The nintendo part wasn't dumb, because it's still selling. It's only bad for us consumers. Now as for the no HD cables things, it has always bugged me why HD consoles would not include the necessary cables to make use of thier HD capabilities, sort of counter productive isn't it? You boast HD then make us have to go out for the cables to allow that HD to happen.
Well, MS is at it again. Instead of dropping the price and making the 360 a great value they go and add an additional $40 to the cost of the system by making people who want HD go out and buy the HD cables (of an HDMI if your TV has one - thankfully mine does). It's like...all these companies have the chance to swoop in and bury their competition, yet they're just too spineless to pull the trigger even if it cost them a little more on the bottom line. If Ms had dropped the price, left the cables and tossed in a really great bundle (like the Halo/FAble bundle) they would have a chance against the PS3 slim. I mean, you have to be dense to say that the 360 elite is a better value than the PS3 in terms of hardware. I can admit this and the PS3 is the only console I don't own at the moment (I did own it before however). Also, don't get me started on Nintendo. $250 for three years (even after the end of the shortages)? Dumb....XanaduTheBandDropping the HDMI cable in the 360 Elite does suck. You can still get one pretty cheap, but it should have come with one. It's even worse with the PS3 because you need Composite or HDMI to watch Blu-Ray movies in 1080p. So gamers can't even watch Blu-Ray movies or play their games in 1080p right out of the box. That's just lame on Sony's part.
so MS and Sony lower the price of their consoles and all you do is complain? "oh it doesn't come with hd cables. wah." big f'n whoop. you can buy them online for under $10. only a moron would go to best buy and pay $40 - $100 for an hdmi cable. the only "weaksauce" here is your post complaining about the 360 and ps3 not coming with hd cables when you already have a 360 and should have known from day one that the ps3 doesn't include ANY hd cable.
So basically you're complaining about the consoles not coming with cables that you can get online for around $10?
my complaint about MS is that in the article on the front page they say that most people dont use the hd cables. i think they shoulda left it like it is and just have the component and composite cbales on the same hookup. how would they know people dont actually use the cables anyways...well im sure they probably polled it though. its the stupidest thing that you can get HDMI cables cheaper than you can get component cables.....ultimate stupidslvrraven9
how is that stupid?
the hdmi cable is cheaper to make than the 360 proprietary component/composite hookup. also, because the hdmi cable is just a standard hdmi cable, you could buy one for next to nothing online. it just seems like your complaining for the sake of complaining. next time, blog it. that way, no one would have to read it.
It's stupid that they took them out to begin with, and them saying that most people who bought the elite didnt use the hd cables is just the hotsauce on the turd sunday. I guarantee anyone who shelled out for the most expensive of THREE xbox models more often than not used the hdcables.

Apparently most people don't use the HD cables. Makes you wonder if they should have just stuck with SD
Havent seen you post here in aaages.
But i agree, having a HD console without the components to go HD is stupid.
HD cables aren't included because not everybody has an HDTV yet. Its still a minority thing. And an HDMI cable isn't 40 dollars...
The component cables are, some people prefer component cables over hdmi, or need them for one reason or another.

i wouldnt call it a minority thing anymore. most retail stores dont even carry many models of sd tvs....some dont carry sdtvs at all anymore. thats enough of a reason imo to include hd cables. most people who buy tvs now are going to be purchasing HDTVS and taking full advantage of the 360's hardwareHD cables aren't included because not everybody has an HDTV yet. oh yeah chief of course im just saying what im saying just to get attention. what im saying is unless they plan on making all these component cables just to make them and store them for no other reason than just to have them readily available, forcing people to buy hdmi cables is pretty stupid. of course the component cables made by microsoft would cost more like anything else on a video game console caust its made for a specific console and would have its own connection...unlike hdmi wich fits anything. so yes the component would be more expensive due to the design and manufacturing i understand that....the dumb part is, MS still makes these cables wich means it still costing them money regardless of whether people are buying them or not....but if theyre packaged in, at least they can recover some or most of the cost to make the cables instead of making them with the intent on people buying hdmi over your own product (if thats the thought process) because tvs nowadays are having hdmi standard as a connection from low to high end and most gamers know where or at least knows somebody that knows where to find HDMI cables at a bargain price. why dont you blog your on smart allec responses next time you feel like trying to educate someone on supply and demand or at least ask someone to explain further before you decided to act like a total **** nosewow. nothing but fail.

