[QUOTE="bobbetybob"][QUOTE="3picuri3"] [QUOTE="f50p90"]You obviously havn't seen the gameplay3picuri3
what? the barrel rolling? protection from bullets via rusty old barrel? or is it the adult magazine snake can read? or.. hiding in dumpsters with ai mobs 2 feet away while you hold the lid up 10 inches - with none of them even glancing.. ? or is it the camo suit that gives you a poor disguise anybody should be able to see? or is it the killing mobs by grabbing their junk?
it might be fun, but i wouldn't go counting your eggs before they hatch. gameplay doesn't seem all that great to me to be honest. could be wrong though.
Wow at least know about the game first, killing people by grabbing their junk? Yeah you really kill them...and hiding in a dumpster with the lid open 10 inches? What would you prefer then, that you have to open it with the analogue stick and if you slip and open too much they spot you and then it's a waste of time? And as for the camo suit, are you just stupid, I don't know about you but I don't think the idea of controlling an invisible person in a game is a great one really, oh wheres my character, ahh I don't have a freaking clue. Trust me I played SotC with the invisible cloak it's impossible to use.
maybe you don't kill them, but the fact there is a groin squeeze move, adult magazines, and all this other hokey gameplay stuff i just don't think it'll score well. let me explain a bit more.
i feel like mgs4 is trying too hard to pay homage to all the previous ones. it includes all these hokey gameplay elements that just seem a bit lame given the technology we have today to work with. it's just depressing that kojima is so focussed on all of this camp stuff when he has all this potential to work with.
i'm kind of torn though, part of me thinks it's neat he's doing it - the other part just thinks it'll flop because of it. given how much better the game looks i'm just thinking these weird elements might not fit so well, but i guess it's the game people have grown to love. can't mess with it too much.
either way - these are my reasons for thinking it'll never get AAA here.
an asthetic nitpick like that is not criteria for rating a game. as a gameplay element, it only needs to work, to not be broken, and to serve a practical purpose to the player. squeezing an enemies junk has the same result as choking him or throwing him to the ground: *player knocks enemy unconcious* end of story. it doens't matter how it's done, as long as it serves it's function in the end.
MGS4 wouldn't be paying homage to the previous games through this, this is just the way MGS has been. crazy, weird stuff. but people need to step back and objectively look at how the gameplay works and achieves its end, and judge that. personal objections to the asthetic means are a different category.
if the crotch-grabbing was twitchy, glitchy, unresponsive, or served no practical purpose, that would be means to mark it negatively. if it is just a simple button press that works within the standards of polish to this game, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.
adult magazines serve a practical purpose, to freeze enemies in place for a period of time. it's not much different than "freeze attacks" in other games that temporarly immobilize enemies. same function, but with a different face on it. that's all.
a dumspter would offer concealment in a real battlefield. if the AI wasn't responsive when you saw it, there is good reason for that. it was a highly scripted demo, that was supposed to go exactly as planned. they can't afford to be spotted too soon while demonstrating all the stealth aspects to an audience. that first gameplay video is over six months old now, and subsequent videos have shown better AI more in line with today's standards. they are aware of their enviorment, and can spot snake if he isn't particularly well-hidden.
