I'm almost 100% positive... that Master Chief is not going to make it :-(

Well, the ads take place after the year 2600, and Master Chief is around 42 years old in the events of Halo 3 (year 2552). So nothing's certain. He could've died anytime later.

^^^^^^^ Exactly whatI thought, I think all the trailers have something to do with the comics, not the game, if anyone has read them, they'll know what I'm talking about, also, i dont think Microsoft or Bungie would want to give away the ending, they have been mostly ambigous, but either way, there is too much talk about remembering heroes in the ads. But, they are AWESOME ads, both of them, the making of, AND the diorama.

Wrong.

Masterchief represents the hope and fate of humanity. He is in the dream of every sleeping child. He is in the hearts of every man. He is THE Master Chief. He will not die in vein.

I think him dying wouldn't be a negative, could add to the whole heroic aspect, I just hope they don't show his face.

Halo doesn't center around Master Chief. There're a million other things to explore in the Halo universe. Plus, John 117isn't the only Spartan, btw.

Apathetic_Irony, Damn yuse corny, yes, master chief is a tool for his army and whatnot, but so is solid snake as he gets owned by his commanders in every cutscene of every game, and master chief has no personality, true, but you do, Halo is all about making YOU feel like YOU are in the game, not playing through some character, but still, Master Chief is just awesome, he can do anything with his robot suit, its gonna be a blast to play as him one last time in Halo 3 and if he does die it'll be the most epic death in all video game history, Im not a fan boy, I own all three systems and both handhelds, but Halo is one of the best story-based games of all time, and you dont gotta be a fan boy to enjoy a good story

Halo 4 is MC when he was a baby.

You get to play his life in Pre-School -> High School... then he got beat up in College and became a spartan

I kinda think the whole "Metal suite generic soldier" is intentional. Master Chief, John 117, isn't some handsome looking, charismatic leader... he's just a generic soldier, in a suit. He could be me, he could be you, could be anyone. An ordinary, random soldier, saving the world and human kind.

Stories that end in the death of the protagonist are the most wonderful pieces of fiction in my opinion, but I REALLY doubt that they would kill the Master Chief. It would be wonderful if they did (in a narrative sense) but he's way too iconic to kill, especially being the figurehead of such an enormous franchise.

Umm, no. There's a shield world that protects those who activate Halo (read Ghosts of Onyx), and it's speculated that the Ark on Earth acts also as a Shield (even though we know it's the switch to the activation)........

"I am your Shield.....I am your Sword"

Not sure exactly what Cortana is referring to but we know the 'Sword' is basically the Foreunners' weapon, i.e. the Halos.....And we know that the 'Shield' is Onyx (it's a shield world)...what we don't know is, how did the humans survive the activation of the Halos the first time (100,000 years ago); that's where the speculation about the Ark comes in.

Oh well, look on the bright side, Halo fans... Maybe before they croak, Master Chief and Cortana will actually share a moment of genuine cyborg-on-AI love.

When you break down the story like that, it makes me say "damn this game is deep". Hater's always talk about how the story is generic, and I can give them a pass because you don't get all of that just from playing the games (you have to read the books, and we know few people read anymore. So sad). But if you get REALLY into it, it is an amazing story.

In fact my three favorite stories of the last decade are Halo, The Matrix, and Harry Potter. It's kinda sad I won't have any stories to look forward to completing after Halo 3.

For what it's worth, I...you know what? I was gonna say that I think the Chief will die (and point out Neo's death, but not say what happens to Harry in case there is someone who may want to read it still), but as I tried to type it the answer came to me. They are gonna really close up the story, but they are not gonna kill him. They may make it so that you are not sure if he lives or dies though. And I kinda like that idea. Then they can bring him back if they ever want to.

Yeah, that idea actually crossed my mind before. Also, I was glad to hear that Bungie worked hard on Halo 3's single-player campaign and that they made it a more cinematic experience this time (according to the lead Campaign designer). Hopefully, loose ends will be tied but I have a feeling not everything will be answered....but we will get a satisfying ending.
