Infact do me a favor, name me 2 games. Name me one game that runs at 60 FPS and name one game that runs on 30 FPS, I gurantee there wont be a NOTICEABLE difference. It seems alot of ppl are misinformed in this thread. Last year Sony claimed 4d was possible with PS3 and that it would replace the pc. Yes thats right, said it would literally replace pcs. Dual hdmi 120fps games with 2 screens at 60fps a piece. Sony is the jack of all hype and master of no truth.
To the tc.. yes 60+fps would make a difference in nearly every game. It's hard to compare on console because most games are optimized to run around 30fps, which is good. But if you were to take the same game and play on pc with a high end rig then you'de see the difference. You wouldn't ask because there wouldn't be any slowdowns anywhere and the game would just run smooth as butter ALL of the time.
Prime example for this would be Quake 4. While it wasn't a good port, still you can tell because of its slower frames that its hard to keep up online and the pace of the game just drags at many instances. On the pc with much higher frames... no such problems. I can say the same for R6Vegas, too. While it runs sweet on X360 (ive played it) the game runs better on high end pc with no hiccups (like virtually none). But it takes mighty strong hardware to do this (8800 series, e6600+). Before someone says that kinda hardware isn't needed.. well its not but if you want to game at a level higher then 360, then you do need it. It's as simple as that. The PS3 was supposed to have hardware that was leaps and bounds better than X360 (since sony said so) therefor have no problem running games 60 fps all the time.
Lastly, I love my Wii and your right about the fun in games regardless of the frames. Gaming should be about fun and if its not, whats the point? However, when you have graphic intensive games such as Motorstorm, Gears, and MassEffect then it certainly helps to have at least 60 fps. I know because I've much fragtime with UT, Q3, PK, etc and I know it does make a difference. If you think otherwise, then you simply haven't gamed at over 60fps with all the bells and whistles on. Suggestion for you.... DON'T!! It could ruin your whole 'Motorstorm is godly' experience.

I guess the point of the story is that it wasn't a big deal until Sony made it that way. They are the ones who said "Next-Gen" didn't start until they said it did. Sh*$, they released their console and we're still waiting. You'd have thought they would have "Next-Gen" loaded and chambered by the time they launched their console huh? 30 FPS wasn't a big deal until Sony came out and said "We'll be doing 120 FPS in 1080p TRUE-HD!!!!!!11111111111" There is a happy ending though and it's this: we can all learn a lesson here. Don't shoot off your mouth with insane, unfounded, out-of-this-world claims if you're actually going to have to get on stage one day. For example I should never say "I could hit more home runs than Barry Bonds" if I actually knew him, or if I worked for ESPN or something.

That was a pretty lame attempt at damage control. Everyone knows that those comments were said. It is dumb however for people to believe in 4D though on any level in terms of graphics. But to try and devalue the quality of wikipedia is senseless, just because it is editable by everyone doesn't mean it isn't monitored for quality control. And in fact was found to be equal to Britannica in terms of error per page (Wikipedia averages 4, Britanica avgs 3).

Yeah dont forget Sony said unless its 1080p then its not TRUE-HD!!!! 720p/1080i is only HD-LITE!!!! ie Regular HD!! But not TRUE!!!! I'm still trying to figure out this day what true-hd is. I have a plasma and games/movies at 720p looks like HD to me. I went to Best Buy and saw the 1080p lcd with Sonys blu-ray player and it looked the same if not worse with artifacts. To me it looks as if they took a step backwards. Some ppl claim that the 1080p blu-ray is working better now, but until I can see something better with my own eyes then I'll steer away from TRUE HD!!!!!!!

You get a much better sense of speed with a faster frame rate. Ummm, compare F-Zero GX on the Gamecube and some other racing game that runs at 30. Big difference
For a racing game more FPS means more sense of speed. And this is in general related to anything that tries to simulate speed. You just can't simulate speed as good on 30FPS as you could for example lets say 120FPS.
The abilities of the human eye are of no importance here, but the ability to show much more animation in 120 frames as in 30 frames. Refreshing in 30 frames wont give you the sense of speed you get on 120. Games which cannot achieve high frames usually fall back to motion blur (latest NFS series) which infact looks good, but it doesn't fix the problem that the game lacks speed.
Simple, with more frames you can show more action.
I still play counter-strike (source) a fair bit on my PC and its hard to play if its at 30FPS. Ive got all the settings turned way down, (keep the resolution at 1280 by 1024) so i can be sure that it never drops below 60FPS. Playing on a 7600GT fyi.
Depends on the game imo. I can run Oblivion on my computer and it looks great and is quite playable even though its running at like 20-25FPS (when im outdoors).

30 fps, is sufficient 25fps is universally accepted as good enough to view movine images on, heck im sure we all have been watching tv for years!
As a side point i dont understand why so much emphasis is put on graphics? I mean sure its better to have good gfx but it certainly does not 'make' a game, some of the best games ever have awful graphics: Tetris, red alert, wario wear, pheonix wright. All of those games are really enjoyable to play and dont rely on 'good' graphics at all. Personally if there was a really compelling game about a dot with good gameplay id rather play that than, the most beautiful photorealistic game that requires you to press one button over and over again.

Its like quoting a weapons expert on how to run a tea party. However im definately getting a ps3 because I want the games that are coming out on it.
30 fps, is sufficient 25fps is universally accepted as good enough to view movine images on, heck im sure we all have been watching tv for years!
As a side point i dont understand why so much emphasis is put on graphics? I mean sure its better to have good gfx but it certainly does not 'make' a game, some of the best games ever have awful graphics: Tetris, red alert, wario wear, pheonix wright. All of those games are really enjoyable to play and dont rely on 'good' graphics at all. Personally if there was a really compelling game about a dot with good gameplay id rather play that than, the most beautiful photorealistic game that requires you to press one button over and over again.

TVs incorporate motion blur by default. If films were shot without it and shown at 24fps, they would look like crap and your head would hurt after watching it for 5 minutes.

Now, on the subject of 720p 30fps: so now it is good enough for PS3 fans? Surely those specs are not "next gen" enough, after those ridiculous 120fps 1080p promises.
Im so sick of hearing everyone bad talk Motorstorm because its "only" at 720p 30 FPS. and so?!?! The big question is this, how does that affect me as the gamer?! Infact do me a favor, name me 2 games. Name me one game that runs at 60 FPS and name one game that runs on 30 FPS, I gurantee there wont be a NOTICEABLE difference. Whatever happened to just Great graphics and great framerate?!, since when is 720p and 30 FPS bad?!? Seriously, if someone can name me 2 games that run at 30 FPS and the other game that runs at 60 FPS and if there is a noticeable difference, I will admit ownage!! I mean seriously, Motorstorm is one bad azz game, do you people really sit there and say to yourselves "man this game is only running at 30 FPS and 720p" Because if you do really think that and are so picky, you dont deserve to be a gamerRagingBull25

I agree with you in principle, but you are missing one main point. It was Sony that kept making such an issue of 60fps and 1080p. (At one point they even said they would support dual 1080p.Wow now that would have been funny people having to buy two HDMI cables). Remember the Next Gen does not start til they say it does? Well all I know is that some of my regular xbox games can do 720p and 30fps. So of course if Sony says something and makes an issue out of it people are going to call them on it when it is proven to be untrue.
