My cousins ps3 is in my house and I got it set up wirelessly. 20ft away and it only gets 50% of a signal. I could imagine thats why ps3 needed dedicated servers because most of the people are using wireless and they didnt want them to be host and lag it up. Now microsoft has wireless N on their new 360's. I imagine wireless N would get alot better signal from the wireless N router I have. I thought having wireless was a advantage for ps3 but now I see it as a disadvantage to psn. Wouldnt peoples signal on ps3 be worse than mine because their ps3 is even further away?

I'm confused. What does wireless have to do with dedicated servers?

Off topic:Lol you caught me twice in one thread with that sig But I don't think that's the reason why cause even with a wired someone can still have a low connection.

I think wireless N is only a significant advantage when transferring larger data files. I could be mistaken though :P

N has a longer range and less interference.

That is also true. I love my N router for my PC. I have no need of using a wired connection for it :P

Every person that I know that has a PS3 does not use the wireless. I would be inclined to believe that they have dedicated servers because of wireless if you could show me some stats of how many people use wireless over wired.

i dont know what router he has but in my house , i get down in the basment-80 percent , up in the living room 99 percent to 100

other room i used to have-85 percent sometimes 90

never went below 70except if , 1 the router is messed up (my old router broke one antenna so ya) that would cause it

i never have a problem w wifi on my ps3 or wii ,

but my 360 the exernal is worst

im in the same room with the ps3 and wii , , both get 3bars /80 percent

the 360 gets 2 if im lucky 3 bars

plus i keep getting disconnected i just did as im typing this so ya i would have prefered it included

in side there for itwould be better

My friend switched from wireless to wired for his ps3 because of the clunky G wifi in his ps3 while my cousine has had no problem with her new 360 slim N wifi which is about 40 or more feet away from her router. Am still on my old elite but i'll surely upgrade to the new 360 s after my exams this month. Too bad the ps3 owners are now behind xbox 360 owners in term of wifi.

It sounds like you have a mediocre wireless router (no offense to you of course). If you just need wireless G, I would recommend the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. It's the best wireless router I've ever used (flashed with Tomato firmware). I've not encountered another router besides maybe the Linksys WRT-54GL that has gotten consistently good reviews. I've always had bad experience with Linksys routers though.

I can't comment on N routers since I haven't had experiences with one.

You dont even seem sure about what youre talking about. Why create a thread trying to teach people something? Wireless N wont make a difference in gaming. And I have my PS3 one floor below my router. No problems.

i run a cable to anything that has to do with games.

there may not be a huge difference but i refuse to pay extra for a slower connection,i gues the reality isit's a bit silly since you normally won't see a difference but there just something about plunking down money to pay for a connection that is not as good that i just can't bring myself to do.

How do you check how much signal strength your PS3 is pushing?
