Crysis's day of making $2,000 computers get on their knees and beg for mercy and single handily destroying any graphics comparison are finally over.

This has been posted before, but this game continues to blow me away with the sheer graphical quality that is displayed in every single screenshot and video that we have seen. My I7 and GTX 470 are already shaking in fear at this beast. Crysis it was fun, but now Total War: Shogun 2 is stepping up to make our computer hardware commit suicide.

I could talk about how the rain will literally drip down the armor of over 20,000 character models or how each single body is on a physics engine to model collision during the choreographed battles, but I'll just let the pictures show for themsselves.

COMMENCE THE PICTURE DUMP!

But wait, pictures are never enough. Let's see this beauty in motion.

Ok now that's out the way. Let the inevitable dump of modded Crysis screenshots flood this thread while teh console fanboys start spamming "I don't care", "Game looks boring", "GAMEPLAY>>>> GRAPHIX!!!"

They should have made China Total War. it's a lot crazier than Japanese feudal era, not to mention the scale is freaking huge and lasted long (and there are many periods to choose from) I mean, there was a single battle that took lives of 400,000+ men just on one side in Spring and Automn Era. (and I'm kinda iffy on this era in Japanese history because this was when they invaded Korea)

I wonder if everybody understands the engine can handle 57,000 of those character models...

Crysis can do maybe 30 on a good machine without massive slowdown.

This does not.

It probably does zoomed out, which is how RTSs are played. Plus I think Shogun 2 is a bigger technical achievement. Those models would be good on their own, but thousands and thousands rendered at a time admist a gorgeous, massive environment is pretty damn impressive.

Ok in that case, I still think Uncharted 2 looks better than Crysis.

Crysis is praised for the scale and graphical quality yet if you look at the little details, the game fails pretty hard (look at the rock textures and try to not laugh). Uncharted 2 actually had tons more individual details and way better lighting.

Scale is a major part of being a graphics king. People always complain about Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 is to small scale compared to Crysis.

i love these massive battle type games and never really care what they look like.

tbo i would not care if they were just a few steps up from stick figures as long there are thousands of onscreen soldiers and the physics and accuracy of the encounter is done well.

The engine wasn't meant to handle 20,000 models. This is a new engine built with today's hardware in mind.

Just throwing more hardware at old engines doesn't just make the engine run better when pushed beyond it's capabilities.

lol, Crysis does not look photo-realistic even at enthusiast settings. It looks very good, but no game looks that good outiside of cinematics. Shogun 2 doesnt impress me visually, but it is amazing how many detailed characters are on screen on at once and that will be pretty demanding.

Crysis is not even close to the scale of any Total War games, especially post-Rome ones.

This is Shogun Total War from 2000.

Yup. We take things for granted today. BTW I have been playing this older game on my laptop and it actually holds up gameplay wise today.

As long as its released in a stable state, and they take away the horrid random map generator that Empire used and go back to the grid map that Rome and Medieval 2 used i'll be happy. Oh, and makle it mod friendly, i don't care for japan, I want Rome, or at least a China mod.

Even those games aren't that small scale wise. Killzone 2 has some pretty big MP maps.

And the Train level In Uncharted 2 and when you're inside the temple shifting all the lights with the mirror's is pretty big.

If you want to talk really small scale look at the doom games :P

Crysis may finally have to pass on the crown...

Then The Witcher 2 will live up to its name title, Assassins of Kings, and claim RPG and Graphics king.

Crysis is destined to be the eternal king of graphics. Whether the scale is so much larger that it doesn't count, or it's just a corridor shooter so that doesn't count either

theuncharted34

I dont think you see the big picture.. this is a game that supports thousands of characters with their own motion capture animation...

"The units in Shogun2 have a total of 52 different bones, which is a nearly 25% increase over those in previous Total War games. This allows for much more natural and realistic animations, which incidentally, were captured using the British Kendo Association and actual bushido fighters. Samurai were known for their strong, flexible armor and for their mastery of multiple weapons like the katana and nodachi. During our demo, we saw two ranks of katana samurai battling with each other and it looked even better than the thrilling combat in Empire. Add in support for up to 56,000 units in a single battle, and it's clear to see just how ambitious Shogun2 really is."

"The team is reintroducing nighttime battles to the game, and we saw a spectacular example of a castle assault during a thunderstorm at night. The way the lightning cracked in the distance and lit up the trees and soldiers as rain collected in puddles around them was phenomenal."

Dude i beat both Crysis and Warhead with CCC mod's, i know the game is beautifull no doubt but Shogun 2 looks so much bigger and 57000 units on screen are you kidding me? Have you ever seen 20000 on fire arrows flying onto opposite side of troops ? and each one reacts differently when getting hit ? This is a trully next gen game.

This is kind of like Uncharted 2 and a game like say Halo: Reach, some people think graphics king should be all about the graphics, and some think graphics, scale and technical achievements should be included in these graphic king debates. Crysis will still be looked at as the "king" but you can't say what Shogun 2 is pushing isn't impressive.

OnLive is more of a clown than PC/Consoles. It's one of those sad, emo clowns too. Not the good ones with the animal balloons.

Bad troll is bad.

I think Metro 2033 did steal Crysis' graphics king crown but modded Crysis still looks better. That's why I call Metro 2033 the graphics queen :D

[QUOTE="theuncharted34"]

but those 57,000 look worse than the ganado's on the ps2 version of RE 4. And how do you know this game won't have even worse slowdown? lol

And I really don't know but doesn't crysis have better scale? or are they equal on that front?

Crysis has a small scale. Especially what is being rendered in full view.

Also I laugh at your comparison.

Sometimes I seriously wonder if anyone realizes how the previous gen really looked. Like when people say Wii games look like N64 games...no. Just....no.