second, ms still makes those proprietary component cables because not everyone's hdtv has hdmi or maybe the person who wants the 360 to be in hd ran out of hdmi slots on their tv. it's a viable alternative.
third, making those component cables costs them money. if they throw it in for free in the box, they lose money on it. so instead, they are selling them for $40 to make up for all the costs and make higher profits. the same goes for the vga cable and the hdmi cable with the optical cable adapter. it's called a business decision. learn to deal with it.
i still stand by what i said. next time if you want to ----- and moan about something trivial, blog it because no one gives a ----.
No HD cables or. . . eliminating BC, reducing the amountof USB ports, and getting rid of the media card slots?
thanks microsoft you charge 39,99 for the hd cables then you charge 20 for rechargable batteries then you charge 99 for wifi then you charge 50 a yr for online play
and sony does exactly the same minus the batteries and wifi and online play
but you gotta pat 50 for blutooth headset ,
hd consoles that dont come with hd cables=dont mix
Agreed. It sucked when Sony did it and it sucks that Microsoft is now joining in. Sure, you can get HDMI cables for damn cheap from Monoprice, which is where I get 'em, but it's just an added hassle that shouldn't be involved when picking up the system. Don't sell me an HD system with damn composites.
Whatever happened to not everyone owns an HD Tv is my guess. At least this sucks less than Sony taking out the emotion engine to push Ps3 software and cut production costsAgreed. I agree, i would not use there cables anyways, i use Monster 1000HD 10.2 Gbps high speed cables for my PS3 and 360.djsifer01
you gotta be kidding me? you seriously paid over $100 for an hdmi cable that gives the same exact video quality as a $10 hdmi cable? the only time you'd need an hdmi cable that expensive is if you are running it for over 100 feet because they prevent signal loss and image degradation better than the cheaper stuff.

I don't know, but I'm buying HD systems. Make the SD users pay, not the ones who are using the system for what it's built for.
Its obvious anyone comparing an Elite and the new PS3 will choose PS3. This is for people replacing their 360 hence no need for another cable.EmperorSupremeThat wouldn't be obvious if they want to play Halo ODST or Forza 3. lol!! The only thing people will compare the PS3 and XBox 360 is the price and the games. People who want a Blu-Ray player will usually get a stand along. The additional features on the PS3 isn't something that will easily sway a gamer to buy it. Most will buy it because the price has dropped and there are exclusives games that gamers want to play. The Wifi and free online will just be an afterthought bonus for most people.

The only proper option for Sony/MS is for them to include both, well all 3 actully, an HDMI cable, a standard TV cable and one of the other HD connecting cables (i forget what they are called for tvs that are HD but have no HDMI socket) as if they don't they will get moaned at either way. Think of it, say tomorrow Sony/MS stopped including SD tv cables and only included HD cables the moaners here would be "YAY!! about time", they day after you would get loads more crying "Sony/MS should include SD tv cables!!!". The way some people cry about HD cables you would think they cost a $100 or something not between $1 and $5 if you look.Whatever happened to not everyone owns an HD Tv is my guess. but everyone is using the system for what it was built for: playing games. MS use to pack in the HD cables (component and later hdmi) for free to try to promote HDTV adoption. that's also why MS partnered with Samsung at the launch of the 360. by making sd tv users pay for hd cable that they don't need is a waste of money. it sucks that ms is taking away something they once gave away for free, but it's nothing to complain about, especially if you already own a 360.
you could also think of this: people buy blu-ray players for hd movies yet almost no company includes hdmi cables in the box. not even the high end brands like denon or marantz include the cable and your paying $1000 for an hd movie player.
The XBOX 360 Pro came with Component cables while my PS3 came with RCA cords that is even weaker, why did Sony not at least supply Component like XBOX?

My 360 pro came with a component/composite hybrid cable with a switch. It works on standard and hd tvs.
To add to cowgrillers post. You also have to remember that the standard tv cables work on ALL tvs, now sure if you plug them into an HD tv it won't look great BUT it will still at least work and get you a picture, however if you include only HD cables anyone who doesn't have an HD tv can't get a pricture at all.Stoner-Pimp

Yeah same as mine did back when i had a pro, the trick is it's still like i said, your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't, more and more tvs now come with HDMI sockets and as per the moaners rule (moan at anything and everything, sort of like you give a moaner $20 they will moan that it wasn't a $50 :D), if they included a component/composite cable you would stlll have people saying "they need to include HDMI cables!", it's un-winable unless they include all 3 cables, but that's not cost effective at all.
The 360 didn't even start with a HDMI port to begin with, so meh.
gago-gago
yes your right and im one that doesnt have the HDMI port. but now they took out the hdmi and component cables all together, so its basically taking a step back when they had a 1 up on sony for that one!

so did mine. this is nothing more than a calculated business move. taking away the hd cables from the package saves them money. selling the hd cables separately makes them money.
