Im tired of holding this in but the real reason the 40 gig has no bc, is because sony is planning to annouce the ps2 at a price of 99.99.

also the 40 gig ps3 for U.S. will be silver.

just like evry playstation, product that gets color in U.S. it will be grey or silver, because thats what japan thinks americans like. case in point grey ps1, grey pstwo slim, now grey ps3. grey psp.

for japan the color is white, white ps2, white psp.

no I am too serious with this. I work in electronics at sams club, and we allready have the paper sighns that say ps2 at 99.99.

How is playing last-gen games "the full PS3 experience"? Microsoft completely dropped support for Xbox, we were lucky to have BC in the first place.

Not to mention it will likely be provided in a firmware update at some point, if possible.

Don't buy it, won't miss ya.

And im not mad because im more then likely going to buy this silver ps3 (Not sure yet) if it comes with some free stuff. But sony has made some bad cases over the past and them knocking MS's use of emulation is one of them. Plus they said Xbox having so many Skus was confuseing.

Now you cant say that this wont be confuseing as hell to you average consumer. Because I sure as hell dont trust the peeps at Wal-Wart to explain this.

the 40 gig ps3 will come with a free spiderman 3 blue ray, and some will come with Rachet and clank tools of destruction, im not sure if it was the 60 or the 40, but r and c wil be there.

soon sony will let the only sku be the 40 gig.

I dont see what ps2 games have to do with getting a full exp of ps3. PS3 is supose to play ps3 games. Plus ps2 is still alive and kicking.

For me BC is big feature, I bought my wii because of GC and VC backwards compatability. The lack of this in the ps3 puts
me off completely because i cant get rid of my ps2.
Btw for ps2 games on the ps3 do u need ps2 controllers or can you use ps3 controllers?

why is it that every forumite on gamespot whos has some kind of mad secret info, never has any info in their profile.. is that to ad to the effect of it being secretive and you might get fired....

anyway, i doubt thats reason, even if they are planning of annoucing a 99.99 ps2, i think the real reason would be to get people to buy the more expensive model, since neither sku is making them a profit, but the 60gb would be less of a financial hit..

which is most likely why they're phasing out the 60gb... and very likely to announce a super duper fully featured 80gb sku, for the gamer who has to have everything

Even with all the price cuts, Im still not sold. Nintendo's first party for Wii = kick ass. Microsofts Support for the console, despite large issues = awesome. Sony's lack of good AA-AAA titles (For every Heavenly Sword on PS3, there is a Lost Planet (also AA) on Xbox 360) isnt enough for me, and I really am into BC (I prefer to play old games on one console, rather than dusting out some olf POS system from 6 years ago).

O well, Ill just spend that money on a new PC to play SC II and Fallout 3 :D

i was kind of sad that i payed $200 more for my console because i dont think i will need to use all that hard drive space because i have an elite but now i dont really care because it isnt backwards compatiable.

you cant even play GOW2 on it and I really want to go back and play games like FF7 and start getting in to the FF series before FF13 comes out.

makes me fill a little better on missing out on all the price drops even though i did pay $600 and have barely played it all out side of a cople of hours of Resistance and when I rented and beat Heavenly Sword real quick.

Going from $500 to $400 is a $100 "price drop", and dropping features to lower price is a very poor excuse for a price drop, as its more cannibalizing the system then reducing costs to bring a lower MSRP.

You want my take on the lack of backwards compatibility on the 40GB model? By removing backwards compatibility Sony are encouraging customers to buy the more expensive model.

I cannot help but feel all these different models of console are becoming mightily confusing to keep track of, I despair for the uninformed parent, for example, who is overwhelmed by all the different choices of PS3 or 360.

The 40GB models are replacing the 60GB models, so the price drop, if you want to call it that, is $100. Its not really a price drop anyway, it really is a new SKU and not the lowering of an existing price.
