pretty young. LOL Fuckin clown.
Might watch later.
Nostalgia certainly has its effect, no getting around that. Maybe it can carry a new entry for some? Not for me. Would argue not for many considering how quickly most series will evaporate with bad entries. Sonic is bulletproof of course.
Tried playing Links Awakening remake leading up to TotK. Charming, cute, bored out of my mind. Pushed myself to dungeon 5 before throwing in the towel.
Don't even care for many of the past Zeldas anymore either. OoT absolutely blew my mind at the time of release. But a lot of what gave it that effect for me, ultimately surface level stuff. So many classics I still love revisiting as they're still blast to play. OoT, hard nope.
And again, while I haven't watched the video, gotta ask. How come nostalgia didn't save all of these other once renowned IPs? It's obviously not as simple as sailing by on good memories.
In the case of BotW specifically, far and away the best selling Zelda, pretty obvious that's a lot of new players. People who don't have nostalgia to go on. And considering BotW uprooted nearly every established formula the series had depended on since ALttP, the nostalgia would only be at the most surface level.
Nostalgia has its sway, silly to deny that. But also pretty dense to assume nostalgia nets you insane critical and commercial success. And tbh, bit of a smooth brain argument. An easy handwave to dodge critical thought, any real analysis of what a game offers.
@Maroxad: figured, what a clown channel 🤡
But I found his review funny. He complained about there being no story line and shitty graphics. Fighting gannon for the 100th time in skyward sword. This dude needs to climb out of his cave...Zelda is miyamotos baby, and miyamoto has hated movie games for 40 years. So its not even surprising the game milked bowser and gannon all this time. Imagine they actually went and created a new villain and new characters?? That would only happen once miyamoto has passed on from this world.
And shitty graphics part...what did he think, hes playing on a switch. The man even brought up his ps5. What a clown, the 9tflop ps5 is his low bar standard. If he at least mentioned the xbox series X I could give him some credibility.
Checked his other vids to see what's up. Holy shit he is milking the "woke" agenda in almost every video he has made in the last six or so months😅
Haven't played through TotK yet, but Odyssey was extremely simplistic and easy. Clearly it's a kid's game, but most of its fanbase are 40 year old millennials. Same goes for Galaxy. I enjoyed my Sunshine playthrough, however.
After getting 30 stars in Galaxy, I youtubed the final boss fight and ending cutscene and called it a day. I had no desire to chug through the other 30 or so. And I too am a millennial.
BotW was an average open world game imo. Nothing memorable whatsoever. It felt too empty and quiet for my liking. I beat the game and found half of the korok seeds and called it quits. Maybe if there were achievements I would grind them, but there's no bragging rights to obtaining them.
I've been watching user made TotK on Reddit, and the building and world look amazing. I'll be starting my playthrough soon.
@theam0g: You do know Nintendo released stats and most it’s fan base is under 20. So you were the 50 year old playing a kids game 🤡
Then why are all the dudes standing in line at the midnight release of TotK over 30 and overweight? 😭
I remember going to GameStop's Halo 3 midnight release. Half of the 30+ year olds were there to get Mario Galaxy (both released the same day). I was like dude.........
@theam0g: Representing the small fan base. I’m guessing you were the 50 year old waiting in line for that kids game Mario.
Im..... 35 😭😭😭😭
That Cleopatra show is garbage. Who cares if it's racist?
Yeah. Of all the things to worry about. He concerns himself with the most trivial. Much like with his criticism of TotK, his points are completley moot and he clearly doesnt understand what he is critiquing all that well.
I wish Nintendo could steal all their money as well. I hate that bandwagon "get outraged assholes" shit.
At the same time, the left practically hand it to them, they tend to be equally ridiculous while under the impression their shit wafts of roses.
Generally speaking, it would have been better if at the start of the Ukraine War, Russia did use that whale sized nuclear bomb. And we shot back. And it was the end of Terminator 3.
Haven’t watched the video yet. While nostalgia can certainly blind some it can also be used as a lazy criticism to try and negate why people might enjoy something. Personally I find games like Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey to be 10/10 games for me because they are simply just incredible games that are very well designed and executed. At the end of the day it’s entertainment and it’s highly subjective. Getting all twisted up over someone enjoying something just isn’t worth it.
