I don't know any grandmas or grandpas playing this thing like the commercials say. I got one for my b-day and promptly gave it to my sister( I already own the GC, XB360, PS3). I bought NO More Heroes and it was funny, but the graphics/collision detection were stuck in the 90s. Zelda and Mario Galaxy were fun but felt like a GC game. I am NOT trying to flame anybody just my opinion. I hope that next-gen Nintendo expands on the Virtual Boys 3D technology with color graphics cuz we all know Nintendo doesn't follow the same old route for long.

nevermind the fact that its a new way of playing video games. im pretty sure if nintendo would of put out a console, that basically did the same thing the other consoles did, that console wouldnt sell as well as the wii.

clearly the wii success came from the way you play games, rather than its cheap price, though that had a tab bit to do with it.

Your sig makes me laugh with your post. :)

Anyway, I hate how everyone complains about the graphics. They aren't that bad. It has the worst graphics this gen, that's true, but they aren't necessarily bad. The 360 and PS3 graphics are just really good, that's all.

Besides, when has Nintendo had the most technologically advanced console anyway, not counting when it was the only one out.

Cheap is only one reason. Its appealing to a whole new market base of kids and adults (zero teen appeal). The 360 is about to be $199 and I doubt it will put up Wii numbers of 700-500k in non-holiday months. The PS3 might be able to do that, but it'd be solely because the most compatible and feature packed Blu-Ray player just got a 50% price drop and now sells for less than an expensive DVD player.

so despite the gamecube at least being graphically on par with the competition, it still lost despite being cheaper than the competition

Price is a factor, yes.

But the appeal is really in the new direction the Wii takes games in terms of gameplay. That's what made people curious in the first place. The clever design of games that use this new direction is what keeps people in love with their Wiis.

I don't think the Wii is for everyone though. Some gamers just won't evolve, change or even leave themselves open to anything new or fresh. Some gamers are perfectly happy with their tried-and-true control pads and the games that were made for them. These forums will definitely give testimony. It's perfectly fine if that's what you're into.

But as the market for this generation progresses, you can CLEARLY see that there are far more gamers, be it casual or hardcore, that are responding to this change in a very positive way. The Wii is a breakthru console. It's exactly what Nintendo needed and the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
