The nintendo part wasn't dumb, because it's still selling. It's only bad for us consumers. Now as for the no HD cables things, it has always bugged me why HD consoles would not include the necessary cables to make use of thier HD capabilities, sort of counter productive isn't it? You boast HD then make us have to go out for the cables to allow that HD to happen.

Well, MS is at it again. Instead of dropping the price and making the 360 a great value they go and add an additional $40 to the cost of the system by making people who want HD go out and buy the HD cables (of an HDMI if your TV has one - thankfully mine does). It's like...all these companies have the chance to swoop in and bury their competition, yet they're just too spineless to pull the trigger even if it cost them a little more on the bottom line. If Ms had dropped the price, left the cables and tossed in a really great bundle (like the Halo/FAble bundle) they would have a chance against the PS3 slim. I mean, you have to be dense to say that the 360 elite is a better value than the PS3 in terms of hardware. I can admit this and the PS3 is the only console I don't own at the moment (I did own it before however). Also, don't get me started on Nintendo. $250 for three years (even after the end of the shortages)? Dumb....XanaduTheBand

my complaint about MS is that in the article on the front page they say that most people dont use the hd cables. i think they shoulda left it like it is and just have the component and composite cbales on the same hookup. how would they know people dont actually use the cables anyways...well im sure they probably polled it though. its the stupidest thing that you can get HDMI cables cheaper than you can get component cables.....ultimate stupidslvrraven9

It's stupid that they took them out to begin with, and them saying that most people who bought the elite didnt use the hd cables is just the hotsauce on the turd sunday. I guarantee anyone who shelled out for the most expensive of THREE xbox models more often than not used the hdcables.

The component cables are, some people prefer component cables over hdmi, or need them for one reason or another.

first, MS packed in hdmi cables with the elite unit as a marketing ploy. since the 360 launched with out hdmi support, sony had something to brag about. when ms launched the elite with hdmi compatibility, they included the hdmi cable to in a way say, "not only do we now have hdmi, unlike sony, we'll throw in a free hdmi cable". now, there's really no need. you can buy an hdmi cable for cheap so wh should they throw it in.

second, ms still makes those proprietary component cables because not everyone's hdtv has hdmi or maybe the person who wants the 360 to be in hd ran out of hdmi slots on their tv. it's a viable alternative.

third, making those component cables costs them money. if they throw it in for free in the box, they lose money on it. so instead, they are selling them for $40 to make up for all the costs and make higher profits. the same goes for the vga cable and the hdmi cable with the optical cable adapter. it's called a business decision. learn to deal with it.

i still stand by what i said. next time if you want to ----- and moan about something trivial, blog it because no one gives a ----.

you gotta be kidding me? you seriously paid over $100 for an hdmi cable that gives the same exact video quality as a $10 hdmi cable? the only time you'd need an hdmi cable that expensive is if you are running it for over 100 feet because they prevent signal loss and image degradation better than the cheaper stuff.

but everyone is using the system for what it was built for: playing games. MS use to pack in the HD cables (component and later hdmi) for free to try to promote HDTV adoption. that's also why MS partnered with Samsung at the launch of the 360. by making sd tv users pay for hd cable that they don't need is a waste of money. it sucks that ms is taking away something they once gave away for free, but it's nothing to complain about, especially if you already own a 360.

you could also think of this: people buy blu-ray players for hd movies yet almost no company includes hdmi cables in the box. not even the high end brands like denon or marantz include the cable and your paying $1000 for an hd movie player.

The XBOX 360 Pro came with Component cables while my PS3 came with RCA cords that is even weaker, why did Sony not at least supply Component like XBOX?

My 360 pro came with a component/composite hybrid cable with a switch. It works on standard and hd tvs.

To add to cowgrillers post. You also have to remember that the standard tv cables work on ALL tvs, now sure if you plug them into an HD tv it won't look great BUT it will still at least work and get you a picture, however if you include only HD cables anyone who doesn't have an HD tv can't get a pricture at all.Stoner-Pimp

so did mine. this is nothing more than a calculated business move. taking away the hd cables from the package saves them money. selling the hd cables separately makes them money.
