im considering getting portal....

and i want the most critical opinions on what you guys thought about the game. also what are you guys expectations of portal 2? hermits/lems/worms(?)....will you be getting it?

also why when i see valve discussions is this game never brought up? is that a reflection of the games caliber?

portal, is one of those games that 95 percent of people who arent trolls love, play it and youll understand it, its an amazing game, to be critical of it though is to say its short, very short, like you can play through it in like an hour or two, but while it lasts, its one of the best games around

anyways yes it's awesome, it's only about 2.5 hours but that's exactly the right amount of time for the game

although i'd get the orange box since you get it with that with everything else

and yes i'm looking forward to Portal 2

The Orange Box is definitely a better deal - $30 for five games. And if your PC can run it, get it on the PC. You may be on your 360 more, but the PC has the definitive versions of all of the games in The Orange Box. Portal has a new update that ties into Portal 2 only on the PC, plus it gets custom maps for more gameplay. Team Fortress 2 has waaaaaaaay more content on the PC, it's not even a comparison. Really, you're doing yourself a disservice by getting it on anything but the PC.

Too short and I felt that it didn't reach its maximum potential... that said one of the most enjoyable games I played this gen. Just don't expect anything out of this world though... I'm expecting the second one to exceed my expectations, since the developers of Portal pretty much admited that the game was a kind of an experiment for them. We'll know soon enough...

Portal is a great game.

Buy Orange Box.

TC, the Portal that is on the xbla marketplace is not the original game, but rather a pack of user-made levels that were made official by Valve. They are harder but you should taste the original game first. Also, buy it for PC, sometimes it requires moving your portal gun really fast, I was a bit frustrated playing it with a gamepad.

Most Valve games tend to be overrated by fans/moders, but Portal actually lives up to the hype 100%.

The only negative is t is too short.

That and its sequels are not coming to the PS3.:(

geez aside from its length i havent heard a single bad thing about the game. i think ill go ahead and get it tomorrow...i may just order it off amazon since they have it for 16 bucks used for the pc.

Worth getting the game on the PC. There are a number of really good fan made Portal maps. Portal: Prelude comes to mind.

I actually just flew threw it yesterday after reading about Portal 2 in Game Informer. I heard there was an update that changed the ending but when I finished it yesterday it was the same, maybe that was only on the PC version. tbone802
