If you don't believe they made this because of MS and Nintendo's Mii's then your a re****. Seriously, heres a quote from Phil Harrison on Miis. Again if you don't believe that Miis+XBL = PSHOME then your a fanboy.

Going back to the lo-fi aspect of the Miis, as you put it, what would you be more interested in seeing? What would be more attractive to you in terms of that avatar idea?

System Wars supposed "fanboys" isnt the only place that sees the direct correlation between Miis and MS Achievements.

Heres a quote from Kotaku:

"Basically, you get to make an avatar for your console (like a Mii) and this avatar has a room. As you play games and accomplish certain tasks, you will receive items with which to adorn the room that are specific to the game (achievements). The kicker is that this is going to be a new requirement for every PS3 game.."

I actually think Home is amazing and I wish it were on the 360. It looks really promising. But you have to be a huge moron/fanboy to think that its not a ripoff. You think Sony would have made PSHOME if there werent Mii's or achievements? Phil even says that they are going to copy it to see if more people like PSHOME instead of Miis. Lol

It's the old idea of taking what works and doing your own thing with it, creating your own spin. Overall, I think it looks really good.

People act like Miis were suppose to be some god given thing on the Wii that couldn't be beat, its not. You can't beat something that wasn't in the first place being sololy for one thing simply to intergate one's looks or creativity into a game or so like Wii Sports.

damage control. I never said they did. That still doesnt negate the fact that Phil said they were going to copy nintendo cept make it better. There are some things that usually aren't put into consoles. The Mii idea was one of them. It was brand new to the hardware/console industry. Still like i said b4. Phil himself said they were going to copy so theres really nothing to say.

Come on people, I know this isn't the first or the last time I'm going to make this comment, but surely any educated person can see this is how the world works. In order to survive, everyone has to be on pace or ahead of their immediate competition. The entire basis on which technology is based is to adapt and expand, which includes taking one idea and making modifications for your own interpretation.

In all honesty I could care less because I own a PS3 and it will be my main console this generation. I have to agree though that Sony just doesn't t do enough original stuff but whatever. I can see why the industry in general does bash them.

After seeing that comparison, I'd have to say I prefer Mii's as opposed to the Sony interpretation. I like the idea of realism and it might be good if you could incorporate your character into a sports game, but Mii's are just a fun little thing, and we all sorta want to have our own cartoon character based on us. That said, I don't think there's enough variety in the sets of eyes and other facial features to truly get a unique character for every Mii.

I don't own a Wii...but a 360. I would rather have the Home system on the 360. Simply because you can do more stuff than with miis. And the inclusion of milestones to buy items is really cool. Anyway, i notice how alot of cows are staying away from this topic. LOL, they have nothing to say.

No, i'm sorry. An Avatar is a representation of a person portrayed in a game. This was done as far back as the ATARI.

and nintendo copies the game console from Atari. and all FPS basically copied from wolfenstein 3d. and MS copied the idea to make a console from playstation 2. and Sony copied their console from Nintendo, etc. etc. etc. improving something is the natural thing, every computer and chip design for them tends to copy from each other, almost like its progress or something. thanks for the amazing epiphany.

Sony didn't "Copy" in the full sense of the word. When you take part of a CONCEPT and make it your own this is called "influence". Copying is taking something full stock and barrel...........like what Bungie did with Halo's story..........from multiple sources. But I digress.

much like xbox copied PS2 system and their controller? much like EVERYTHING copies. unless something is completely new, like when fire was made, it was copied. the guy who made the grill copied cave men, what a dumb idea now. everyone realizes it was copied, to a point, but improved greatly. people seem to think Home itself is a game, its not, its just a virtual lobby basically, just to clear that up. Sims is a game, Home is a lobby to get you to games and music and achievements.

Cmon. Shelly, cmon... If you take another companies concept and form it into what you think the company should of did its still a form of copying. Saying that Saints row didnt copy GTA would be a lie. In the same aspect saying PShome didnt would be too. Even though Home is lightyears ahead the same applies.

Everyhing I typed appeared verbatim. Great. Super. You just copied me. Now take the general idea of what I'm saying and formulate your own interpretation. Do they look anything alike? No, you were merely influenced by my words. You see, what Sony did is NOT copying. Its called "influence". They were influenced by the idea of having an avatar that allows for interacivity with the community and EXPANDED ON IT while adding its own flavour. This is influence.

Good post. It maby has basic similarity like doom and fear:D but other than that its completely different.
And it ist like mii or nintendy invented the whole idea, just like nintendogs sheep trying to get the credits....

I think home is a great addition to the PS3. But to deny that Sony got influence from Mii's, especially when a Sony rep says so, is ignorant. Please... :?

Yup, Sony is taking ideas and making them their own (Improving, polishing, adding on to). Good work Sony.

No, i'm sorry. An Avatar is a representation of a person portrayed in a game. This was done as far back as the ATARI.

I think the issue is the UNIVERSAL avatar. In other words, an avatar that can exist outside of a game, or rather, can exist in multiple games and are drawn from the same source. That's something PS Home still doesn't (and shouldn't) do with its avatars.
