It's the first gen haven't gave a shit.
Like, in the Sega/Nintendo days, when a new console game, new games, it made you giddy.
Now, wondering what business practices they will try to pull. While seeing the same old shit.
The visuals aren't a big step up. No game changer titles, or really, games.
Ah, but you can enjoy a price increase and smelly GaaS. And coming soon, in game ads.
Zzz.
Disappointed. They aren't bad but aren't great games. I think what's actually disappointing to me though is the severe lack of a PS5 road map. We have almost no information on what's coming after Horizon FW and GoW2.
As a comparison, while PS4's first year was also a bit slow as all first years are... there were a dozen games I knew were coming that I was excited for. The only games I have excitement for so far is Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge and Instinction.... games that will also be on other platforms.
So far Sony has been great, Ratchet and Clank, Demons Souls both great games and Returnal is ok just don’t have time to do the Runs they really messed up the save system, and am looking for FF7 Remake and Ghost of Tsushima DLC, still waiting CDP to fix Cyber Punk, on Nintendos side don’t really care for them GameCube was my last Nintendo Console, on MS side i am more worried that they will ruin few game studios, at E3 they didn’t show HellBlade 2 gameplay or Halo they should have something ready just bad signs of bad management, Pleased with Sony the other 2 need to do better
There's almost nothing to show so far. I'm afraid that every gen is just going to keep getting worse due to longer dev times.
It has not fully started yet.

Deathloop is a game changer. Atomic heart will be too.
@ghosts4ever: Sadly, welI doubt Deathloop will be anything other than stellar, it has "flop" written all over it in bold caps.

Its actually most marketable arkane game so it will definitely sell more than dishonored and prey however it is game changer mean that it is most innovative title to come out in years.
until then STALKER 2 will definitely game changer.

Saddens me that I agree with this. I still give a shit, but it's sucks fending off feral companies trying to rape your wallet. It's also come to a point where games are designed with such business practices in mind, making the games worse than they could be anyway, so even if you do bend over to the companies, you still play worse games than in the past. Yay, AAA gaming.
I wouldn't say disappointed so much as underwhelmed. Console upgrade cycles moved from leading to a veritable tectonic shift in graphic capabilities to being more like a graphics card upgrade, and these days not even a huge one. Since I grew out of the point where I'm buying games for the numbers the people who make them tell you in their sales pitch (pixels, polygons, shaders, etc) these new consoles are beyond underwhelming. The console upgrades basically amount to better textures and, better shadows, and a better framerate - and to put it bluntly, none of it matches up to what PC's can do. It really never does though. If technical perform is your primary concern, the same is true this gen that is true every gen - you're wasting time if you are not playing on a PC.

Couldn't of said it better myself. I hate what gaming has become I miss the old days when gaming wasn't filled with such greedy Wall Street sloths.
Haven't given a shit for two gens running, played nothing new this gen. Last gen played a handful of games, getting too old I think.
I haven't really bought much from it. Really hard to keep track of what gens the games I play are from since a lot of it is on PC. But my gaming has been just as enjoyable lately as in other recent years. Nintendo has given me some memorable "this gen" stuff too

What is really disappointing for most of this gen is that both Sony/MS still support last-gen consoles. While I don't have a problem with it but if you have games still in development, they should be all current-gen games by now, not cross-gen and what's the point of me purchasing a new console if all they gonna do is cross-gen?

Yeah unfortunately I have to agree. I wish I could get excited again like I did with N64 games all through to about a few years ago. But for the last year and a half, I've been pretty bored and bummed with the crap that is trending now with always-online garbage and microtransactions. I know Covid happened, but holy shit, it feels like there is nothing coming out nowadays.
Honestly, as others have said, for the most part I think Indies are sorta the saving grace of video games at the moment. There seems to be more variety and heart and soul put into those games than the AAA games that companies know will make them money because there are so many idiots out there willing to spend so much on not only the games but the season passes, battle passes, microtransactions, and whatever else.

Yeah, the last launch day consoles I bought that gave that excitement and made me giddy was the Dreamcast and the Dreamcast 2.. erm, I mean OG Xbox. lol :P
The most appealing thing about either console to me would be playing older games with enhancements - in most cases I can play the game on PC with better results ... but there are few a games that I don't want to start over in ... mainly Nioh 2. And since I'm a cheapskate I probably wouldn't own any recently released titles anyway.
Few things on the radar for the rest of the year ( Forza, Psychonauts, Shadow Warrior)
I think smaller devs are going to need step up even more ... b/c as a few people mentioned the bigger companies suck.

That's just not realistic.
It's more disappointing that Sony and MS chose to release such poor consoles the previous gen.
I'm in no rush for a new console. Gonna rock my launch ps4 as far as I can and focus on switch and steam deck when it launches.
I'll probably jump in on a "next gen" console when the slim/revisions come out in a couple years.
Yeah I think I agree with most of this. Though I don't think I want to get back into the consoles again, I think I will keep playing on my old systems and my PC here. Still have an i7 and the Nvidia 1080 GTX which I know are not the best but like I said before, all that seems to be coming out now are more always-online stuff from the AAA scene. Not nearly as many solo games (like Elden Ring) as there used to be. So honestly, I think I'll be fine for a few more years yet.
And if this trend continues to swallow up the video game market, added to that the ridiculous pricing of upgrading a PC now, then I'll be pretty content to stay with this 4-year-old PC forever...though I will still be pretty sad seeing how much potential these new games could've had (graphics and gameplay) if they just allowed for more single-player content.
I don't have any next-gen systems yet so I can't say for certain , so on the outside looking in
I usually wait a year after launch because of console defects and the more games to be released later, but this is the first gen where I don't really see anything down the pipeline that makes me justify a new console. Remakes and sequels aren't something I get as excited for as new gameplay experiences, and so far this gen is mostly that. Nothing new or extraordinary to make me bite. The new IPs coming out either don't have any gameplay to verify it's something new (Avowed, Starfield), I can play on PC without the need for a new console (Deathloop), or just not something that wows me enough to justify a purchase (returnal).
man its amazing time, never before have indies been so dominant and they're pumping out so many quality titles like never before. Heck, I think a solid GOTY contender last year was an indie title called hades on the switch/pc. One of my top 5 games is also another indie called subnautica. On top of that MS has put out gamepass, and sonys games are quality as usual. Nintendo is nintendo but valve is going to release the deck. Its a great time to be a gamer. Probably the best ever.
@wandering_halls: I'd be disappointed, if covid wasn't a thing.
Tbh kinda tired of it turning into this get out of jail free card for like basically everything.

I really dont get why we always need to know games so far out. We know GOW, GT7 are both 2022 games and we still dont have a release date for Horizon forbidden west meaning it could be pushed back to next year maybe. Either way we know 2 big exclusive games for next year and 1 of them could be like late 2022 maybe. Do we really need to know like what we might get in 2023? Thats still almost a year and a half away. Now if we get to like middle 2022 and we have know idea of any 2023 games than yeah that would start to be a issue. Also spiderman 2 while not announced could very well be a 2023 game.