1. I don't trust this fella
2. Nostalgia is real, but the idea that anything loved from the past being nostalgia is stupid. Some things from the past don't hold up, and some are better than what is offered now.
I think the more interesting question is, how can a review apply to everyone?
Now there's a contingent here that don't believe in ratings at all, but that's not the world we live in. Although I can see logic in that stance. But assuming reviews remain, who should they be catered to? The haggard vets, or the new class?
I touched on this with @GirlUSoCrazy, talking about what I would want out of a deeper, more dynamic Spiderman game. Having played so many games already, the game was boring for me. But a kid that's relatively new to gaming probably would think it's amazing. So who are these reviews for? And how old are these reviewers? Were they playing Super Mario in the arcade, or did those even exist when they were children?
I can't speak on Totk (even typing that pisses me off because it reminds me of tik tok) because I haven't played it, or any Zelda since ALttP. Hell, I haven't owned a modern Nintendo console since the SNES. So I wouldn't even know what to expect from a new game because I wasn't there throughout the other iterations. Would that make me more or less suited to judge the game?
Well, that was dumb. YT better not recommend me that shit now.
Yeah. Clicked on a random part of the vid, just to see. Landed on a string of objectively incorrect things regarding TotK.
There's actually some really damn good critique vids of BotW on YT. Thorough, factual, even the subjective stuff is well supported. TotK will get those as well. But this ain't it.
Of course nostalgia affects how u perceive things. I never like Nintendo stuff cause I dont grow up with Nintendo, and their products is usually a 7 at best.
On the other hand I put Bloodborne on a such high regard that if a followup ever appears I will probably try to defend every single thing, blinded by nostalgia.
... say that I highly agree with this video below, as someone who bought a Switch lite just to see what all the fuss about BotW and Mario Odyssey was, and slowly walk away...
You're the same dude constantly praising Sony's cinematic garbage. Go away.
Doesn’t sound like this is a particularly good video to watch. Seems like the TC came in, took a figurative shit, and left.
“I’ll just leave this here.” Indeed. 😅
Only Nintendo fans have nostalgia, especially for a game like Tears of the Kingdom, which is exactly like every Zelda game ever made. Do something new, Nintendo. Geez.
I mean he has a point to some degree. I can REALLY agree with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword as being over rated and just given good scores because of the Zelda name. (These two games are horribly average imo, ESPECIALLY compared to other games from their respective generations)
TOTK is a great game from the few hours I have played, but damn is the Switch starting to show its age. The frame rate dips, the jaggies, and overall blurriness that happens from time to time really does take me out of my play session when it happens. The menu system to me is still a little cumbersome, especially when it comes to weapon management.
But those complaints aren't enough to call TOTK a bad game or an average game. It truly is fantastic, but for me not perfect or in consideration for BEST ALL TIME.
Whoa you need to chill out. While it's true that BotW and its sequel are mid overhyped games, Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best Mario titles since Mario Galaxy on the Wii and one of the best 3D platformers to release in a long time in general.
@Maroxad: This channel has popped up in my YouTube algorithm from time to time. He has some shit takes. The Redfall/GamePass video from a couple weeks ago was alright though.
@Star67: It’s all individual opinion. I think Skyward Sword is great but a “lesser” traditional Zelda game, but Twilight Princess is a classic. A lot of people enjoy it more now than they did when it was first released. Even this site upped the score on the Wii U remaster to a 9, compared to the original releases’ scores of 8.8 and 8.9. I want to buy a Wii U again just to replay it. The dungeons and art direction were top notch.
But again, a lot of people would disagree with me, and that’s okay.
Sorry to hear you didn't like Zelda or Mario on Switch.
I would say Switch has Nintendo's best 1st party content in sum since the Gamecube. Although Gamecube, N64, SNES are all better.
I was told that there is no Nostalgia for Zelda games and that they are always evaluated as brand new IP.🤷🏽♂️
He's a Sony fan. Where are his threads when snoozefests like TLOU score 10s across the board lol?
Whether he is a Sony fan or not, overrated games spans across several games and companies. I just find it funny when folks pretend that Zelda and Mario don't have favorable bias.
