Having multiple competitors in a market is a characteristic of an imperfect world. In a perfect world, there would be only 1 console, if any at all.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
This gen tought me to only stay to one system/brand only and that PlayStation so next gen its going to be PlayStation only
With that 1 system every company would be making games for that only so there is no exclusives and Mario/Uncharted/Halo would all be on this one console.
I realize this would destroy System Wars as a topic of discusion because there would be no need for it, but I'm just curious to what people want.
One single system would be the best, or rather any electronics maker can make whatever (handheld, console, or whatever) that are compatible with all games.
Then it'd be similar to blu-ray players, and mp3 players where you only have to buy one, and you get access to everything.

If it could transform into something portable or stationary, hook up to any TV or monitor, can magically spawn a keyboard or controller and plays all games released in the world without hurting the industry, then yes, also full BC with any game ever released and all digital of course.Â

Sounds like the PC, but companies like Sony, Nintendo, and MS are getting in the way of our gaming utopia.
That is why an open standard platform is key. :)Is the principle of how competition makes any industry thrive always this easily forgotten?

Well hopefully PC continues its recent trend of increasing Japanese support. Can't say I care much for many first party games besides Zelda, Metroid and Fire Emblem but there are a lot of Japanese games that seeminly have no chance of ever making it to PC outside of emulators.Â

Check out the greenlight on Steam. I've seen Japanese games in there a couple times. I think given the size of Japanese devs/publishers they're kind of required to go through greenlight like any other small/indie dev, but once they get in they're in as far as I know.
For example right now there's a game on greenlight called Agarest: Generations of War. I know it's already out in the west, but it's there, and I don't think I've seen any other Compile Heart game on Steam.Â
I try to give support if I can since even if I don't particularly care for a game I know I've got a couple friends that do. In the last year Steam has gained the support of Xseed, and Nihon Falcom though, so hopefully more will keep coming.

Yeah I've heard of Agarest. Was initially a PS3 game I think.
The Ys games seem to have done very well on Steam. The market is there but I think it's just a matter of treading on unfamiliar ground for Japanese devs. I'm hoping the x86 architecture of the PS4 means we'll see some more support on PC by effect but that's only hoping of course.
The day games like Catherine, Nier, Tales, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Final Fantasy, etc are on PC is the day I no longer buy a console :P

A perfect world would cover this, no?
In all honesty, whatever.

I would stay with just one. Video Games are just a hobby for me so "diversity" means nothing to me when it comes to hardware. Â
Unless something really amazing happens, which it probably wont, then I wont buy another console again. There are more than enough games and hobbies to keep me entertained on the PC. "But what about the exclusives?" You say? The PC has more than its fair share of exclusives too and TBH the exclusives on consoles always end up being at least slightly disappointing to me. These days all of the best games are multi platform with the exception of a few PC genres you cant really get anywhere else ( ARMA, SCII, Total War ect ) and those multi platform games are always best on PC too. The PS3 and 360 didnt really give me anything worth buying them for, I honestly felt like I wasted money on them and I doubt that will change with the next batch of consoles. The last console I really enjoeyed playing was the Dreamcast.
The handful of exclusive games is the only reason to have anything but a PC, but I don't think there's any need to consolidate. With only one system, rather than several; with no exclusive games; no competition, there would just be less drive for great games, and overall advancements to the industry.
So in the world I design, I get to decide if i want to spend hundreds more on a second and possibly third console for exclucive games or keep every game on one console ... hmmm yup 1 console please. unfortnately this is an imperfect world and one console wouldnt work.

A perfect world would cover that. By having it. Competition making an idustry thrive is a perfect world.Â
I only need one system anyway,Playstation provides all I need.I'm glad M$ and Nintendo are around though to keep Sony on their toes.
I would rather there be multiple systems for healthy competition. If Nintendo got all the 3rd party support, I wouldn't have to get more than one console... It's as simple as that

It has a lot of those too, or at least Nintendo games. It's fairly resourceful.Yes, having a single platform with all games would be nice.
The PC is nearly there, it has all console multiplats with PC exclusives. The only thing it's missing is console exclusives, but most of them aren't very good anyway.

Not the point.[QUOTE="Ultrabeatdown55"][QUOTE="Goyoshi12"]Also: There is no such thing as perfection.Goyoshi12
Uh....yeah kind of the point if you're talking about "In a perfect world..."
No, that is not the point of this thread. I didn't say this was reality. Obviously a perfect world is unrealistc but that is not what the discussion is about here.So yeah, definitely not the point.
If it was one standard like DVD and Blu-ray theoretically it would keep the competition but they wouldn't have exclusives. Is the principle of how competition makes any industry thrive always this easily forgotten?
