I'm buying the God of War collection - should I skip 1 and go right to part 2?

I'm buying the God of War Collection because I really want to play God of War 2.

I really don't have much time to play video games so I think I am going to go straight to part 2 and skip part 1 since 2 is I believe the better game.

I realize most people would probably say "don't skip part 1" but my question is how big a deal would it be to skip 1, given that I don't have much time for games (is it really comparable to part 2, does the story matter, etc.).

Also, how long are the games?

Your choice, but I recommend you to at least watch the GOW1 cutscenes. Throughout GOW2 and 3, characters will mention some stories/etc from GOW1.

I would play 1 first. the story is better than 2 & 3 combined

GOW 2 is easily the best in the series, I would still play GOW though, it's pretty good. kind of a chore to play through on some parts though.

You'll be fine only playing 2. You'd be better playing both, so hopefully you get some free time eventually to squeeze it in.

well, imo,

in terms of Combat it goes: GOW3>GOW2>GOW1

Story: GOW1>GOW2>GOW3

Bosses: GOW3>GOW2>GOW1

so really, yeah, you wouldn't be missing much. it's a good game but you'll see the lack of refinement in combat, especially if you've already played God of War 3.

GOW 2 is easily the best in the series, I would still play GOW though, it's pretty good. kind of a chore to play through on some parts though.

as an overall experience, definitely. but it doesn't really demolish GOW1 or 3 in any specific category.

GOW3 par none had the best boss fights and combat of the series, and GOW1 had the best story. but as an overall package, i feel GOW2 is still the best.

I recommand playing GOW1(and don't learn anything about GOW2 or GOW3 of course until u play them) and then follow the story while playing(if u don't have much time just do it in easy mode).

It's also depends on how much u like the genre...That's how I did it.

IMO the first one is better than the second one, which is utter trash. The first is a brilliant game until the last two hours, where it completely falls apart... The second manages to ignore the first one's ending and ruin Kratos, which was a very good character, in the first five minutes. I won't bother with the third one after being so disappointed with GoW2.

Well, if you want to know how Kratos became the "God of War" then play 1.

If you just want to get pumped for 3 then just play 2.

God of War 1 has the best story of the 3.
I'm not sure how they tried to make us sympathize with Kratos in 2, but it was terrible and stank the game up. Like making you eat poo then giving you ice cream.

Kratos came off as the most sympathetic in Chains of Olympus. But I guess that doesn't count since it's a handheld game. :P

I too bought GOWC, and I loved the 1st one. Don't skip it, they are both awesome.

I played 2 before 1. If possible, play them in order, as the second game is better than the first, so it's hard to go the other way.

Play both. While both II and III are better than the first, it is still one of the greatest intro games in gaming history is you ask me. The quality might not be up to par with the other two, but it gives a great intro into the world of God of War.

It's a big deal. Don't do it.

I got it and played 1 first and then 2. I really enjoyed 2 and I could go through it and play it more but 1 I will never play again,it's really that big of a difference between the 2.
