The thing that will hold MGS4 back from being AAA is the fact that the online doesn't come with the game and because it will be LOADED with cut scenes.

That didn't seem to hold MGS2 back, now did it?

Not even playing as Raiden held it back.
The gameplay looks the same for the most part with a different setting.

Yeah, no. Octo-Camo and re-made shooting that is now similar to games like GRAW and Gears speak otherwise. It's simply a game that is remade, retooled, and very fun to play according to people who have played it.

The mighty Greg K. reviewed it, and while he didn't reveal Raiden, he thought that his inclusion was a welcome change. I thought the same. The hate for Raiden is so overexaggerated. He wasn't all that bad...

Yeah now that you think about it he wasn't that bad, but I rather have played as Solid Snake in some instances. Maybe if they switched off.
Looking forward to him in MGS4, he looks so badass
[QUOTE="3picuri3"]isn't MGS4 multi coming separate? for additional money? or did they scrap that idea?niall077
it comes with MGS4 with 5 maps. more maps will be DLC and down the line
there could be a retail "MGO sub" with more maps on the disc, but it hasnt been confirmed
or atleast thats my understanding
ahh, the last i read they were speculating about it coming earlier than mgs4, like prologue, but i guess that changed.. was a while ago.
an asthetic nitpick like that is not criteria for rating a game. as a gameplay element, it only needs to work, to not be broken, and to serve a practical purpose to the player. squeezing an enemies junk has the same result as choking him or throwing him to the ground: *player knocks enemy unconcious* end of story. it doens't matter how it's done, as long as it serves it's function in the end.
MGS4 wouldn't be paying homage to the previous games through this, this is just the way MGS has been. crazy, weird stuff. but people need to step back and objectively look at how the gameplay works and achieves its end, and judge that. personal objections to the asthetic means are a different category.
if the crotch-grabbing was twitchy, glitchy, unresponsive, or served no practical purpose, that would be means to mark it negatively. if it is just a simple button press that works within the standards of polish to this game, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.
adult magazines serve a practical purpose, to freeze enemies in place for a period of time. it's not much different than "freeze attacks" in other games that temporarly immobilize enemies. same function, but with a different face on it. that's all.
a dumspter would offer concealment in a real battlefield. if the AI wasn't responsive when you saw it, there is good reason for that. it was a highly scripted demo, that was supposed to go exactly as planned. they can't afford to be spotted too soon while demonstrating all the stealth aspects to an audience. that first gameplay video is over six months old now, and subsequent videos have shown better AI more in line with today's standards. they are aware of their enviorment, and can spot snake if he isn't particularly well-hidden.

in an ideal world of course you're right - but i was being a bit of a realist. look at reviews on major sites and see what makes or breaks some games, it's ridiculous.
i was also speaking in generalities about the zany gameplay - i know the move is obviously a substitute for any other 'subdue' or 'knock-out' function - my criticism was more on the way it's presented, not how it functions. i also fully realize all mgs games have been wacky and out there in many respects - and i acknowledged that in my post. i just feel the game will be more of the same to say it bluntly, and less innovation. given the cell / ps3 + kojima together the expectations are through the roof... my point is i don't think they'll live up to it (i could be wrong) and i feel it will be because he was too focussed on these weird aspects instead of trying to bring the game up a notch, bring something new and exciting to it.
so in short - i don't think the reality will fall short of expectations because kojima would rather do the same things again (semi low brow gimmick moves - i say gimmick because they are just basically different animations for functions in many other games .. as you said) instead of trying to really push the possibilities with the new technology... i mean it's going to be depressing if that 50gig bluray is in fact just filled with HD Audio, and not due to the game being some massive sweeping epic that will blow everyones socks off (like it should be).
and please don't try to explain away the gameplay to me - they're easily countered, and one could argue Kojima made it that way because Kojima made it that way :P i mean he is a fan of slapstick, and MGS has always been zany. no sense in trying to rationalize it - it still seems hokey to me :) that's not necessarily a bad thing.
What ever it gets I don't care(I never depend on reviews) I'm buying this game it looks great the gameplay has been changed the graphics are awesome.
And online doesn't effect the game, I can think of a lot of games that get AAA and don't have online play. And saying if it gets AAA in gamespot then they are PS3 fans is pathetic, just like when the PS3 fanboys saying the same when their games flope that's just Fanboys talk.
Wow, lots of desperate attempts to bash this game. Some people take this SW thing way too seriously, because MGS4 flat-out looks awesome.

what gives you the idea he won't push boundries in this game? what makes you think it's just more of the same? (just asking) we've barely seen any of the game. we've only seen one level of the game, which could even be a red herring in itself.
[QUOTE="_KenKittyragi_"][QUOTE="Arjdagr8"][QUOTE="_KenKittyragi_"]I think there is a 50/50 chance of AAA or AA. The game will probably get a con for being a lot like the other mgs, no online, short game, etc.Arjdagr8
what makes it a lot like the other mgs?
The gameplay looks the same for the most part with a different setting. But that's how all sequels are right? If it brings a lot of new unique things to the table, than it's an easy AAA. Halo 3 had 4 player online co-op, forge, saved films, all integrated into bungie.net. Also had a better overall SP than Halo 2 and more balanced MP. But the gameplay was still the same for the most part. am right?
erm no it doesnt, you obviously know nothing about the game. the gameplay has changed a lot. im not gonna bother posting in this thread its a waste of time.
The controls have seen a huge overhaul for starters. This explains a lot of huge differences in MGS4
poor graphics + no multiplayer...only single player and nothing else....GS will officially be MGS fanboys if this game gets 9.0mingo123
Is this sarcastic or something? The graphics look great when you're not zoomed in trying to spot bad textures and it comes with Metal Gear Solid Online.
I see alot of bashing from lemmings these days.
Do they truely fear the year of the ps3 coming...?
Lebron181
Fear what ?
The PS3 is a miserable failure in everything it does. Sony will be grateful to get a game like MGS4 to hopefully have somthing really apealing for it fans.
The Xbox 360 is the console to beat.

Id stop those remarks since you could get quoted when PS3 has an amazing year on 08-09.

Wrong. The game includes MGO with five maps. More maps will be available via DLC. Besides, didn't Bioshock get a 9.0?

Do you want to go there...make my day.
Completly agree with you.I can guarantee that anyone who says the graphics aren't impressive hasn't seen a gameplay vid in hd, it blew me away
Sorry, have I gone insane!?
I thought the graphics were AWESOME when I saw the gameplay videos>!?>
Sorry I am really confused..

Still I don't see how MGS4 wouldn't get AAA. Seriously, look at any of the gameplay trailers.
It will get AA on here becuase too many cutscenes that describe and elaborate the final story, and too much customization, twisted plot, and some other retarded thing just so it gets AA.
Everywhere else will be 90+.

Hey, now I could be considered by some a lem :P however, even IF MGS didn't come with any online whatsoever I believe it would get a AAA score. Anyway I'm excited (this is one of my favorite series) and honestly, I am most excited to play it in FPS ****:P

when did i say he didn't - i'm obviously just talking about what i've seen. and i've stated repeatedly that i might be wrong.
totally just speaking based on what we've all been exposed to, not the final release.
